Surrounded by national forest and nestled in a small, peaceful neighborhood, you’ll be just minutes from scenic trails, historic mining roads, Boren Creek, and the La Plata River. The property features two historic, comfortable, and cozy cabin options so you can enjoy the outdoors without roughing it—the Large Blue Cabin is ideal for a family retreat, while the Little Red Cabin offers a perfect getaway for couples. Whether you’re hiking, trail running, fly fishing, four-wheeling, mountain biking, or simply unwinding in nature, the La Plata Mountains truly have something for everyone. Large Blue Cabin

Step back in time and unwind in a charming historic cabin in La Plata City, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Perfect for a whole family adventure, this inviting retreat comfortably sleeps up to seven and is great for kids to explore and enjoy the outdoors. Inside, you’ll find a cozy living room with a wood-burning fireplace, an indoor kitchen, solar power, compost toilet, and solar shower. Relax on the large deck, take in the peaceful scenery. Trails and old mining roads are just a short walk away; the cabin is the perfect basecamp for outdoor exploration. With its blend of rustic character and essential amenities, this cabin offers a warm, inviting retreat for both relaxation and adventure. There is a main bedroom that sleeps 4 people on a full size day bed, twin size trundle bed, and another twin size bed. In the living room there is a very comfortable American Leather pull out sofa that is a queen size and a sofa that when the back pillows are removed is a twin size bed. This makes for a cozy communal sleeping situation that sleeps 7 people. For bedding we provide a bottom sheet and pillows. Please bring your own sleeping bags and blankets. The kitchen has a ice box old refrigerator that we provide 2 ice blocks to keep your perishable food cold. There is a 2 burner camp stove for cooking. We provide propane for cook stove, drinking water, kitchen supplies (pots, pans, kettle, knives, cutting board, utensils, plates, bowels, mugs, glasses, etc.), and outdoor grill. The cabin has enough solar to power lights and a small tv. We have a collection of DVDs for rainy days. The living room is cozy with a wood burning stove. We provide wood. We also have a collection of games and books for game night and relaxing by the fire. The toilet is a compost toilet. Instructions for use can be found in the bathroom. We have a on demand water heater that can be used for showering and doing the dishes. Instructions on how to turn on the hot water will be included in the cabin guidebook. Due to the lack of cell service in the canyon we have a landline telephone. Nearby hikes and mining roads are only a 5 minute walk and suggested hikes are listed in the cabin guidebook. Or simply relax on our beautiful large deck.

Small Red Cabin

Escape to a peaceful mountain retreat in La Plata City. This charming small cabin offers a cozy bed, separate bedroom and dining area, an outdoor kitchen, and a composting toilet for a simple, eco-friendly stay. Just a short walk to beautiful trails and historic mining roads, it’s perfect for relaxation and exploration. Your mountain escape awaits. The small cabin has a separate bedroom and dinning room. The small bedroom has a full size murphy bed. The bed can be folded away to make room for yoga or stretching after a long hike. A bottom sheet and pillows are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag. The dining room has a table that can seat 4 people. Bring your own games! There is an outdoor kitchen under a pop-up canopy. A table and cook stove is provided. Please bring your own camp box with whatever else your cooking needs require. Drinking water will also be provided. There is a compost toilet. Directions for use will be provided in the cabin guide and bathroom. There are several trails and old mining roads for hiking within a 5 minute walk. Suggested trails are listed in the guide book. Please be respectful of the guests in the Large Blue Cabin next door. The campfire pit is for the use of the Large Blue Cabin guests. The small cabin is a wonderful glamping option for those who don't wish to sleep in a tent. We hope you enjoy your stay!
