1 night at Brooks Lake, a Peace of Heaven

We had a short, but lovely stay at the lake. Fish were abundant, as were turtles, and a Great Blue Heron made an appearance. Bill and Laura are very warm and helpful.

Laura and Bill did an excellent job at making sure our needs were met. The grounds are on a small lake, it's very quiet and rustic. The bathrooms were clean and functional, the grouunds were clean. There were only a few other people booked that night, so we had our choice of spots and even moved a couple of times. Laura checked in on us a couple of times through the evening to make sure we had what we needed. It was my firs time camping in my Tesla, and this site was great for that. I live in Atlanta, so just wanted somewhere to get out of the city, take my dogs, and enjoy nature, and this hit the spot. Thanks Laura and Bill for a great stay!!

Absolutely beautiful hidden gem! The communication with the host was prompt, clear, and very thoughtful. The property is nestled in the woods with large clearings to walk around in. There are actually two ponds, both of which have manicured grass pathways around them. There is a creak to explore and the open areas were much larger than I expected - great open spaces surrounded by forest to walk around. There are multiple seating areas with chairs or a bench, two fire pits, a picnic table and a bistro table - - and that's just out and about on the property! There is also a large pole barn with lots of seating, power outlets, and extra shade if you want it. I caught numerous large blue gill easily! I saw four deer, two bunnies, three turtles, two very friendly ducks, and a blue heron. I know there is a house on the property somewhere - but I didn't see it or hear other people; the Hipcamp felt very private. Absolutely loved my stay there and am planning to go back!

Camping at James’s farm was great! James met me at the mailbox to show me around. There were options for amenities like power and water hookups or primitive camping down by the creek - I chose the latter. It was quiet and secluded, which was perfect for me.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. I received a tour of the campsite and was able to pick my spot. Bill moved the picnic table to the area I chose to camp at. The property was clean although I was told there was no hot water in the shower. But it was so hot outside the cool water was welcoming. The land and sites are beautiful. Especially the sun setting and rising off the lake.

We will definitely be back. The site was exactly as described we loved how peaceful and secluded it felt. The views of the lake were great! My husband enjoyed fishing and I enjoyed the kayaks. Our dogs enjoyed the lake and lots of area to explore. Having full hook ups and WiFi were perfect! He even provided firewood! We had a hot weekend so we didn’t build a fire but would like to come back when it’s a little cooler! Also if you walk to the point the sunset was amazing!

Roads need lots of work and low hanging branches aren’t good for big rigs. We managed to get our 42 ft with tow in but were very concerned about getting back out! No big problems, hit bottom a couple of times but managed to get through very tight gate at the exit without scratches on our rig. Lovely spot but obvious owner has lost interest. They mentioned it was for sale!!

Lizardsniffer is a working horse farm with a variety of rental cabins and RV slips. We DO allow tent camping. Each RV slip has water, septic, 50 amp service and Wifi. An Amenities Cabin is provided for use by all RV site guests. The cabin includes a full-sized washer/dryer, a full bathroom with bidet, and an oversized jacuzzi tub. Guests must sign-up for a 4-hour timeslot. The cabin is available for use between the hours of 8am-8pm. Many of our RV sites feature private fenced paddocks for people bringing their horses or dogs. Horse visitors require all current paperwork (Coggins, etc.). Dog visitors must be social and friendly and thus are allowed to explore the farm with their owners off-leash if desired. At Hard Labor Creek State Park, the only hard labor you're likely to do is swinging a golf club, flicking your wrist with a fishing pole, or working up a little sweat along miles of off-road biking trails or the easy to moderate trails that can be used by both hikers and horseback riders. Afterward, you can lay out on the lakeside beach or take a dip in the water. Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground has 51 campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs, in addition to 11 smaller sites suitable only for tents or pop-up trailers and 11 horse camping sites close to stalls.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to 13 months in advance.
The tent/pop-up sites are not available to reserve online, so you’ll have to call the park.
Sites are not available on a first-come, first-served basis. While last-minute availability is a possibility, you’ll still need to make a booking.

When to go

Summer is the most popular time to visit, when Atlanta residents flock here to cool off in the lake. It’s a good idea to make reservations as far in advance as possible during that period, especially if planning to arrive on a weekend. Hard Labor Creek State Park is known for its educational and outreach programming, so check the calendar to see what’s on before planning a visit.
