IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall construction is complete. The area is being prepared to have additional river sites added sometime in 2026 depending on vegetation growth. The entire Beach (R3 & R4) will be closed to Campers starting October 1. This is due to hunting season starting. Campsites in the main campground will be still available, but guests are not allowed on the lower 40. Contact Cal or check our Facebook page and web site for more information. The campground and rental house will open about May 15, each year. The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet above the river. We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites, a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all.
The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In late summer of 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away.
Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. This is NOT a party campground, our goal is to let you connect with nature.

Imagine looking out the Lisney Grand Log Cabin window and realizing that the landscape has remained virtually unchanged for over 10,000 years! While most of the State was covered and scraped by glaciers of the last Ice Age, this small section of the State was not. Hence, its geology remained intact. Locally this region is known as the “Driftless Area” and encompasses both the Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Park (8,600 acres) and the Wildcat State Park (3,600 acres).In this area, archeologist have discovered a total of 596 sites dating between 10,000 to 12,000 years ago inhabited by ancient people. This includes ancient campsites, farming areas, linear and conical mounds, once-occupied rock shelters and many petroglyphs. And if that’s not enough to wake-up to, then enjoy the fresh air, clean water, the breath-taking views and the daily visits of wild turkey and deer.This Amish built cabin is 1500 sq.ft. and is minutes from hiking, biking, paddling the Kickapoo River, food and beverages as well as world-class trout fishing, snowmobile and horse trails. Lisney Grand is a two story, two bedroom one bath cabin with an additional large sleeping loft. Open floor plan includes a full kitchen, dining area and living space with a cathedral ceiling. The cabin and grounds are filled with original art from artists across the United States (some available for purchase). Enjoy the beautiful sunsets and amazing views of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Park (8,600 acres) while swinging on the porch swing located on the porch that wraps around 3 sides of the cabin. We loved staying at the Spring Cabin at Echo Valley Farm. The space was so welcoming and everyone there was so helpful and kind. We will definitely be coming back to explore nearby trails and parks, though I can say sitting by the fire on New Years was just as enjoyable. This place is really an all-season occasion with a beautiful, like-minded community.

We had a great time in the Straw Clay Cabin! It was clean, cozy and comfortable. We really enjoyed this unique cabin, including the woodland animals that are built in to the walls, and also having some information available in the cabin about how it was constructed. We also enjoyed hiking around property and seeing the chickens and sheep wandering around! Overall a great stay, we'd be happy to come back.

Echo Valley Farm is absolutely beautiful, and Maggie's Cabin was just right for what we were looking for! Dena was wonderful - kind and helpful and willing to accommodate a scheduling mistake on my part. The cabin itself was cozy and warm, and the farm was beautiful - rolling hills, grazing sheep, and forests in the distance. Echo Valley Farm is just right for a trip to get away from the demands of daily life and slow down a bit!

The yurt itself was a beautifully set up — spacious, warm, and very accommodating. Even with the cool October evenings, the heated yurt kept us toasty, and gathering around for games of dominoes while being warm and cozy. If you’re looking for something memorable and a little different, I recommend this yurt. The blend of nature, comfort, and family connection made it one of our favorite getaways. We’ll be back next fall!

We had an incredible time staying in the red barn! Loved interacting with the turkeys and cows and being so close to them was a real treat. My husband and I stayed in Maggie’s place, a cosy cabin with a screen porch. The setting was beautiful and quiet. We enjoyed walking up the hill for the view and watching the chickens, cats and sheep.
There are no cooking accommodations, you can bring a camp stove for the picnic table.

9 nights at Echo Valley Farm
We loved our stay at Echo Valley Farm. From the Milky Way right above Maggie's to the wondrous valley floor (OMG, the [nearby] trout streams! could the earth be more beautiful?? but I digress.). The sky is dark enough that even in full or half moonlight the stars are brilliant on clear nights (evenings and early mornings). Also, magical fog. Also, watching chickens and sheep every morning (roosters too :-) from front porch or picnic table. The beautiful, healthy ash tree in the front yard that can be seen from inside the cabin will soon be all gold. The wood burning stove kept the cabin more than cozy when it was near freezing. The beds were comfortable, as were the abundant linens. Wood for indoor heat is provided (firepit wood for sale), a small coffee pot, electric tea kettle, a selection of teas and some coffee. Note, there is not a swing at Maggie's any longer, which I saw in one of the pictures. That was the single disappointment, I had a whole fantasy in my head about sitting on the swing with the chickens & sheep in the yard. It was Echo Valley's 1st lesson for me, a very mild lesson in attachment. Emphasis on mild. So instead, I sat on the screened porch, sometimes while petting one of the cats & delighted in watching them from there. The scones were [chef's kiss]. Echo Valley Farm was a great home base from which to launch numerous and varied adventures to the wonderlands all about the region, and even better to return to. And I will return.

Christine and her place were wonderful! So friendly and accommodating and the barn is absolutely adorable! So many sweet details and incredibly clean and comfortable! Shared the back bedroom with my kiddo with no problems and a grandparent stayed in the smaller bedroom and we were all very comfortable! The animals were wonderful and the location and property are absolutely beautiful! The cleanest and nicest port-a-potty I have ever seen! Highly recommend and we just tried some of Christine's Christmas pickles and they are delicious!

2 nights at Fisher Cat Creek Forest Retreat
Fisher Cat Creek was a great spot to relax and disconnect. Thank you to David and Veronica for the hospitality, the cabin was very comfortable and cozy. Everything was very clean and ready to go (having a little dog that sticks his little nose on everything we appreciate how tidy everything was). We had a couple of rainy nights but there was plenty of dry firewood to cook on the stove inside. We spent a lot of time reading on the couch with the sound of the rain and Archie had a great time while we explored the surrounding woods, definitely recommend going on a hike!!
David and Veronica have thought of everything we could have needed, kitchen has literally all the utensils, beds were clean and comfy, plenty of firewood and drinking water, T.P., BBQ setup, lots of books and boardgames, plus the long dog tie out leash already set up was perfect! It was so comfortable we could have stayed way longer. What a cool place, very thoughtfully designed and built! Can’t wait to come back some other time!

Weekend Trip to Echo Valley Farm
The orchard cabin was so comfy! I slept great out there, and was greeted in the morning by the rooster and his ladies. On the second morning the sheep came by a the kitty!
So quiet at night and a sky full of stars!

You'll need to buy a vehicle pass for your car in addition to the camping fee. I think it's $8 for WI resident and $11/day out of state. They have firewood for sale at the campground for $3/bundle. Clean bathroom, no showers, vault toilet only. It's very quiet and a great campground. We stayed at site #24 and it was very spacious and right on the river.
