Private and protected forest woodlands, trails, wildlife, ponds, wildflowers, old growth timber and views. Unspoiled nature at its best! We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close.
Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods.
Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall.
Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake.
Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you.
The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary.
The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge.
Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. Grandpa had a dream of building cabins for his granddaughters. Ruby is the first grandchild and this cabin was built for her. Jay and Tamara (Ruby’s grandparents) bought this acreage in 1998 and are excited to share their special place with other people who love the outdoors while being with family and friends.This is a rustic, off the grid, cabin experience that you will never forget. Almost 200 acres of forest are available to explore. Winter, our second granddaughter is expecting grandpa to get her cabin finished soon.Cabin with loft can sleep 6. Think of it as camping with walls and extras thrown in. Air beds provided, bring your own sleeping bags. Outhouse provided. Additional tents and people are allowed for an additional 15.00 per tent/2 people. Additional RV’s are allowed for 15.00 per RV. Area for tents and RV’s is large grassy wooded area. Great for large gatherings of friends or family who enjoy camping. Fire pit and bar-b-que provided, pavilion for shelter at fire pit area is in the process of construction. Mountain bike/hiking trails run throughout property as well as National forest trails within a few miles. North Fork River swimming 10 minutes away. Golf course across Westoak Rd. Sit on the porch and enjoy the solitude only minutes from Oakridge. Grocery store, etc... all available in Oakridge. Beautiful, safe and secluded. Elk, deer, and other forest critters live here too. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Great place. I used the cabin to stay warm in the cold November time. Amazing host - explained and had an excellent map to catch all the waterfalls and mile markers. The site is great - extremely close to bathrooms and shower which are super warm inside and water. Small little cabin for the night but has loads of extras. Microwave and little fridge as needed.

I have no notes - Umquilla's Last Resort checked all my boxes at every step: my dog and I loved it. Our cute mini-cabin had energy-efficient heat, microwave, and fridge allowing more food diversity than I usually get on my annual Thanksgiving trip. The bed was comfortable and as a single traveler with a dog: the bunk bed gave us a lot of extra room to stretch out.
The showers, restrooms, and dish washing area were spotless and warm. The staff was happy, kind, and showed visible support for LGTBQIA+ travelers.
My dog loved that we could hike in the national forest without getting in the car which conveniently could charge via the EV charging station in the campgrounds. I mostly explored between the campsite and I-5 due to there being a charger at the campground and dozens of options in Roseberg (or on my trip in via I-5 South a good high-speed charger in Sutherlin.)
Self-service paid internet access (24h, 72h, and 5 day options) provided suitable bandwidth for unexpected video calls and web browsing.
It was all perfect, worked well, easy to spot from the road, and in a beautiful region with lots of activities. A true oasis for travelers just an hour east of I-5.

Weekend Trip to Umpqua's Last Resort
I absolutely loved staying here in my deluxe cabin! It was the perfect personal retreat I needed, the cabin was super clean and cozy, nice fluffy bath towels and the Wolfgang Puck coffee pods were a treat! The park was quiet and at night I could hear the river from my cabin, there is a nice trail down to the river and I was able to spend time by the river in the evening. The location is so close to many waterfalls! Toby and Dustin are super nice hosts! The shared restrooms were clean and the showers hot! I loved the small trails to wander on next to the park. I cant wait to return as this will be my place to stay this coming year, thank you for providing such a nice place to have a get away from the world! My only request would be to allow for a late check out if needed but I ended up leaving early to see more waterfalls!

Weekend Trip to Crater Lake Private Woodlands
Such an amazingly gorgeous spot! We felt like we were in a movie. So glad we went in the fall. So many beautiful colors. Russel, the ranch manager was very accommodating and professional. I can’t wait to go back. We did have some rain while we were there and since you have to remove your shoes before entering the cabin, it would be nice to put a shoe tray on the floor for our shoes because the awning on the front door is too small to protect our shoes from rain if left outside. My daughter also thinks some battery or solar string lights inside the cabin would be a nice touch. But all in all it was fabulous. We slept so good. We did a 6 mile hike to the gorge and It was just so incredibly peaceful and beautiful. Thank you.

Stayed in the A-frame cabin and were so grateful for the sweet getaway. Loved being surrounded by nature while having all the creature comforts ready for us- couple of lanterns, bedding, a propane bbq, very clean porta-potty just a short walk away. The site was easy to find and walk around the pond was lovely. We even had great cell service (Verizon and AT&T)! Day trip to Crater Lake was stunning! Would definitely recommend!

Ruby’s Cabin felt like such a treasure to me. My family loved the open spaces and scenery, plus the cabin and the outdoor cooking space. We got to explore the surrounding area on foot through the trails and my girls rode their bikes around the cabin. Jay came to greet us and let us know if we needed anything, to just ask. He was so friendly. I really can’t wait to go back.

Julie and Clay were great hosts! The cabin was so cute. Snug but very homey. The property was spacious and will definitely be coming back with more of our friends. The porta-potty even flushed. Rustic glamping at its best! A bit off the beaten path but interestingly tucked into a small town, the bunkhouse is thoughtfully stocked with essentials. We loved getting the camping vibe (no indoor plumbing) but not having to haul all the extra gear! Cowboy bunkhouse 2 has enough sleeping room for 3 average sized people- thankfully our kids are small enough to both fit on the sofa bed. Wonderful stay at Kristie’s!

Their property was so beautiful and peaceful.
Our family had an amazing time! They had an incredible cabin, camp kitchen had everything you could think of. The bathroom was so cute and wonderful to have. So much space for all our kids and dogs to run around. The showers were so fun and we enjoyed every night sitting around the fire pit that was available.
Jay has really thought of everything, he was so kind and hospitable. The site was so clean and beautiful, such attention to detail. Our whole family kept saying how amazing this place was with every new amenity we found!

Jay’s Place at Ruby’s Cabin was just what we needed. Quiet, private, peaceful and totally off the grid. Everything you might possibly need was available and Jay was able to suggest some nice fishing spots as well as which flies the fish were hitting. We really enjoyed our stay.

This spot was great, especially considering that we went on the "severe heat warning" weekend. The shade from the trees kept the site at a nice mid 80s, and it got cool at night down into the 60s. Only downside was the website and Google made it seem like the reservoir would be full of water and RIGHT THERE for us to get into... the reservoir was reallllllly dried up and we had to drive to get anywhere close to a swimmable spot.
Besides that: clean campground, plenty of space, great fire pit with built-in cooking spot, quiet and peaceful, bathrooms clean - would come back and stay here again for sure!

Loud families in Broken Bowl (single mom riding a scooter with 5 teens blasting music into the night, and then those teens running through all the campsites)
Squatters in the reservation only site (Puma). Could be July 4th weekend. Campsite manager said the locals hate the rule changes and will stand their ground and refuse to follow the rules. Family (older male, playing dumb female, 2 teenage sons, one was aggressive). 3 cars parked on the site. Unsure if they carried weapons. Be careful.

Decent campground, but pretty close to the highway and the road noise is pretty intense, especially the big trucks going by. Very small Hackleman creek nearby. OK campground if you need a place to stop, but wouldn't recommend making a a special trip.

One of four clearest lakes in the world! This bright blue alpine lake is so crystal clear you can see to the bottom even in the deepest parts. Lack of vegetation means no fish or murky bottoms. Just perfect swimming and kayaking conditions. Lots of butterflies and blue dragonflies and hardly anyone on the lake. If you can, paddle across the lake to camp.

Make sure to visit the hot springs at the resort as they are AMAING! The community there is quite homey and inviting. I will make it a yearly visit now as it was indeed needed to refresh, relax, and renew my spirit.

This is my favorite campsite in all of Oregon. I've visited North Waldo Lake nearly every summer since I was born. It's great for hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, stargazing, and just reading and napping on the beach. Trails are beautiful and the water is so clear you can see the bottom from the middle of the lake. It can be cold at night and there are mosquitos usually until late July, but other than that it is flawless. It's Oregon's best kept secret:)

We visited on a Monday night in early April which turned out to be the right recipe for a deserted campground. Not only was it free but it was just us and a few day-time fishermen.
Our campsite came equipped with a peninsula that extended out into the lake and was perfect for both kids and fishermen. The campsite itself is located back in the trees on an old concrete pad. It's also a great spot for large gatherings (spots for 5+ rvs) but would make for open and exposed quarters with strangers if the campsite is full.
Expect moderate noise from traffic on the nearby highway, especially for the sites on the east side of the campground. The tent-only walk-in sites also looked nice.

Right down the road is Smith Reservoir, if your into fishing at all then stop by this place and throw the pole in!
