For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Pitch your tent in an old apple grove just off a country road, behind a meadow filled with fireflies, wildflowers, fruit trees and wild medicines. Across the road, a 15-minute hike on a private trail leads you to Kahonrakén:ra, a majestic 120' sacred waterfall and hidden swimming cove. Spend the day exploring ancient clay beds and fossil-studded rocks in a 280-million-year-old gorge, then return to your site, make an fire and fall asleep under the stars. Your campsite features sunny and shaded areas, a picnic table, and a fire pit. It's completely private, with just one other site over 200 feet away accessed by a separate trail through the forest. You can park your vehicle in the meadow at the trailhead to your site and you will load in your gear via a short path approx. 10 yards. Another short trail takes you to the community barn across the road, where you’ll find port-a-potties, a cold water sink, refrigerator, charging station, coffee maker, and grills. Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log (cash or Venmo). Note; this campsite is just off a country road so expect some road noise. We have other campsites and cabins that are further in the forest if you prefer to book those. Please respect this LEAVE NO TRACE site—carry out what you bring in, and bring extra TP for the toilets (please do not bury any onsite). **Due to the rugged and wild nature of the land—including steep paths and water crossings—we recommend this campsite for guests who are comfortable navigating natural, unguarded terrain. The Sparrow House is a beautiful Catskills farmhouse with a private trail to a breathtaking 120' sacred waterfall. Bordering a rock gorge and unspoiled forest, it is a peaceful retreat with a cozy wood stove, outdoor sauna and sweeping views of the mountains. Ideal for couples, families, and small groups of nature lovers, the house is not appropriate for loud parties. Camping on the lawn is permitted. Events require pre-approval. 🙏🦋🙏 The Space The Sparrow House can sleep up to 7 guests (including 2 extra single mattresses for flexible sleeping). The master bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom a full; and the downstairs living room an oversized single daybed which can be a flex 3rd bedroom. Perfect sleeping by the fire or lounging around, the living room has a wall of sliding doors that open to the patio, backyard, fire pit, and forest. The Sparrow House has a full kitchen, dining room, sitting room, outdoor sauna, 2 full bathrooms (one with tub, one with walk-in shower), central heat, washer/dryer, and high-speed WiFi. There are two window AC units upstairs, though the house stays pretty cool on its own. Two large flat panel TVs (HDMI only) are available. There is no cable or network TV. Outdoors Relax on the back patio, on the side porch or under the trees in a hammock. The large fenced yard is bordered by honeysuckle vines, with hummingbird feeders, a firepit, and space to run around. Dogs are welcome (fee: $75/dog), but please keep them off beds and furniture. The Waterfall Kahonrakén:ra is magical. A sacred site revered for its powerful energy, it cascades into a secluded pool before flowing into emerald swimming holes and clay riverbeds. This is a deeply restorative space. Please treat it—and the land—with care and reverence. Local Attractions The house is close to Middleburgh, Cobleskill, and West Fulton, home to the delightful Sap Bush Café and Panther Creek Arts. Nearby you'll also find cideries, wine and general stores, hiking trails (like Vroman's Nose), farmers markets, antique shops, the Zoom Flume Water Park, Howe’s Caverns, and more. Whether you're looking to soak up the quiet, explore nature or watch a double rainbow over the wildflower fields, The Sparrow House is a perfect upstate retreat any time of year.

We stayed in the Starlight Cabin and it was incredible! The waterfall is such a beautiful place, the cabin is awesome (the bed is so comfortable), the stars were BEAUTIFUL, and Amy was a wonderful, super responsive host. If you are between a few places, trust me, pick this one!

The wildflower cabin was clean and comfortable. The site was completely private and we only had neighbors the first night but barely heard them. The site had everything we needed. The falls were absolutely incredible! We hiked all the way up and wow, what a unique experience! I recommended to my family. Thank you Amy for hosting us! We will absolutely return.

My girlfriend and I stayed here in June 2023 when there was only 2 or 3 sites and have always wanted to come back, it was so worth it. There are more sites now so a little less privacy then the first time, but that didn’t bother us much as we knew it was a possibility going into it seeing they had added more sites. The site we stayed at both times (apple grove) is great for bare bones tent camping which we wanted to do, but the red barn, sink, and porta potties really make a difference in comfortability to our usual bare bones tent camping trip. The waterfall is the real star of the show so to speak and what a star it is. It’s basically you’re own private waterfall, you may see a couple of other people, maybe more in the summer at certain times of the week/day as locals use it as well but both times it was very quiet and we basically had it to ourselves for hours, it’s so peaceful and calming and once you’re there you can see why it’s sacred. Thank you Amy for another wonderful stay!

We loved this experience! The land/area itself is gorgeous and very easily accessible. It’s a very short walk to the barn/porta potties. The amenities were off the hook, we were able to borrow a canopy, a huge water jug (that we were able to fill with the hose!) a shower bag, access to a fridge/microwave, clean porta potties, and even a wheelbarrow to help transport all of the stuff! At the site there was firewood (albeit wet from the storm), a grill rack, a picnic table, another table and metal chairs, a shower nook, a few solar lights and new tiki torches. Wow is all I can say. It feels like the hosts are people who actually enjoy camping as well as community. Actually, the whole town felt very community driven, everyone was so helpful and warm. The apple trees were so nice :) Our dog absolutely loved the waterfall, as did we! The rope swing was my favorite part, and my boyfriend made nachos by the main fall! The hike is a little difficult, but nothing you can’t handle if you’re generally an outdoorsy person and trust the rope! There is a dollar general and a supermarket within 15 mins away that had a lot of stuff we ran out of like tiki torch fluid, dry firewood, groceries etc. There is a gas station/convenience store with a subway attached to it (I forget the name) that has a clean public restroom. There’s also plenty of farmers markets in the area but we unfortunately did not have the time to check them out. Get yourself some hiking shoes and book this place.

Our stay at the Wildflower cabin was amazing. The cabin was extremely beautiful! We especially loved all the screened windows so we could listen to the peepers and the falls at night. The community kitchen was well stocked and very useful. The waterfalls are a must see, wow they were so beautiful. Highly recommend!

This was a beautiful hidden gem. Instructions were very clear, Amy was communicative with me. We opted for the meadow site, the platform was huge, with both shade and sun on both spots. The site had a mini charcoal grill, a picnic table, stumps for seating and stick for the fire! The parking and bathroom were convenient as well. The barn had ALOTTTTT of useful things in case you are in a pinch. There were small wagon carts to carry the heavy stuff to and from the site. The waterfall was pretty, it was very steep going down but there are some ropes to hold on to for safety. Overall, I would recommend this place for your next adventure.

This cabin was so beautiful and we had a lovely little cat visit us everyday we were here! We loved that there were screens on all the windows and doors and how close the cabin was to the waterfall! Thank you for creating such a wonderful place!

Meadow Campsite & Sacred Waterfall
We had a wonderful stay at the Meadow Campsite at Scared Waterfall. The campsite was very private with beautiful mountain views, and the waterfall was the highlight of our trip. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk with one short steep section that’s well worth it. If you plan to explore the waterfall, I’d recommend bringing water shoes or sturdy footwear since the rocks can be slippery. The community barn silo was a nice bonus with thoughtful amenities and local recommendations. The campsite is close to the main road, so you may occasionally hear trucks, along with some dogs barking or people talking in the evening, but it didn’t take away from our experience. The host was very responsive and helpful when we had a question, and we’d happily stay here again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic getaway.

I loved camping here! The waterfall was absolutely majestic and relaxing! The hike was a challenge but we got the hang of it by the second trek! The community barn was such a cool add-on to the experience and was super useful. I loved how secluded the campsite was from the rest of the area. Overall, me and (my now fiancé 🤭) had a wonderful time and would 100% come back in the future!

What an amazing place! The campsite was peaceful, clean, and very well maintained. A big thank you to the hosts for creating such a beautiful, organized, and easy to enjoy camping experience. The shared amenities were a great bonus and everything was thoughtfully laid out. The real highlight was the waterfall. The hike takes some effort and a little navigating, but it is absolutely worth it. Reaching the falls felt surreal and was easily one of the most memorable parts of our trip. If you're looking for a campsite with a little adventure and an unforgettable payoff, this is it. We'd definitely come back!

What a beautiful spot! It's a 10 min drive to town, which is quite nice and has everything we needed. We received directions from Amy to find the site and the waterfall, which were very clear and super helpful. We had some trouble finding the entrance to the barn, but eventually figured it out. Amy did not reply tos my texts letting her know we were arriving and that we had left, but we didn't have issues luckily. The summer showers and the fridge/freezer really helped to stay cool in 100° F. I'll definitely be back later this summer!

This place was so perfect for what we were looking for, just rustic enough to have the stripped back stay we were looking for, with just enough comforts to make it truly feel like a vacation! The waterfall is even more beautiful than the photos show, and the short hike down to it is well worth it. We spent three days on the bank of the waterfall and swimming area just soaking it all in!! For future guests, there’s a short trail to get to your cabin that’s down some stone stairs, keep that in mind when packing. Lighter is better, which works well since there’s so many amenities for you already there! But just keep in mind you can’t drive up to your cabin.

Wildflower cabin was the most beautiful setting for a peaceful romantic summer weekend. The cabin was spotless, well maintained and welcoming. The bed was super comfy and especially loved the mosquito net even though bugs were never an issue. The trail to the waterfall was exhilarating and well worth the effort to experience the most beautiful falls and swimming hole. This was an unforgettable experience and we will definitely be returning.
