We have a nice little RV pad on the back of our coastal home. Situated on a little bayou that opens out into Choctawhatchee Bay. Crab Island is only a 10 minute boat ride away. You would have access to our small dock and there is a neighborhood boat ramp less than one hundred feet away. This is a great place for kayaks, wave runners, and small boats. If you don't have a boat, we can set up any kind of trip you want. We are all licensed captains and own multiple Crab Island businesses. So we can set up charters for you on the following boats: Sailing trip on a restored 1963 Pearson Ensign. Can accommodate up to 6 people. This is a classic sailboat that is easy to sail and easy to learn to sail. A restored 1966 Boston Whaler that is perfect for couples looking for a sunset cruise, etc. Can accommodate up to 6 people but it perfect for 2 -4. We can go to Crab Island, look for dolphins or find our own private island beach. Waverunner tours. We can take you on a guided wave runner tour looking for dolphins and private beaches. You will drive one wave runner while our licensed captain guided you on another one. Insurance does not allow us to rent these out solo but there are many good vendors in the area to do that. Inshore flats skiff targeting redfish and trout on light spinning gear and fly rods. This boat is best fished with no more than 3 people. Rates: $150 per hour for less than 3 hours $500 for half day (4 hours) $600 for 6 hours The neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Fort Walton with large oaks and magnolias providing plenty of shade for bike riding and walking. Downtown Fort Walton with its shops and quaint restaurants is only a mile away. Didn't bring a bike, we have 2 you can use. During the summer, there are fireworks every Wednesday night that are viewable from this spot. The site comes with water/sewer and 30 Amp hookup. The sight can accommodate up to 43' for trailer and vehicle.

19. The Lazy River

5.8mi from Deer Lake State Park · 1 site · Lodging
Located on the Choctawhatchee river, The Lazy River home is 1 mile up river from the bay and located just off of the big river. You are able to access the best of both worlds here including Crab Island, the fresh water springs and the big river. Stay in the river and catch bass, bream and catfish or venture into the bay and catch redfish, trout and mullet. The home features a private concrete boat launch, dock, and boat lift in the brackish water canal behind the home for your boat. Enjoy accessing the home for your stay by water or land. Our favorite way to access is by boat- launching at the West Bay bridge in Panama City and running down the intracoastal waterway into the bay. When accessing our property by vehicle, be prepared to drive 17 miles off of highway 79 with a 4 mile portion of that being a dirt road. We can not guarantee the condition of the dirt road portion of your drive for your stay, however the dirt road is graded weekly. Enjoy the seclusion of this area while still being in close proximity to Panama City Beach and 30A. Pier Park in Panama City Beach is where you can find the nearest grocery stores, shopping and restaurants in a 35-40 min drive from the home. Once you are here, its likely you will want to stay and not leave though so bring plenty of good meals to cook and enjoy! The home features a private screened cookhouse with a wood burning grill, satellite TV and plenty of private parking for your vehicle and boat trailer.

The best camping in Deer Lake State Park, FL guide

Overview

About

If you're looking for an unforgettable outdoor experience, consider a Deer Lake State Park camping trip. Nestled within its boundaries is a coastal dune lake that shares the same name as the park itself. These lakes are a rare sight worldwide, with the United States boasting their presence solely along the Gulf Coast. As you explore the park, you'll be greeted by a stunning array of flora. Southern magnolias, golden asters, woody goldenrod, and scrub oaks paint a vibrant picture against the backdrop of the coastal dunes. But it's not just the common plants that make this place special. Rare species such as Gulf coast lupine, spoonflower, pitcher plants, and Curtiss' sandgrass thrive here, with the latter boasting one of the largest populations in Florida. It's a botanical wonderland waiting to be discovered. But it's not just the plants that will captivate you during your camping adventure. Deer Lake State Park is also a haven for wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for splashes of color from summer wildflowers, as well as the many species of resident and migratory birds and butterflies that call this place home. It's a symphony of nature, with each creature adding its own melody to the chorus. So, whether you're a seasoned camper or just starting your outdoor adventures, a Deer Lake State Park camping trip promises an experience like no other. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the coastal dunes, marvel at the rare plants that flourish here, and let the sights and sounds of nature enchant you. Your next camping adventure awaits in the heart of this natural paradise.

When to go

The best time to visit Deer Lake State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural flora is in full bloom. Summer offers warm beach days, though it can be quite hot. Winters are cooler and less crowded. Avoid hurricane season, from June to November, for safety reasons.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather and warning flag signs for safe swimming conditions before heading to the beach.
  • Remember, pets are welcome but must be leashed and are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk.
  • Accessible amenities are available, ensuring all visitors can enjoy the park's natural beauty.
  • Bring exact change for the honor box as the park requires a small entrance fee.
  • Plan your visit between 8am and sundown, as the park is open 365 days a year during these hours.
