Desert Oasis was a perfect start to our adventure. The grounds were clean, Adam came out to check on us and answer some questions we had. Even though it is right off the freeway, the traffic noise was not overwhelming. They had a great rec area and plenty to do with young children.

We had a lovely stay at Gary and Daren’s! The views were lovely, and there were lots of little nature walks around the area which were peaceful and quaint. The facilities were great! Hot showers, and a nice little common room with cooking facilities, water, towels, dishes, coffee, etc. Gary was very welcoming and accommodating. There’s lots of attention to detail and love invested in this space! We would definitely stay here again!

I can’t say enough good things about our experience at sacred Springs. But before I get to the property, let me tell you about the hosts. We had first planned on going to the property a month ago and had some serious car troubles that made that journey impossible. I’m pretty cynical, so typically anywhere that I’ve paid some amount of money to put a deposit down and circumstances have come up that impacted our ability to get somewhere ,not the place we were going, I usually just consider the deposit given as a loss. Never to be see again. “ thanks for playing, but sorry we have to keep your money because we are uncaring un-empathetic, greedy bastards.” That was not even remotely close to the experience we had BEFORE even making it there. We reached out to inform Gary and Darrell that we would be unable to make it, sadly but would be looking forward to coming in the future. These remarkable gentlemen who were so kind throughout the entire communication process before we even booked, continued this kindness and added empathy and sympathy for our situation. Still emailing and talking to us while we were in the midst of a horrific experience with our vehicle, not near our home and dealing with the costs and every other negative you could have. These two were like a ray of sunshine. Their gracious and sincere words in the emails and their hospitality and generosity is like nothing I’ve seen in years… decades even. They refunded us and offered a complimentary stay.

There was something special about the GCO. Basics first: Adam was super friendly and a great host; the property is quiet and clean. There is some road noise, but I ran a fan for white noise and used ear plugs and got great sleep. The extras: the lodge is a great, eclectically decorated spot with sofas, a TV, pool table, among other cool items (nice space to have, especially when you're traveling in a van). The views from Desert View are unobstructed and amazing. Don't miss the show when the sun sets! It literally changes minute to minute. The night skies are amazing as well. I can see why this is hollowed ground in the Native American culture. Don't hesitate to stay here; I'll be back for sure when I'm back in that region.

I stayed in one of the glamping wagons and loved it. The location near Sedona was great and the wagon itself was so cute and campy. It honestly felt like Oregon Trail in real life. It was perfect for two people and felt private, clean, and comfortable. The locked private bathroom for our wagon was such a nice surprise. The RV resort amenities were great too, especially the hot tub and pool after a long day of hiking. I highly recommend it.

Camping here in Coconino County north of Ash Fork and Seligman, down 10 miles of isolated dirt road - this is far enough away to feel remote and surrounded by nothing but ancient trees. Yet there are many cool destinations not far away: Once you get out to the highway, Williams is 30 minutes away so you can plan you visit to the Grand Canyon or ride the Grand Canyon Railway. Another 30 minutes in that direction to reach Flagstaff with its skiing, nightlife, observatory, and eclectic culture. Continue exploring and you can visit the red rocks of Sedona, the natural caves of Peach Springs, and the crystal-blue waterfalls at Havasupai. While you're camping, enjoy the peace and quiet surrounded by meadows and ancient Juniper trees. Bring your fifth wheel, camper, toyhauler, or even your tent. Bring as many friends with you as you'd like - there's plenty of space. Sit around a campfire of sweet-smelling Juniper wood while you roast marshmallows. Depending on the time of year, hunting may be in season, with Deer and Elk. Remember that hunting is permitted if you have a valid hunting license, on the adjacent mile-wide parcel of State Trust land sprawling out to the west of the property. Roads are accessible most of the year with just about any kind of vehicle - as long as the weather is nice. So be sure the check the weather report or almanac before planning your visit. If the weather is dry, just about any kind of car, truck or trailer can make it down the 10-miles of dirt road to get to the property. If rain is on the calendar, you're going to need 4-wheel-drive and clearance. The dirt roads develop deep mud patches that can mire most cars or trailers. There will also be snow in the wintertime - so plan accordingly for mud, ice, and rough roads. But most of the year is easy as long as it's dry!

What's even better is the property backs onto the National Forest, for unlimited enjoyment of nature. In the evening crack open a book, or start playing a game with your besties to close out a long day. The property is completely off the grid, making it very appealing to those travelers and adventurers who want to create a minimal carbon footprint on their vacation. The kitchen sink has a hand pump that draws water from under the sink from a 10 gallon water jug. You can refill the jug as needed from a hand pump located in the back yard. There is solar powered lighting and a USB phone charger station. There is no electrical power available. Cell service is available in the area depending on your carrier. The outdoor composting toilet is super clean with little or no odor. The cabin is located at 8200' in the San Francisco Peaks in the pines and aspens. Snowshoe or cross country ski, go sledding or snowmobiling, or just good old fashioned relaxation will make the time fly by. We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed. Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. Jacob Lake Recreation Area and Campground

I've camped here twice and the facilities are very clean but the campsites are tight together. The camp hosts are so sweet and amazing! The gas station and diner across the way are nice if you're missing a few small items or for coffee but it's expensive and not well stocked. (ten camping // 5+ nights total // June 2016, May 2019)

Ten X Campground

I was on a solo road trip and found my way to the Grand Canyon. I don't know what I was thinking...that I could just roll in and find a tent spot in the park without booking a year in advance...so I was extremely happy to find this campsite within a short drive to GCNP. It was not that crowded, as in I was able to arrive mid-afternoon, in the middle of the summer, and find a nice shady spot no problem. There are lots of trees and the campsites are a pretty good distance apart. I would highly recommend this spot because it is so close to GCNP, but you don't have to deal with booking so far in advance or the crowds. I will be returning next summer for sure!

Jacob Lake Recreation Area and Campground

Great place to camp in the summer as nights are cool due to high elevation. The Bathrooms were very clean, and we felt the campsites were fairly average when it came to spacing (not to close together, but then again not very private). Big trucks & cars drive along the road by the campsite all night/day so it can be noisy-try to get a spot on the opposite side of the entrance to avoid this. About an 1hr. away from the North Rim & is a pretty, scenic drive.

Dogtown Lake Campground

An older campground with small sites, spaced close together. However the fishing in this Lake is the main draw, unless you come out with a bunch of people who want to party, I would choose another campground & just go there to fish....

White Horse Lake Campground

We camped here in June, Site 53, which we Thought we were Lucky to get as it is Right on the lake. Turns out that the wind comes Roaring Dow the lake, right through that site, which is quite exposed! It as So Windy we couldn't sit outside at all- Very Frustrating!! The Campground itself is Extremely Beautiful & quiet, with sites widely spaced but mostly back among the pines & spruces. The lake itself is really nice, but as for fishing, we didn't see ANY FISH CAUGHT in the 5 days we were there? Must be it hadn't been stocked lately. Otherwise a Very Nice & Isolated camp ground...

Jacob Lake Recreation Area and Campground

Jacob Lake CG had clean facilities and a very attentive host. Don't expect much privacy though... The sites are pretty scrunched together and it's located right next to a loud, busy road. There's a gas station and diner within walking distance if that's your thing (diner food was meh...). All in all it was a perfectly fine place to spend the night, but didn't offer much else aside from its close proximity to the Grand Canyon North Rim. (tent camping // one night // october)

Demotte Campground

Pleasant Surprise DeMotte was! Plenty of elbow room btw sites. Nice views. Deer foraging in the nearby woods. Walking distance to General Store and Kaibab Lodge Dining Room. No showers, though. Must explore the Forest Service back roads. Well maintained, and go to places you'd never think about, even the Grand Canyon, without going into the Nat'l Park. Great Find!
