We are 15 minutes from Smithville lake boat ramp.
We are limiting the 40 acres of timber to five groups of campers to provide privacy and seclusion for all. Topside is The Barn and The Hickory Forest RV/tent sites which have water and RV power hookups available. The lower level has three other tent camp sites available.

Under no circumstances should visitors trespass over to any of the neighboring properties. We have had multiple campers trespassing across the fence to the neighbors property. Neighbors are nice people but because of the multiple incidents and damage done to fences and their property, they did notify me that they will prosecute. Thank you for respecting this policy.

1 night at Wild Rest Sanctuary
I recently stayed at Wild Rest Sanctuary upon entering the property I felt like it was transported into another world as a entered the forested road that provided a sense of wunderlust anticipating what was around the next curve. It felt like I was driving backwards in time into nature. I imagined Hansel and Gretel following the trail of bread Crumbs through the forest. Upon arriving at the meadow and first setting eyes on the amenities, I imagined a medieval camp prepared for a king seeing the majestic tents and yurt. Some of the highlights that I experienced during my stay were watching the stars at night smelling the floral scent wafting on the heavy summer air. It felt like I was living in poetry. Other highlights were the well-appointed tents prepared with all amenities needed bed, and bedding, storage, lighting fans. I especially loved how user-friendly the booking website was, as well as all of the items that you could choose from, such as kits for making s'mores and optional Wi-Fi, although that was the last thing I wanted as I was enjoying my escape from civilization. The shower facilities were excellent, especially for an off-the-grid sanctuary. The host Christina was so accommodating and inviting. You could definitely see her passion for her vision of this sanctuary and it showed in her desire to provide everything needed to each person's individual desires. She has that unique magnetic personality that can't help but leave you smiling.

Our family really enjoyed the visit. My girls are elementary age and it was a lot of fun to see the ducks from the school bus. They run up a ramp and jump into a pool! Super cute. Chickens, a pig, and gorgeous land all around. Lots of yard games like jenga, horse shoe, sand pit with digging tools. The owners are super neat people, very interesting to learn about the land, the history, and all the projects about! Lots to do, but also, time to sit and be still in the calm remote part of Kansas. We didn't leave their property other than a walmart trip-just 20 minutes away!

Had we known there was such a place as the Geist Farm, we would never have wasted time camping at state parks or campgrounds. This place is as close to nature as you can ever find, without the nightly sounds of loud strangers around a campfire 20 yards away, slamming car doors in the middle of the night, car alarms at midnight, or sitting around an early morning campfire with dozens of other similar campfires in close proximity. There’s just one campsite here. It’s serene. It’s beautiful. They have mowed walking trails through the woods, have a well stocked pond of catfish (catch & release), a campfire area, plenty of room to set up your tarp shelter and tents, and a bathroom and shower not too far away. It’s as close to the perfect campsite as you can ever get. Most importantly, the Geists are kind consummate professionals. They make the perfect camping experience easy. Give their camping home-away-from-home a try. You will not regret it.

I fell in love the minute we arrived, not only was the VW bus even cooler than the photos, it was parked next to a pasture with cows! Being a farm girl I couldn’t wait to go swimming in the pond and explore the property. I appreciated Jacques the dog keeping me company by being my swimming and walking companion. My daughter liked the comforts of the hippie bus (AC, electricity, lights, etc). Bill and Nancy were very welcoming, I can’t wait to go back!

The farm is such a welcoming spot, and we felt very taken care of while tent camping. The outdoor shower and the outhouse have both been fashioned to give you total privacy, which is extra nice when you're living outside for a bit. My kids loved going down to the creek and the pond to hang out, and the pond felt amazing during the heat wave. This was our first camp of the summer and I'm so glad we tried this one out, definitely going into our rotation of places to stay!

We had such a wonderful time tent camping on this land! It was so so beautiful, easy to navigate, and wonderful spots for fishing and swimming. We did the 7 mile float trip and had a wonderful day out on the water. Overall 10/10 experience, we will definitely be coming back as well as recommending this place to all of our friends.

Weekend Trip to Fun Family Farm - Overview
This place had everything. Ducks, chickens, two turkeys one cute little pig, and three friendly dogs. There was a playground with a trampoline and a huge sandbox for my granddaughter. We didn’t check out the pond, but spent the day down at the creek. Just the nicest people.
Would love to go back with more grandkids😃

We had a great experience at Bigfoote! Our kids enjoyed playing the games they have set up, and the bathhouse/bathrooms were nice and clean!
The primitive sites are behind the rv sites and have a lot of privacy.

Perfectly placed on a trip to Denver - the 8 hour drive from here minimized some of the flattest and windiest parts of that haul.
I camped on the lawn and was more than comfortable. Had a relaxing sleep listening to cows and foxes. Host was friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive. We also made a new best friend in Jacques, the big friendly dog. The outdoor shower has hot water and is reasonably private.

"This place feels like a fantasy book. I'm serious." ... "It's magical." (my sixteen year old daughter). Last minute decision to camp out was great! The area is definitely only accessible via 4X4 after all the rain we've had. There were paths mowed and I was able to find a spot to camp with my hammock on the back of the bronco. I will come back but may wait until after the first freeze to avoid the bugs! Beautiful bird watching (Indigo Buntings everywhere!) and heard the owls calling to each other all night!

Overview
About
Explorers Lewis and Clark passed through the area now known as Lewis and Clark State Park on their 1804 expedition, noting the geese on the waters of an oxbow lake on the Missouri River. Today’s travelers will still find abundant wildlife. Grab your binoculars and watch for eagles, egrets, and more. If watching the skies isn’t your thing, you can hit the waters. The 365-acre Sugar Lake offers boating and fishing. An onsite campground is a perfect place to park your RV or to pitch a tent. When you’re ready for the city life, venture into Kansas City, which is less than an hour away.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for RVs: Lewis and Clark Campground’s pull-through sites offer electric hookups and level pads.
- Best for tent campers: Lewis and Clark Campground’s basic sites are located on the edge of the campground and do not have electric hookups.
- Best for families: Sites 32, 33, 41, and 42 in Lewis and Clark Campground are closest to the playground.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Due to flooding of the Missouri River, the park may experience campground closures and limitations. Check the website for updates.
- The Lewis and Clark Campground is open throughout the year, with reservations available April 15 through October 31.
- Reservations open 12 months in advance at 7am CST. and can be made online or over the phone.
- For weekend reservations, the park has a two-night minimum (either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday).
- Non-reservable, walk-up campsites may also be available. Call the park number for details.
When to go
Thanks to the fishing and boating opportunities on Sugar Lake, summer is the most active time at this park, but even then, you are likely to encounter a peaceful landscape. The weather may reach the 90s and above on hot summer days, while moderate temperatures can be enjoyed in fall and spring. While camping is available year round, winter sometimes includes below-freezing temperatures and bouts of snow and ice.
Know before you go
- The park is recovering from major flooding in 2019, with facility and campground repairs and improvement ongoing.
- Day use of the park is often available, even when campsites and other facilities are closed.
- If the campground is not open at Lewis and Clark State Park, Weston Bend State Park is 15 miles to the south.
- While water is not available at individual campsites, water spigots are located near campground facilities. During the off-season, water is only available at a single frost-free spigot.
- Highlights include the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Plaza, which details the history of the 1804 Voyage of Discovery. Connect to the Gosling Lake Trail for a short nature hike.
