We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin.
When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there.

- Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways.
- Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be given at check in.
- Bath House: The restored bathhouse is split into boys’ and girls’ sides. Each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat.
- Community Pavilion: The Pavilion is a large 40x30 ft. open sided structure overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink, counter space, couches, and table with benches.
- Pack Room: Where the adventure begins! A cozy hub where all guests get local information, view maps, and grab some local seasonal groceries. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave.
- Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. There is limited Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available.
- Charging: Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. First come, first served.

This was our second time at Brian’s land, first we stayed at heartstone and this time at diamondstone! Both sites are extremely well maintained and you can feel the care that goes into both. The cabin itself was so cozy and the covered porch was a nice addition anytime it would rain. Another highlight is the small swimming hole in the creek! It feels surreal to take a midday splash in the mountain stream. Thank you so much Brian for sharing this extremely special piece of the forest! Can’t wait to be back again :)

The view was spectacular. The pictures don’t give it justice. The cabin I was in had a map of the area, Ga and Tn. It was just the right size for my dogs and I and the bed was very comfortable. I believe it was a tin roof and it rained that night. The sound was beautiful to me, not so good to my dog. The people were extra friendly. I felt very secure. I received a flash flood warning and was very concerned but heard the cart driving by ever so often. I had my dogs with me and I believe the camp dog came and took my dog on a walk😂😂. It was the cutest thing. I purchased so many mosquito items and never had to use them. I had to leave earlier than I wanted because my dog was so stressed and he is an elder dog. One last thing I don’t know what the heck I was thinking but driving up the mountain was extra scary for me. I was panicked about having to drive down. Guess what? There is a service for that. I wish I had known before coming. It’s called Stat Ride. I absolutely loved everything about this resort.

We loved the cabin! It's very remote and not a cabin like "glamping" it's a cabin tent but with a shelter (what we wanted). Although there is 2 other tent sites that Brian has, there was one other camper there but we didn't even know that the were there! (with the creek sound, it's very loud but peaceful) 100% would recommend if you're into relaxing, a peaceful setting, looking at the stars or just getting away!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest
An absolute hidden gem, even better than the photos!
This was our second visit in just six weeks, and we're already planning a third. The pictures don't do it justice. It truly feels like a secluded nature retreat, and the best part is having zero cell service for a complete digital detox.
Do not let the directions scare you. They sound intense, but we found the cabin easily with no issues.
A few pro tips for future guests. Bring a bottle of cat litter for the bathroom. We added a little before and after use, and it completely eliminated odors while making packing out easy. Bug spray is non-negotiable, so bring extra. Pack extra pillows for the bed. The bed platform is perfectly level, but you will appreciate being able to elevate your head more. We also brought a small solar powered fan that cost around thirty dollars and placed it in front of a screened window. It worked like a mini AC unit and was a game changer for airflow at night. Also make sure to have headlamps or a light source as it gets pitch dark at night. It’s perfect for star gazing.
Host Brian stopped by daily, so do not be surprised if you see a big white camper van or a dirt bike pull up. He stays for about five minutes to check in and lets you know he keeps his camper up the road if you need anything.
If you are going with a group, I highly recommend booking all three spots since you can easily walk back and forth between sites. If you are solo, there is still plenty of privacy.

My buddy and I had a great weekend getaway to relax at the Woodsman Cabin at Starr Mountain Retreat on 23 acres in the Cherokee National Forest near Reliance, Tennessee. This place is the real deal. It is quiet, private, and surrounded by woods with that perfect peaceful vibe.
The cabin is spotless, well laid out, and seriously comfortable. The queen bed in the main bedroom and the twin beds up in the loft were both very comfortable. They have literally thought of everything. There is a full kitchen, gas fireplace, grill, and all the little details that make it easy. You could literally show up with just a suitcase and feel like you’re checking into a hotel room. No scrambling for basics.
They even had an abundance of dry firewood ready, and they thought of the little things like dry kindling in a bucket ready for use. The fire pit served us well for some great evenings chilling out.
The owners were responsive, and it really shows in how well the place is set up. We felt that the advertisements for this location actually undersell just how excellent it is. This is a first-class spot in the woods. Already talking about coming back. Highly recommend it for any guys looking for a solid relaxing getaway. Thanks Nola and Brian! 🙌

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest
We had a great weekend at Diamondstone! From the cabin to the creek we were able to relax, unwind, and even adventure a little. Brian was kind and a pleasure to talk to, be sure to greet him if you get the chance as he had lots to share with us! The cabin and toilet were stocked with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and plenty of liners/ bags! Our dog, Vivi had a blast and had lots of space to sniff around. Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest
My boyfriend and I had such a great time at Brian's place! The little shelter he's built is perfect. I loved every little detail - the cool bed platform, the electric heater, the well functioning windows and blinds, THE PORCH 🤌🏼, the branches used for the railings, charcoal grill, picnic table and fire pit, and like 15 steps from the shelter to the river. Just perfect. It got down into the 30's one night we were there and our little place stayed plenty warm. Brian is incredibly kind and wonderful to talk to as well. If you like camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming, and/or paddle boarding, pretty sure you'll love this spot and the area. Would highly recommend a truck or suv for the drive in as there's a lot of gravel and some pretty large bumps that a lower car may struggle with.
