Camp dark moon is awesome and Roan and Ivy are great hosts. Stayed in Casa Huevo this time and stayed very warm in freezing temps. A beautiful, quiet camp.

Absolutely wonderful campsite and environment, well curated, cared for, and maintained. The hosts, Ivy & Roan, were incredibly welcoming and kind—I would recommend their camp highly to anyone passing through, as well as to anyone wishing to spend a few days camping by the fire and nights under the stars!

Really great to see someone making charming tiny houses out of native materials with his own hands! Also, the area has a lot to offer, including great hiking in the nearby mountains (but reasonably high clearance vehicles necessary to get to the closest trail heads) and a comfortable and inexpensive train into both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Lastly, the hosts are really good people--community minded, kind hearted, thinking for themselves.

Just can't say enuff good things! A lovely, mystical, adorable break in the long drive thru New Mexico, boasting creative DIY solutions worth taking notes from, with some rad-tabulous hosts who live on site and make great campfire chat buddies. Def will be back to stay in the cozy, warm egg. Loooved taking a composty dump in a serene Naturescape and helping the planet along! And so happy to have made new friends!

Roan & Ivy are amazing human beings. They were so welcoming to us. The land is amazing. The view is serene. Our experience exceeded our expectations on every level. We'll definitely return when we're passing through New Mexico again.

Casa Huevo is a cozy delight. Gorgeous open New Mexico skies and kind, lovely hosts. It was chilly outside (early October), but inside the little dome I was more than comfortable. Loved the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to return!

The earth dome matches description and also exceeds in ways you have to experience yourself. Waking up to dead silence on this land was special- being more attuned to the work and projects made out of earth, and the sweeping mesa-like setting. The windows of casa huevo let you fall asleep to the moon and wake with the sun right there, and also catch nighttime breezes 🌙

You’ll never sleep better; but if you do stir at night, you’ll be greeted by every constellation in the cosmos! Arrive early enough to relax and take in the beauty of the expanse. Oh, and bring some stories and snacks to share with Roan and Ivy as the sun sets!

The land is well loved. You could feel it. Directions to get there were clear, and the quiet desert was exactly what we needed after a long day of driving. Wish we could have stayed longer. Loved hearing coyotes in the morning.

Roan’s Casa Huevo was super cute!! It stayed pretty warm in there too, despite it being 30s in there at night. We had a great chat with him. He’s such a nice guy and we’ll definitely be back if we’re back in the area! Thank you Roan!

This campground is not well reviewed on other sites, but I'd like to make the case. Beautiful tree cover, a really sweet group cook/picnic building, and several small camp sites. Now this is great for us as we have a small bus. I would not recommend pulling your gigantic Torque Fifth Wheeler up there, you won't be able to turn around. On the road in there are some terrific boondocking sites along Lobo Canyon Creek that are more forgiving of larger campers. Great location, free camp, vault toilets and picnic area - it's free, what's not to like? Check out our links to free campgrounds on fearlessbus dot com.

Our visit was middle of May 2018 for 3 days. Good spot to hunker down a few days. Good review by Layne here but there is NOT potable water at campsite. Terrific atmosphere, remote and lightly used campground, concrete picnic tables at each site, good toilets. 35 miles to groceries and gas. Disbursed camping sites available very nearby to use the very good toilets at the campground. Privacy at campground is low. Hiking from there is excellent with most the best hiking uphill directly above the campground up a forest road one mile then onto well maintained trails. Almost all trails gaining elevation so all downhill walking out. It's 10 degrees cooler on average than Socorro about 35 miles away. We loved the remote feeling.

Great little campground. Lots of random roads to explore on foot or 4-wheel drive. 5 Level sites, pit toilets, no fees. Mature Ponderosa pines abound. Spent 2 night March-2018, only saw 2 other campers come and go.

The sites here are situated along a curving road, with the outer sites a bit higher up than the interior ones. Some have more foliage cover than others, but generally the level of privacy is not high. However, the mountain is beautiful, full of pines and aspens. There are clean and well-maintained pit toilets and potable water. Each site has a picnic table and a flat, sandy tent pad; there's not enough flat space otherwise to pitch a tent. Overall, a pleasant place, but better as an overnight stop than a place to pause for a few days.

very big ground ! we arrived very late at night and just set up our tent in the field. there were a lot of other people, it feels like a "no law zone" haha. the sign says you have to make a reservation but we didn't, and didn't have any issue. best night sky ever, very good for stars seeing.
we left on the morning without exploring the area but it looks like you would have a blast spending a few days there, lot of outdoor activities.
