Take your canine pal with you! Quiet hours: dusk to 7am. Also consider your dog's inclination for barking. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind.
*DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with steep ladder. Great for two people. Room for dog bed or kennel below the loft. Has a nice reading/coffee room, fridge, oil radiator, hot plate, WiFi, deck with table and chairs, patio with fire ring., grill outside. You have full use of the trails in our woods!

Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'.
We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth.
Our home was once an abandoned house that sat for years until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here!
Just down the road is a trout stream and beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired its horses and closed its doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun.
This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

Our yurt sits on the edge of a wild woods on the banks of the Cloquet River overlooking a meadow that is an active forest restoration project currently in process. From your door, you can access a loop of trails that wind through the woods, to the river and back to the yurt.
Get back to basics. There is no electricity or running water in the yurt. Camp lanterns and solar lights are provided as is refillable fresh water and a propane camp stove/oven with pots/pans/utensils. The yurt is heated solely by a wood stove and there is plenty of firewood a short distance away with a sled or wagon to use for hauling. A campfire pit is just outside the yurt with a hanging grill and grilling tools. A detached outhouse is a short walk from the yurt and is for your use alone when you're here. In the winter, a Luggable Loo is available to bring to the yurt to eliminate trips at night in the cold to the outhouse. The yurt contains a queen bed with linens and a single camp cot available on request.
Dogs are welcome in the yurt! We charge a $25 pet fee per reservation. If you'd like to bring a dog or dogs (limit 2), please add the Pet Fee which is listed as an extra during the booking process.
In the warm months, the river is great for swimming and fishing.
(And Coming Soon: Kayaks, river tubes, and canoe availability pending the sorting of proper insurance.)
In the winter, two pairs of snowshoes are included for quiet walks through the woods.
*Note: Train sounds and some road noise can be heard from the yurt.
The train has been described as "quite loud" by some guests and as sounding "off in the distance" and "pleasant" by others. The crossing is a half mile away. This is my little slice of heaven, and I’d love to share it with like-minded folks who appreciate nature as much as I do. I bought this property less than a year ago, and I’m already in love with it.🫶🏕
The mature cedar and birch trees are my favorite part of the property, but the young maples are beautiful too. If you’ve ever wanted to experience absolute silence, this is your chance. Lyman lake is about a mile down the gravel road, and you can loons calling in the morning and evening. You’ll also frequently hear owls in the evening and at night.
There’s a fairly steep hill leading down to the cabin, but you can usually drive all the way down(Sometimes the hill gets slick after a good rain, I'll inform you before your arrival if you shouldn't drive down) There are a couple of walking trails that have been made throughout the property.
This is a great location for enjoying all the incredible nature northern Wisconsin has to offer. It’s right on the edge of endless wilderness, but close enough to nearby towns and amenities that you can have the best of both worlds—seclusion when you want it, and convenience when you need it.

Linda and Chris have made magic! Once on the land, it's clear they have created from a heart-centered vision. We felt the beautiful energy! My partner and I chose Balsam Ridge to celebrate my birthday and I was more than satisfied. We were beyond blown away our experience. Each area has its own unique flair. And the flow of the camping sites allows for plenty of privacy and peace. Thank you for carving out a special place in my hometown!

Our family absolutely loved our stay at The Stuga! From the pond to the play house, the trails and ambience . We will definitely be making a trip back. Linda and Chris were amazing hosts! Very responsive on needs and so kind! Linda brought our boys some worms to make sure they would catch fish in the pond! Our oldest absolutely loved it, he even went swimming!! The Stuga is definitely the one to stay at when taking littles along for the ride!!

What a great retreat so close to campus. We were visiting our son at UMD and being only 5 min away was great. Danny’s Tent was perfect for a two night stay. The bed was comfortable and the saw dust outhouse did the trick. We hope to come back in the winter.

This place exceeded our expectations! Cute, cozy coop in a campground compound with a fishing pond, game room, swings, and community area with guitar and piano. Linda’s hospitality went above and beyond. We had a lovely weekend stay and would come back.

Weekend Trip to Rustic River Retreat
This was our second trip to the cabin and we had such a great time we extended our stay by one night! The cabin is simple, clean, and comfortable. The outdoor space is quiet, neat, and well suited to support both the cabin visitors and camp sites. The river access is perfect and the site it close to other fun things like Banning state park and the bike trail. Love it and we’ll be back!

Group trip
Had a blast at these camper cabins! Beautiful walk down to the lake & amazing private beach. Camper cabins, out houses, and picnic table all clean & in great shape. Super nice they had plenty of carts to bring in stuff & lots of firewood available. Will definitely be back!

This place has so much to offer! We are so grateful they have decided to share it with us Hipcampers! A good fit for families and reactive dogs. Mosquitos weren’t bad either for being so close to water. Would like to return during Fall!

My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. We stayed in the cabin and it was perfect. Firm beds, clean sheets, and a pull out for the kids. There was also a bathroom with running (and warm) water a short distance from the cabin. The string lights kept everything very well illuminated. And there was a fire ring with a grate for cooking and a basic kitchen with a griddle. We are already talking about when we could come back! ❤️👌

Cabin was clean, it is a distance to walk so be prepared! Was a very lovely time.
Got to hold a strangers baby (which I loved every minute), met some very nice people for my sisters and my over night stay!
Would 100% recommend. Beds were even comfortable!
