George was an extremely friendly and generous host. The campsite was stocked with everything we needed, and George and his wife were lovely and very helpful. We came up from the city for the weekend for a small group camping trip for my birthday, and it was the perfect place to celebrate. We had such a great time and would absolutely come back!

This is a cute place in a nice part of the state. The owners are super friendly and made this really great lean-to. We stayed here while there was a lot of rain and our tent stayed completely dry!

Everything is covered: Not kidding, there is a giant wooden Lean-to. And a giant canvas roof over the picnic table.
Very comfortable place to camp, plenty of firewood, right near the Taconic, it’s got it all!

This is the best deal in town. It was equally as comfortable as a hotel but you’re out in a beautiful landscape. There are privacy screens, so while the owner’s home is in sight, it still feels like you have your own space. George was really welcoming and we chatted about their lovely garden. Next time, we’d like to stay a bit longer, as this was just an overnight before the Fall Foliage Half Marathon. But nevertheless we woke up feeling rested for the run and really enjoyed our brief stay.

We stayed for one night and didn't spend much time at the site since we were visiting our son in college nearby. But it was just what we needed! A quiet, wooded spot with a covered picnic table AND dry lean-to just the right size for our tent (made for very comfortable sleeping). George and his wife were very friendly and gave us directions to the nearby farmer's market. It's a wonderful area to visit and this campsite was a very pleasant alternative to staying in a hotel.

Great site for a laid back weekend! Host was so kind and helpful, directions were clear, site was immaculate and includes a covered picnic table/benches, fire pit with chairs, outhouse and lean-to where games, potable water and more chairs are located. My 3P tent fit in the lean-to which I opted to set up in due to the sudden severe weather and not a drop of rain made its way inside. Plenty of places to set tents up if you'd rather sleep outside. Traffic noise was minimal and privacy screens are set up around the site. Rhinebeck is close by for trails or dining out. I was mostly here to get some quiet time with a stack of books while recovering from a back injury, but there's plenty to do on and off site as well. I'll definitely be back.

This property was excellent! George was a very gracious host and already had some basic amenities on the propety when we arrived.
Plenty of trees for hammocks, a spacious fire pit, and very peaceful at night. It's a great escape.

George was a lovely host providing prompt answers to all queries, and even letting us use an air pump he had, when we realized that we’d forgotten ours. The site was pretty much as advertised in the images. The lean to is clean, large enough to house a 3-person tent, with some additional space in front of the tent, and there is a covering over the table area that really keeps out the rain (we had thunderstorms while we were there). Water, toilet paper, and a garbage can with a bag were all provided. I did feel that the site was a little closer to the house and a little less private than I thought it would be, but overall, we had two nice nights here!

The site is near the host’s house, but there’s enough distance and privacy screens to make it private. Host George was super nice and gave clear instructions quickly. It’s a very organized, quiet, and peaceful campsite. I’ll definitely come back.

Nice clean space. The site had fire pit, lean-to and far enough space to pitch in tent on ground. The host was very kind, and easy to communicate with and helped us with fire starter. There was fresh water to drink, and provided us with basic necessities. Definitely recommend.

We loved this camp site so much, there was firewood waiting for us as well as water which was greatly appreciated. George was super kind and was helpful anytime we needed something! The fire pit was spacious and had plenty of chairs. Overall this is a perfect spot for a big group of Friends!

This was such an amazing Hipcamp! The site is set up very nicely with a table, fire ring and outhouse. George and his spouse were beyond kind and welcoming, even letting us pick some fresh produce in their garden! It’s right near the Taconic so a great jumping off point for some areas like Red Hook or Rhinebeck. We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn’t hesitate to book again if we’re in the area!

This is the second time we have stayed at George’s property. The lean to is great so that you don’t need to worry about a little rain.
George is responsive and helpful setting up the property with a picnic table, a fire pit, extra water.
We would highly recommend, be aware that the family’s home is close to the site and a privacy screen has been set up.

We enjoyed an extended Labor Day weekend at the Rustic Shelter Lean-To camping site very much. Although we didn't set up the tent in the lean to, it was very nice to have it and the daisy lights lining it were a really nice touch. We also appreciated the deepness of the fire pit, the shelter over the picnic table, and the outhouse.
Those looking for a private site will enjoy the privacy screens placed around the front and side of the campsite. It really gave personal space, and the dark green color blended into the environment, too. As a result, campers have their own space, although the site is within view of the house.
There is a creek, and I imagine this, too, could add to the ambience of the woods after a rain. As we were there during a warm spell in early September, we fell asleep to the sound of crickets at night.
As someone who solo camps from time to time, I can definitely recommend the site for those who are going it alone. The surrounding area offers chances for hiking and birding if the weather permits. I would stay here again, either with others or alone.

I loved getting away to George and Julin's camp area. The hosts were amazing, having provided everything I needed to make the stay excellent. From big, big bundles of wood, to a 5 gal water dispenser, to a tarp for the firewood when it began to rain...it was all there and ready before I even needed to ask. They even shared some of their garden's bounty, which i put to good use for dinner and breakfast.
The campsite is part of their home's property, so you are near the house and people, but the way they've set it up, you feel like you are on your own little parcel of land, including a clever screen in the trees to give the spot more privacy. But if you're going for a secluded, all-by-yourself vibe, this might not be it. That said, I'd come back again in a heartbeat.
The lean-to was great for setting up my tent without the rainfly, but there were plenty of spaces on the ground for a good tent setup. And the site had a covered picnic table, which was great for the occasional mid-afternoon storm.
I'll definitely keep this on my short list of places to go for some easy-going hipcamping!
