We are in the rural area between Hesperus, Durango, and Mancos - An easy drive to Durango and its thrift shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, Animas River and River Trail, and hiking and biking trails. Mancos is filled with art galleries, a wonderful bakery and cafe, beauty, and endless trails. Also within driving distance are Phil's World, Cortez, Sand Canyon, the beautiful La Plata Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake NIghthorse, and more! There are endless hiking and biking trails within driving distance of the property. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing abound and alpine skiing at Purgatory Ski Resort are popular winter activities. The views of the La Platas and Sleeping Ute are ever changing, awe inspiring, and constant from the deck of The Art Shack. On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings. Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived! Please remove your shoes before entering! There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning. We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax. No dogs are allowed - 2 people max - No smoking of lit substances inside The Art Shack. Please remove your shoes before entering The Art Shack!

Parking for 3 or 4 vehicles at rear of cabin. Wifi throughout. Satellite tv (direct tv) on 1st and 2nd floors. Lots of pine trees surrounding the cabin. Can hike to the top of the mountain and view Lake Vallecito (45 min hike) deer are usually plentiful and other wildlife as well.

1 night at Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast

Beautiful people, property, natural environment and vision! I enjoyed meeting Travis and Katie, both so passionate about what they're building at Mesa Verde Lavender Farm. The accommodations reminded me of my old VW camper van--although not quite as small--but definitely cozy and well-equipped. Best part was the lavender, soft mounds bursting with purple rays, attracting bees and spraying love everywhere. Go when temperatures are a bit cooler if you can. Intense summer heat was a tad uncomfortable. But I'd sure go again for an evening of contemplation with flowers and the canyon!

We had the best time in the wagon at the lavender farm! It was right before harvest so the lavender was beautiful and blooming. Katie & Travis are excellent hosts and the property was so peaceful! We would 100% recommend staying and visiting the farm!

Wonderful basic cabin spot by beautiful River. Full amenities available on the property. Upgraded bedding worked great and was super comfortable. We just wish we had more time to enjoy the beautiful spot.

Such a stunning place to stay. Beautiful setting. The lavender farm, the canyon, the amenities. Great hospitality. I felt like was a friend staying there rather than just a customer.

THIS is the glamping spot! It didn’t look like much when we drove up, but it held so much good energy, people, and fun! We stayed 2 nights in the Raven tipi. It was beyond expectations with a super comfy king bed, a power station for charging, flashlights, great decor & rugs, and a thoughtful piece of plastic for any areas that might get wet when it rains. It’s a real tipi so there is an hole at the top. We got down pours both days but things stayed dry since they provided what we needed in case of rain. The kitchen had everything you needed (plus) and was a great gathering spot to meet other explorers. They had the cleanest looking and smelling bathrooms I’ve ever seen in public and they are compost toilets! The coolest billiards room, ping pong table, fuse ball, painting supplies, games, and great people, especially the hosts Kent & Brandy. This is a ten out of five stars must-stay if you’re going to Mesa Verde or anywhere in the 4 corners area!

If you're looking for a truly special getaway, I can't recommend this one-of-a kind lavender farm highly enough. Staying in the charming private wagon, surrounded by fragrant lavender fields, feels wonderfully peaceful. The views are spectacular, overlooking a stunning canyon with Mesa Verde National Park visible on the horizon. Each morning begins with a delicious organic breakfast, lovingly prepared and served alfresco among the lavender - a memorable way to start the day. Every detail reflects the care and hospitality of the hosts (Katie & Travis) making this a relaxing and unforgettable retreat. It's the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy the beauty of southwest Colorado.

Weekend Trip to Junction West Durango

Perfect for the in-between camper that wants the rustic vibe without having to think about setting things up themselves. Booked their small cabin to myself and it was perfect for an overnight stop but I'd upgrade to a more comfortable cabin for an extended stay. Can fit 4 but it's a little cramped especially with gear. 2 pax with gear would be ideal. Beds come with mattresses but no bedding, definitely on the firm side so if you can bring some additional bedding to soften it up with a sleeping pad/sleeping bad, would be great. There's a fan and a heater to keep you comfortable. Bathrooms were very clean but the highlight was definitely being able to wake up and hear the sounds of the Durango Silverton steam train echoing faintly through the valley and walk down and have a cup of coffee on the riverbank. A little on the pricey side, for a cabin, but they do have all the amenities of civilization on site.

There were clear instructions on how to operate everything. It was a great mix of comfort, convenience, and camping. The deck was amazing, the aspens were perfect for hanging hammocks, and the kids loved the books. The whole family loved it.

We had a fantastic time at the Lavender Farm. Katie and family were warm and welcoming, the breakfasts were delicious, the wagon was well-outfitted, and the property is beautiful! And, though it is well off any large roads, we had a connection the whole way, so we had no problems finding it. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at the lavender farm! We stayed two nights here on our honeymoon roadtrip and so enjoyed the peace, quiet and tranquility of the farm. The caravan is adorable and so cozy and looking out over the lavender fields, smelling the sweet flowers in bloom and watching the sunset was magical. Katie and Travis have created a wonderful oasis that is worth stopping at for any traveler! We will happily return in the future. Also, make sure to start your mornings slowly with the complimentary breakfast at the farm - it’s worth it!

This is the kind of place I'd give extra stars. The kind of place that only comes around once in a while, and reminds you that simple delights and loving care are some of the most potent qualities. I booked it last minute on a whim. I had just come out of the trees and was missing them while driving over. However when I pulled up to the property I instantly softened. The lavender plants, the pond, the views and the host greeted me so warmly. The revamped wagon was SO lovely and homey, very well done. It was spacious, tidy, equipped with everything you need. The bed was very comfy. The outdoor shower nearby was very nice and roomy and the water was hot. I'm a builder so I admired the craftsmanship of all their buildings. Everyone I met was very welcoming and kind and interesting to talk to. I sat on the hammock by the pond and the vista deck and experienced some deeply peaceful moments. AND if that's not enough, they served a beautiful fresh breakfast and coffee on the patio in the morning and I was just in total heaven. Not only that but the price was very reasonable for all that magic.

The Lavender farm was just the medicine I needed on my cross country trip. From the moment I arrived I was greeted and felt like i was the most special guest they had. The photos on their website do not do justice to the beautiful environment they created. The stagecoach that I stayed in was super cool and had everything I needed. Breakfast was fantastic too. I had the opportunity to work the farm for several hours and had a great time. Travis, Katie, Annie and Clay are amazing hosts. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience. Looking forward to bringing my wife back next year.

Weekend Trip to Bright Star Campground

Stayed in Raven tipi two nights. Very clean, beds were comfortable. There was a power generator for charging phones, two fans, flashlights, a lamp, and a foot pump sink in the tipi. Showers and toilets were a little bit of a walk but I wouldn't want to sleep directly next to a pit toilet anyway. Kent was very responsive when we arrived and needed anything. The tipis do get warm as soon as the sun comes up (stayed in June), but also cool off quickly when the sun goes down. It was almost chilly sleeping at night but I prefer cooler temperatures for sleeping anyway. We all slept very well and enjoyed stargazing.

A most magical, beautiful farm with lovely humans and Chaco the sweetest boy dog. The wagon was well appointed- we could live there happily as it is roomy, practical and peaceful. And the breakfasts- every day was another wonderful meal made with care and consideration, better than any restaurant for sure, thanks to Annie and Clay. I look forward to visiting again soon, huge thanks to Alex and Katie for making every moment feel special.

Weekend Trip to Bright Star Campground

This is a magical place. We stayed in the Chasing Moon Tipi with two adults and a 10-year-old and it was more than perfect! Excellent amenities. Cool hosts, kid friendly, super clean. Warm showers. Artsy vibes. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need from an air fryer, to a stove, to a French press, to a kettle, to a toaster oven, to a microwave, to a coffee maker, filtered water and an ice machine for drinking. Honestly, if there's a complaint about this place, it's not the place that's the problem. We also met some super interesting and kind people. I would recommend this place to all of my friends.

The ruins were really cool, the road heading into them was terribly wash boarded so not good for a full-size truck, but SUVs and cars seem to handle it pretty well
