In downtown Mount Vernon you can walk the outdoor promenade along the Skagit River, get takeout from local restaurants and coffee shops, or visit unique downtown shops.

Watch the sunset into the world famous San Juan Islands. Our property is
located on the scenic Chuckanut Drive. It is a 15 minute walk to Taylor United's Seafood Bar that has beer and wine. You will need boots just below the knee, or hiking shoes that will get wet. The Creek crossing is a little deeper this year. You will also be crossing a muddy area for about 20 yards, you will sink about 3 inches into the mud. The hike into the campsite takes 12 minutes. You need to contact me to check the tides, as to be able to get to the campsite. We need to hike in below a 5 foot tide. Starting October, the campsite closes for winter. Again , this campsite is Tide dependent. The first question to me should be, What is the latest we can hike in? I am not Moses, I can’t part the sea. Camp closed during winter October/ march

Come stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Anacortes Washington Park or Kukutali Preserve State Park crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and, the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago.
Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles.
While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Shawn, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! . We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations.

We are dog friendly, and we require all guests to clean up after their dogs. There are plastic bags provided for animal waste disposal when dogs are in the backyard and on neighborhood walks. Cleaning up after pets includes excess pet hair, especially on furniture. Please use the waterproof pet blanket provided for the sofa and bed.
Guests bring the animal onto the property at their own risk. The booking guest is liable for any damages that pets cause. (We will have to charge a cleaning fee if your dog leaves behind a mess or causes damage.)
We find that most people are cooperative and responsible with their pets. We love traveling with our fur babies, and would like to keep allowing pets in our listings. Thank you for being understanding and working with us to keep our rental available to pets!
Rules for dogs:
1. We do NOT have a fenced yard or space. If you have a dog that will wander, we require you to keep your dog on a leash or a lead.
2. We live in a country neighborhood and being good neighbors is very important to us. Excessive barking, making noise or being a nuisance to our neighbors is not allowed.
3. Clean up after your dog in the rental, around the rental and anywhere you take your dog in the neighborhood.

Weekend Trip to Hobson Meadows
I only stayed for one night, but I had a great time. The land is very quiet compared to the bustle of the city and it is a nice change of scenery. There was a good amount of space between sites and the facilities were well maintained. The noises of nature are also very nice, went to sleep to the sound of frogs and woke up to the sound of the birds.

5 nights at Sunset Ridge
Shaums’ place is beautiful. My friend and I had a wonderful time camping there during our mountain biking trip in the PNW. We were cozy in the Sunset Ridge camper, and had ample time by the fire area, which has incredible views. The camper couch pulls out into a comfy bed and so the RV was perfect for our needs. We cooked a simple breakfast in the mornings and then outsourced our meals to the many awesome establishments and food trucks just down the hill in Bellingham. This setup worked great so that we could spend more time on the trails. Shaums is a wonderful host—attentive, friendly, and a super cool and interesting guy (a local MTB legend to boot). We are excited we found this place and we look forward to returning soon for our next adventure. Highly recommended! Thanks for a great and memorable stay!

We loved the peaceful and relaxing setting of the cabin site. The cabin was very sweet and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking the salmon we purchased, by the campfire. The outdoor table with canopy was great for shade as well as setting up our camp stove. The trails through the forest and fields were well kept, and much enjoyed. The whole property appears to be maintained with much love and care.

Weekend Trip to The Chuckanut Rock
Tony was incredibly helpful! He met us on arrival and guided us to the site.
It’s about a 10 minute walk to the property the first time and we waaaaay over packed for this trip. Do bring good boots for trekking through mud. Some spaces went over my ankle, but overall, not bad if you watch the tides.
The location is stunning and Chuckanut Rock had almost anything we needed already in terms of cooking equipment and sleeping arrangements. Next time, we will pack lighter. 10/10, we would love to return again and enjoy watching the tides come in :)

Amazing cabin with incredible views! My kids and I absolutely loved our stay. It was much bigger than it looked in the photos and had everything I was hoping for — peaceful nature, quality time to reconnect, and private creek access that was perfect for a cold dip. It completely exceeded my expectations. The host was so kind, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My kids are already asking when we can come back! 10/10!

Whoa, this place is so special. The treehouses are impeccably crafted and offer a beautiful place to rest within the green forest. Trails were short and sweet for a little wander, comfortable bed with linens, easy restrooms, beautiful farm/garden. Campfire area was super cozy, everything you need for an easy, restful stay.

Despite the rain our 3 day camping weekend was outstanding at The Rusty Tree Farm. Her hospitality and friendliness are over the top. She went out of her way to make the additional experiences for our grandkids, personal and meaningful (Hang with the Hens and Pony Time).
The land is well groomed, and she is an outstanding steward.
The additional shelters and outhouse are incomparable to anything we have ever experienced.
We will definitely be back to stay.

As others has said in previous reviews, it’s a one-of-a-kind camping spot. I won’t go into all of the details that are mentioned in the other reviews, but definitely read them. Here are some additional details that I think will provide guidance for future visitors.
1. Know the tides well. We preferred going in and out on high tide with the canoe, but walking in and out on low time is fine as well. Just know that you will get very, very muddy. It’s very silty mud and easy to get stuck. Bring good boots and multiple pairs of socks.
2. Mid-tide is a tough call. It’s tough to get the canoe out and it takes a little while to walk and you wouldn’t want to get stuck.
3. Pack light. We took way too much stuff. The campsite has chairs, cookware, a gas heating camp stove, gas. There are also life jackets for the canoe.
4. I’d recommend bringing a tent. It’s set up to sleep inside, but the front is open. A storm hit us on day 1 (and it is the PNW) so I’d bring one.
5. Your car(s) are safe by the train tracks. I was worried about this before I got here, but it’s very private and I didn’t worry about our car getting messed with at all.
6. Be weather / tide / water aware. I’d stay pretty close to shore if you don’t have experience in open water. If you tipped the canoe out in open water you’d be in trouble. It’s a pretty remote area so you’d likely be on your own. That said, it’s a very stable canoe.
I think that’s about it,… It’s a bit of work to get there, but a great site!

This spot was perfect—I needed quietude after weeks on the road and before navigating family.
Nancy was welcoming and responsive. The bed was super comfortable to me (though be aware there is an 1 foot plus gap between the head of the bed and the wall in case that’s impactful in terms of your sleeping needs) and the bedding was super comfy—layers of a couple blankets that felt like a perfect balance of warmth and weight. I was also grateful to have some cooking basics to use (the single serving french press was great).
I loved the light coming in, the ebb and flow of the water through the day, and getting to enjoy all the birds (highlights were watching a little robin mid-forage with a ton of grass in its beak and very skillfully add more to the bundle and a really beautiful-to-watch kestrel).
I’m glad to have had time to relax somewhere so beautiful with my dog, who means everything to me.
I hope to come back someday :)

My dog and I stayed in the Spruce treehouse and had the place all to ourselves. The treehouse was so fun and the site was very peaceful. We were able to relax on the comfortable bed inside and enjoy the beautiful view of the trees, have a campfire in the little fire pit under the treehouse, and thankfully had a warm shower in the bath house after a long hike. They are currently building an additional shelter on the large lower deck of the spruce treehouse, so that deck space is no longer available for lounging. They provided towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They provided wood for the fire pit. The treehouse was simple inside and comfortable. I loved waking up to the birds and the trees. Heads up that you can hear the train when it goes by and it's quite loud, which surprised my dog in the middle of the night. We enjoyed our stay and recommend that you include this place in one of your adventures!

The directions made it easy to find. We really loved being surrounded by a beautiful forest. The tree house was very comfortable with ann amazing view, and the fire pit area was great for hanging out and having take out dinner from nearby Acme diner. Our dog really enjoyed everything about the trip, especially walking the path around the property. The nearby restroom with flush toilet and shower was clean. This truly is a special place!
