Hello Campers, We are a 125 acre property that has 36 holes of championship disc golf. The North Oconee River runs through our property as well as three ponds throughout. We have plenty of room to pitch your tents. It really depends on how far you would like to be from the bathhouse. We are 6 miles from Lake Lanier and the Chattahooce River, and a short drive to hiking/mountain biking trail heads. We have a wonderful bathhouse with restrooms, showers and laundry just a very short walk from our sites (maintained by the staff at the park). We're also pet-friendly and love our furry campers! Just add the pet fee for each pet in the extras section at check out or send us an email letting us know ahead of time and we will get that added. I purchased this property in 2016 from the estate of Robert Masters. Mr. Master's and his family lived on this property since 1957 in the small red brick house at the road, Green Shutters Cottage, an Airbnb/VRBO. He raised chickens and cattle. The cows are the reason this property looks the way it does with it's magnificent trees. I suspect this piece of property has had cattle on it for 100+ years. Mr. Masters worked at the Historic Habersham Mill down the road as did many of the locals. I have named the farm, Sole Farm. (Sole is Italian for Sun) The house on the hill, my home, is the Villa del Sole. I look forward to having you come and enjoy this beautiful piece of land I call home. Learn more about this land: COVID-19: None of the camp sites are even in sight of one another. The sights are large enough so that you and your fellow campers can social distance from one another. I certainly respect your wishes and will social distance while packing you into your site with the tractor.  You will pull into 495 Habersham Mill Rd, Green Shutter Cottage. There is a gravel drive that goes down behind Green Shutters Cottage. There is a Hip Camp sign pointing the way. I will pick you up there with the tractor to pack you in and I will pack you out as well. Vehicles are NOT allowed on the property. You WILL get stuck. Please be courteous and respect my time and let me know when you are going to arrive so that I can be available to assist you. A breathtaking view of the distant mountains greets you as you come on to the property as well as the majestic Villa del Sole, a Tuscan style villa on top of the hill, my home. The land drops away into rolling pastures dotted with ancient trees, some 300+!. The woodlands are filled with wildlife that surround the property where you are completely isolated from the world. There are two creeks that border each side of the property and join together and flow into Lake Habersham then into the Soque, the top trophy trout stream in the southeast. The water in these streams is pure. Please respect this and bring Earth friendly soap for washing dishes. I recommend Dr. Bonner's Pure castile soap. There is a creek by each camp site. The Woodland sites and the Meadow both have streams, fire pits, benches and latrines. I will pack you into and out of your site with the tractor. I do not allow vehicles on the property. You can walked to the sites if you like. I do welcome well behaved dogs. I have two that live here with me, Buster and Rufus. They will probably come pay a visit at some point.  Depending on where you want to camp there are three possible campsites to choose from: The Meadow, 2 to 24 campers and, The Woodland site, 2 to 8, The Head Waters, 2 to 6 campers.  The Head Waters site is down next to the creek and next to a meadow, very secluded, no latrine. The Meadow is best for larger groups of 8 or more. It is is a medium size meadow with flat ground suitable for spacing a number of tents out. There is a fire pit, grill/grate and three benches. It also has a creek and a latrine. The Woodland site is suitable for 2 to 8 campers but is a bit limited on places to pitch tents. It too has a fire pit, grill/grate, benches, and a latrine. It is by far the prettiest site. It's possible to sit in the creek in areas during hot weather(shallow water and COLD!. You are not completely disconnected from the world here(WIFI) but far enough away to feel isolated and private. In the bottoms, you are nestled in the woods and can see nothing around you but forest, not even the Villa and not the other campers in the meadow. You see no neighbors, houses, lights, etc. Stargazing from on top of the hill is not to be missed. I recommend Sky Watch app. Clarkesville is close by. Ingles is close by for forgotten supplies or a Starbucks fix. Yonah Cafe is great for breakfast and specialty coffees This is a small town, rural area, quiet and slow. There is plenty more to do if you just want Sole Farm camp as a base. Tallulah Gorge is 20 minutes to the north and hiking at Panther Creek.  Alpine Helen is a 20 minute drive Many good hiking opps are close by, waterfalls, thrifting. The Chattahoochee is good for canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There are several stables that offer trail rides close by. You are allowed to walk all over the property using the mown paths but please respect the other campers and my privacy. I will be respecting yours.

Hidden Gem! I almost dont want to review it..... for the simple fact that its almost one of those things you kinda want to keep to yourself but it really was a beauty! Very private, quiet, beautiful sunrise, river access ( a little steep if you have trouble with mobility ), Athens is a 20-30 min drive, cell service is spotty (Verizon). I would definitely go back over, and over, and over again!

Castleberry Bridge has become our go to spot for our annual camping trip, and it truly is a hidden gem! We spent amazing days swimming, tubing, fishing, relaxing by the fire, and just enjoying being together. The hosts are absolutely wonderful, friendly, accommodating, and always making sure everyone has what they need. Free firewood, daily trash pickup, and honestly some of the cleanest campsite bathrooms we’ve ever seen. It’s incredibly family friendly, and we especially love that the dogs can be off leash and enjoy the trip right along with us. 🐾 Our pups give it two paws up\! Another amazing trip in the books. We’ll definitely be back next year!

George & Gini's site was so nice for a small getaway + they are amazing hosts. They helped us out with some small accomodations with a friendly attitude + no issue. You can tell just how much love, pride, and work the 2 of them have put towards this place. George is so friendly & we chatted with him a bunch about local history, things to do, some shared interests, etc. Gini was also a doll when it came to questions we had & some technical stuff with our booking. The camp sites are a bit close to some other sites and the "road" through their land is more on the narrow side so I probably wouldnt recommend bringing/driving a pickup truck but our SUV had 0 issues navigating back + forth. There's a cute little butterfly farm about 5 min down the road that I totally recommend checking out. My only other suggestion would to definitely bring flashlights as once the sun goes down, it is a bit hard to see while walking. We will most certainly be back next time we camp in GA!! Thank you again so much to George + Gini :)

A slice of paradise! This was my second visit and I enjoyed it as much as the first time.. The view is picturesque and getting down to the river was easy. The water was cool and refreshing. My pup Obie swam and hopped from rock to rock. A flock of geese were resident on the river and loved watching them. Both sunrises and sunsets were spectacular! Such a beautiful property!

this site is amazing and exactly as advertised. we stayed 2 nights with our 3 boys (mini schnauzers) and enjoyed every second. it was too hot to be outside for too long but in the fall this would be even more ideal. great lake view, peaceful and away from all noise except nature. look forward to visiting again.

About

Right between Athens and Atlanta, Fort Yargo State Park is the ideal destination for urban dwellers looking for an escape into nature. Hikers and mountain bikers can tackle some of the 20 miles of trails that wind through the park, then cool off with a refreshing dip at a large swimming beach that lies on the 260-acre lake, also popular with anglers and boaters. Visitors can also challenge themselves on the park’s wooded disc golf course and visit the 18th-century fort for which it’s named. The Fort Yargo State Park Campground features 12 walk-in campsites and 40 RV and tent campsites, as well as a selection of yurts, cabins, and cottages.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Booking in advance is recommended and can be easily done online or by phone and up to 13 months in advance.
Go ahead and book if you see availability—reservations can be changed one time without penalty. Subsequent changes incur a change fee.
If you can’t reserve ahead of time, it’s worth checking in person for late cancellations.

When to go

Fort Yargo State Park is open year-round and is a great place to visit any time of year. Summers can get uncomfortably hot, but you can quickly cool off in the park’s large swimming area. Winters are typically mild to cool and still offer plenty of opportunities for hiking and biking. Spring and early summer are possibly the best times to enjoy the activities on offer while avoiding the highest temperatures and biggest crowds.

Know before you go

A ParkPass is required for all vehicles and is not included with campsite reservations. Overnight guests pay only one ParkPass fee for the duration of their stay.
Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash no longer than six feet and accompanied by the owner at all times. Pets are not allowed in buildings or swimming areas.
The half-mile Bird Berry Trail is paved with a birding area, nature signs, and gazebo, and is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
Drones are prohibited in all of Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites.
