We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin.
When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there.

Just a 15-minute scenic drive from Franklin in North Carolina, easily accessible off Hwy 64, our campground offers a chance to enjoy nature without being far away from the public amenities of a small but well-equipped town.
A few features about our property:
- Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways.
- Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be given at check in.
- Bath House: The restored bathhouse is split into boys’ and girls’ sides. Each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat.
- Community Pavilion: The Pavilion is a large 40x30 ft. open sided structure overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink, counter space, couches, and table with benches.
- Pack Room: Where the adventure begins! A cozy hub where all guests get local information, view maps, and grab some local seasonal groceries. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave.
- Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. There is limited Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available.
- Charging: Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. First come, first served.

Heartstone is located on a modestly pitched, terraced slope where a divided mountain stream, the tumbling Squally Creek rejoins itself! The sunlight filters down through the forest canopy providing a warm, inviting glow!! There is a 9'-6" x 10' wooden tent platform, and if needed a new, larger tent pad!
Islandsite is located at the top of the island where the tumbling Squally Creek divides! Access is provided by the 40' long fallen tree bridge! Islandsite is unique, private, and very romantic!
Diamondstone, Heartstone, and Islandsite feature a picnic table, charcoal grille, and comfort facility all within a short walk from your private parking! Enjoy evenings at the new fire pit area with benches overlooking the fire pit and creek!
Explore the island on the 400' island trail, or go downstream to a nice pool for dipping!

Brian has created something so incredibly special here! We stayed at Diamondstone and he has added many special touches- the electric candles, little propane stove, wooden benches and handrails....
He is also INCREDIBLY responsive! We could not figure out how to work the padlock to get into the cabin (note: the numbers must be lined up in the GREEN section of the lock) but he answered right away even though it was 10pm (second note: there is no cell service there so you have to go a ways to find it).
The cabin is not insulated and the stove does not put out much heat, so if you're coming in winter make sure you have good cold weather gear. My son set up his tent outside and as we both brought winter gear we had an wonderful, peaceful time reconnecting with nature and each other.
Thank you Brian for being a wonderful host and creating such a special place.

Richie was a great host and the shack was cute. The land is just uphill of the host's main house. You don't have to worry about the shared property because he respects your privacy. He said hello to us when we arrived and then we saw him again just before we checked out. It rained each night we stayed here and the shack kept us warm and dry.

I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this spot is. The stream, the trees, the quiet. I have camped in almost every state, and this is easily one of my favorite sites. The road in a bit bumpy, but doable. I easily made the trek in a civic. The road is also great for taking a scenic walk. The covered porch was perfect for a rainy afternoon, and the heater was a welcome addition on cool autumn evenings. Close to the stunning Joyce Kilmer Wilderness & Nantahala National Forest. I hope to come back again!

We loved our stay at the Magical Resorts Groundskeeper Cabin! Mary truly thought of every detail when designing and decorating each space. The beautiful stained glass, cozy bedding, fire torches, and even the dishes made us feel like we were actually in Hagrid’s cabin!
Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the cabin is simply beautiful and so thoughtfully done. We have two younger children who absolutely loved it—they spent hours on the swings and the play area by the water and enjoyed feeding and petting the animals.
One evening we visited downtown Haynesville and had a great meal at a local restaurant. We probably could have spent more time exploring the town, but we just loved relaxing in nature.
Mary was so kind and quick to respond to all of my messages. We will definitely be back!

We had an unforgettable anniversary weekend at the Rowdy Bear cabin! It was the perfect setting to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with each other. The cabin had everything we needed and nothing we didn’t (except the heater, which we didn’t have to turn on once due the unseasonably warm weather)!
The million dollar view, peaceful privacy, brilliant night sky, and simple setup make this a special place we want to come back to again and again. The super comfortable bed, amazing hot shower, and easy solar-powered electricity were welcome luxuries, turning us backpacking campers into converted glampers overnight! Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven with us!

I can’t say enough good things about my stay! The farm setting was absolutely serene — nestled along a river and within striking distance of the mountains. Every detail was so thoughtfully done, from the well-kept amenities to the little touches that made it feel both comfortable and connected to nature.
What really stood out was the hospitality. The hosts were genuinely kind and welcoming, and they went out of their way to help me plan things to do in the area — from scenic spots to local hidden gems; they went out of their way to make my stay extra special.
Between the peaceful surroundings, beautiful scenery, and top-notch amenities, this place was the perfect balance of comfort and adventure. I left feeling refreshed, grounded, and already dreaming of coming back. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful escape in nature!

Such a great experience! The cottages were super cute, the property was peaceful, and we loved the animals and the little fairy village—it added so much charm. The hammock area was a really fun and relaxing touch.
The host was kind, thoughtful, and very understanding when we had to leave earlier than planned. Everything was clean and cozy, and we truly enjoyed our time there.
If I could make a small suggestion, it would be to add a few towel hooks for after showers and maybe clean the AC units or consider fans for better airflow. Other than that, everything was perfect—we’d happily stay again!

I really enjoyed my stay here! The campground is quiet, peaceful, and has a unique charm that makes it feel special. The rental was well stocked. Also, the owner was friendly and welcoming, which added to the great experience.
The only thing I’d mention is that the air conditioning unit could use some cleaning or maybe an upgrade, and having a ceiling fan or two would really help with air circulation. Other than that, everything was great — I’d definitely stay here again!

Lake Sinclair Recreation Area
We stayed at Lake Sinclair Recreation Area Campground for two nights in April and had a great experience. The campground was quiet, well-maintained, and felt relaxed without being crowded. One of the biggest highlights was the electric sites being only $15, which is an excellent value for a lakeside campground.
The swimming area was a lot of fun and a nice bonus, especially for warmer afternoons. The campground grounds were clean and well cared for, including the campsites and common areas, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
Overall, this is a great budget-friendly campground with solid amenities, easy lake access, and a peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for affordable camping on Lake Sinclair.

We had a group of 4 adults and 2 dogs in Site 1: well maintained grounds with ample water spigot access, trails around the lake with a swimming area, and quiet at night. The showers seem to be permanently "out of service" but that wasn't an issue for us.

Just pitched a day camp for a few hours. very nice dispersed camping. You’ll need to cross a small stream with your vehicle to get to the parking lot. The bottom of the stream is groomed for vehicle crossings, but you probably need a few extra inches of ground clearance I E SUV are similar.

Great campground, the dirt road to it is fairly well maintained so most vehicles will not have a problem driving there. It fills up fast on weekends when the weather is nice and there's no reservations so get there early if you want a spot.

Great campground but the best sites are taken up by the locals and held for their friends and relatives all season long. This campground needs to go on the reservation system to ensure fair access for all.

Awesome spot to camp. Located off the blueridge. Great ride from the city. Plenty of camping facilities. Good trout fishing but just Georgia stockers. Not very big trout but fun. Located close to rock and cooper creek with a has station down the road.

Sweet, decently-kept car camping site. There are sites with and without hookups available (sites without hookups are tent-only). I like to go in autumn, when the camp is lightly populated and cooler.
One correction/clarification: As a US Forest Service campground, pets are allowed (on leashes) most everywhere here; however, they're not allowed on the beach area, which is clearly marked.

The hikes to the different waterfalls are totally worth it. Show up early - it's a small campground and fills up on holiday weekends.

A hidden gem, The Pocket Campground is adjacent to Johns Mountain and located on a tributary of John's Creek that winds around the camping area. Heavily wooded sites offer more privacy than most developed camping areas.
The campsite has 26 spots with short paved aprons and gravel tent pads. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and lantern post. Water is available throughout the site from communal spigots, but there are no RV hookups. No Electricity.
Bathrooms are flush toilets with sinks and were clean and stocked when we visited. The ranger in charge was nice and pointed out a few nearby hikes and landmarks for us.
Less than 2 miles away is Keown Falls, a beautiful and easy 2-mile hike great for kids!

Lake Conasauga is popular, and often the overflow campground area is a necessity if you show up later than 8 pm on Friday. While it's rustic, and not as pretty as the main camping area, it's got great night views of the stars, and much better suited for groups.

stopped here in 2016 for a quick 1-nighter on the way to NE Tennessee. Great hidden camping area; deep in mosquitos - bring bug spray.

there is a long dirt/gravel road leading to the campgrounds that has barely enough room for 2 cars to pass each other. otherwise this place is wonderful--fire pit, picnic tables, and a beautiful waterfall!
