We are excited to share our little A-frame cabin in the woods! The cabin is quite rustic ( and quite cute). Think of it like glamping -- outhouse, wood burning stove, dirt roads, and beautiful trees and mountains included.
** To keep the cabin affordable, all guests are responsible for cleaning up the cabin at the end of the stay and making it ready for the next guest. There are no cleaners coming in after you. **
The cabin is a 432 square foot A-frame in a small mountain community, which is surrounded by the Jemez National Forest. There are a few places to hike right from the front door, and many, many trailheads within a 20 minute drive.
Fenton Lake is a short drive away, and the San Antonio Hot Springs is a 2.5 mile hike, bike, or ski away right out the front door for the confident adventurer.
Located 1.5 hours from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, a few miles off of NM-4 between the town of Jemez Springs and the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
No outdoor fires in the fire pit are permitted at this time. As of April 10th, 2026 water is on and running, potable water is available.

We have a screened in gazebo with a propane fireplace, a gas BBQ, outdoor shower, kayaks and hammocks for all to enjoy. Please do not be shy. Introduce yourself to the other campers. Share stories, make s’mores. Sing songs!!

This glamp zone occupies only 1.25 acres. Part of our mission in creating this space is to bring folks together. We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil.
Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave.

Drinking water filtration is through Waterdrop Reverse Osmosis Water Purification System G3P600: pre-RO carbon and particulate filter, then RO, then post-RO carbon filter, then UV sterilization, then remineralization… you get the safest water that “tastes” great! There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

This site requires a hike. No vehicles are permitted beyond the cattle gate.
Potable water is available upon request, but we prefer that you BYO. Since I have to hike it out there, you must let me know what you need at the time of your booking.
This is a primitive shelter. There is no running water nor electricity (aside from a solar light). The solar will charge your phone, so bring your cord!
It's just like camping but with walls and a roof over your head - and the benefit of having no other campers around. You might see an occasional hiker with their dog. If you have a dog, take note. This site is completely fenced in so that your fur baby can safely roam.
There is no heating or cooling. The desert can get cold at night. With enough notice, a portable propane heater can be provided for an additional charge.
Hipcampers are kindly asked to park just outside our gate and embark on a picturesque 3/4 mile hike back to the shelter. The flat hike offers scenic views and adds to the adventure of your stay. PLEASE clean up after your pup.

Your campsite is part of the Vida Bonita Pecos complex, which includes beautifully remodeled cabins and the remodeled Ponderosa Lodge. While you’ll have total privacy at your site, guests are welcome to explore designated areas of the property, our trout pond, and free roaming chickens and turkeys.
We don’t pack campers in. No RVs. No generators. Just you, the trees, and a sky full of stars.

With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and/or a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

THE SPACE
The bell tent has a comfortable queen bed with fresh linens, pillows and comforter. Basket inside has additional pillows and blankets.
As a high desert, water is a precious resource.
We've built a custom outdoor solar-heated shower with both hot and cold water that is extremely efficient. The water-system is filled daily and holds approximately six gallons (hot). There is a water-saving shower head with an on/off mechanism. "Navy showers" are a must: turn on to get wet, turn off to lather up and then rinse off. With this method, more than one person can shower. To take advantage of the solar gain, best used in the afternoon or evening.
We offer soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. There is a nice bench, lots of hooks to hang your towels/clothes, and a shower caddy. The area is private and secluded with solar lighting for nighttime use.
There is a separate sink (cold water only) and private enclosed toilet facility next to the shower area.
Guidebook in tent listing restaurants, bars, tap houses within 10 minutes drive and without need to go into Santa Fe.
Pack & Play available for an additional fee ($25 for stay) if infants/toddlers accompany the adult guests.

It was lovely to stay in the yurt. We were two adults, a teenager and a toddler and it was comfortable to have three beds to comfortably accommodate all (and also have a heater for cold nights). Lovely flat walks around the campground and into the forest. The host and care taker were friendly. Very convenient to have the well equipped kitchen with stove, oven, toaster oven, etc. when with children. Only 25 minutes away from convenient stores (like Trader Joe), yet camping in nature.

We had a great time camping with our pup in the Tecolote Cabin! Tecolote #1 had a range of bed options so we could choose our comfort level and amazing views to wake up to! We enjoyed hiking the trails around property, using the clean facilities including the small kitchen to make coffee in the morning and getting to meet the other guests. Ciana and Jonathan were so communicative and helpful and we felt very well taken care of! We look forward to staying in the future and maybe trying out one of the tents or other cabins!

This was such an amazing stay. Incredible location in Abiquiu right on the chama river. I stayed with my 3 small dogs and it was so pet friendly. Robin is an absolute gem and was so welcoming and helpful. The Little Dipper had everything I needed, bed was comfy, and I could cook whatever I needed. It even has a tape deck and provided tapes to listen to music which is so fun.
The property has kayaks you can borrow, easy access to the river, hammocks, and a wonderful gazebo that I'll miss incredibly. It was super easy to find and there are so many fun animals that you can visit on the property as well. I also have to shout out the awesome outdoor shower, such a cute space with lots of hot water and amenities.
10/10 stay, can't wait to come back.

Weekend Trip to Santa Fe Treehouse Camp & Wilderness Preserve
This was a great stay. Brought my 11 year old niece and felt safe. We paid for a star walk at night and called out to some owls and coyotes led by Mr. Bobcat. The stars were beautiful and the night was bright. Pegasus 3 was closer to kitchen and restrooms, didn’t mind the walk too much but if you have mobility issues be aware. The cabin is screened in so I made sure to bring layers and a sleeping bag for 45F evening.

Such a lovely spot, peaceful and quiet.
The view, nature all around and stars at night make for a lovely stay.
Recommend for animal lovers!
The road to property is very manageable with right vehicle.

Loved Jen’s cute cabin! We had a wonderful time, enjoyed the deck - pitched a tent there and slept well. Well stocked with kitchenware for cooking and dining. Appreciated the dog bed, our dog loved it. The outdoor picnic table was not sturdy enough to use - next time we come we hope to bring one :)

The yurt was clean and cozy and the composting toilet was well-maintained. The bed was comfortable. It can get quite windy on the mesa top and the stars are visible through the top of the yurt.

Gave me a perfect spot for my dog to stretch his legs and not have to bother with setting up tent after my 11hr journey from TX. Peaceful and away from people and everything noisy so was able to pass out successfully at like 6pm and slept a solid 11hr then waited patiently for the beautiful sunrise. Was greeted by a rather large coyote (bigger than my Pitt Bull) on the way out which startled all of us I think. But it was in the wee hours of morning so he was still hunting from the night before. My dog is a solid 86lbs so we’re both a pretty large obstacle for the lone coyote. However if you have a smaller dog and are timid at all you need to keep in mind that you are in the WILD out there so it’s up to you to figure it out if you encounter wilderness in your face like that.
