In the heart of the Mancos River Valley, you'll find yourself at the perfect basecamp for all that the area has to offer! It's just 15 minutes to the entrance gate at Mesa Verde National Park, designated in April of 2021 as the 100th Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association.
Take a scenic two mile drive to historic Downtown Mancos, to find art, dining, and fun. Historic Mancos, known for its thriving creative district, is the home of the The Raven House Gallery, The Artisans of Mancos Co-op, The Painted Turtle Gallery, Bombdiggity, and Kilgore American Indian Art.
Downtown Mancos is also home to dining options from local food trucks to fine dining. Fenceline Cidery and their delightful riverside cider garden host a variety of local food trucks on a rotating basis Family friendly eats are always on the menu at the Columbine Bar & Grill. Deco Dessert, offers something for your sweet tooth with homemade ice cream, artisan chocolates, and cakes. Our setting is cooler and greener than the surrounding area. Its a great place to relax in the shade of a cottonwood or apricot tree, while listening to the sound of a little waterfall nearby! If you still haven’t “gotten over the color green” (there’s a book by that title!), this is the place for you. Or, even if you love red rocks , a little green will refresh you while in camp.
Cottonwoods and historic fruit trees shade parts of each site, while dragonflies and birds often dart about among the rabbitbrush and sagebrush.
Each site can accommodate one vehicle, van, small RV, or truck-bed camper up to and including 18 feet in length.
Just north of Cortez, we are ideally located in the heart of the northern Four Corners region—only 15 minutes to Mesa Verde National Park, 20 minutes to Canyons of the Ancients, 10 minutes to Phil’s World, and 30 minutes to the mountains for hiking, biking, or fishing. Cortez and Dolores markets and restaurants are just 10 minutes away. Durango is an hour away, Telluride is 1½ hours, and Moab is 2 hours.
Being close to a county road (the closest edge of Apricot Starlight is 50 feet and is partially screened by sagebrush but the closest edge of Cottonwood Dream is 100 ft with more sagebrush screening, reflected in the price) allows quick and easy access to your site. There can be an occasional vehicle passing by during evening hours (usually none after 10 PM).
We are naturalists, so if you have questions about birds, dragonflies, butterflies, or fireflies (yes, fireflies!), such as the best places to see them besides your campsite, just ask us!
We also worked in the field of archaeology and can help you choose sites to visit—like Mesa Verde National Park or Canyons of the Ancients.
We encourage you to connect with the natural world as well as the ancient cultures of this region. Four Corners' Dragonfly Camp exists on the ancestral lands of the Puebloan and Ute peoples.
This is a dry site—please bring your own water and toilet. Showers are available at the Cortez Recreation Center, just 10 minutes away.

Returning to Bear Springs for a second year says it all. We stayed here again with our children and had another wonderful experience. The setting is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by mountains and nature, offering a peaceful sense of privacy while still being conveniently located near many of the area’s attractions and outdoor activities.
The campground feels safe, welcoming, and family-friendly. Our kids loved the outdoor space, and we appreciated having a place where we could unwind while still having easy access to everything we wanted to explore in and around Durango.
Michael is a wonderful host. He is attentive, responsive, and genuinely cares about his guests’ experience. Throughout our stay, he made sure everything was perfect and that we had everything we needed.
We’re grateful to have found this special spot and hope to make it an annual family tradition.

Views for days indeed! The spot is amazing. I’ll definitely be back! Just a note the hookup is 50amp I believe and my van takes 30 hookup plug so I would have needed to bring an adapter to plug in here. Luckily my solar setup worked and we didn’t need elec this trip. Just plan ahead for your plug in needs before you go (totally my fault in failing to notice what kind of plug was on the site).

Everything is as advertised: views forever, easy access to town and its offerings and hosts are super attentive and very nice.
The property sits on a very prominent knob and the road up to the top, even though well built and excellently maintained, is steep. If you or your tow rig are faint of heart, this spot is not for you. We had no issues getting up there and situated but we were prepared.
Also note that if your black/gray water dump spout is on the driver side you will need to turn around to use it (dump hole is on your passenger side as you approach the parking spot.
Absolutely worth it once you get up there and situated. And worth staying more than one night!

This site a private space in the sky, high above the north side of town while still being in town and convenient to all the things the Durango area has to offer.
After the hosts welcomed me with a friendly greeting, I was left to privacy, yet knowing they would be available through a quick contact if necessary.
Be prepared for a steep, winding, well-graded gravel drive to the site.
