I had been searching for over 2 years for a property where I could make a difference in the environment and live in the wilderness. I was looking for water on a large tract of land that was remote. In 2017 I found the perfect property and to my dismay it had sold 2 days before I saw the listing. I was shocked because this was the perfect property. In my 2 years of searching I knew exactly what I wanted and this was the property. It had a private lake with fish. A solar cabin with a flush toilet and hot shower. The cabins 8 foot windows faced West for magical sunsets and view of the storms that roll in from the coast. It was beautifully treed with just the right amount of open meadow and forest with Hemlock, Ponderosa pine, and Larch. How could this property be sold? I tried to let it go but thought about it for the next year. After a year and a half had passed and my search continued I came across an advertisement for this magical property, it was up for sale again. I called the real estate agent immediately and found that an offer had been made but the buyers could not commit for 5 more months. I made an offer that day not really knowing how I was going to pull off the money. I knew this property was meant for me. I wrote the owner a letter explaining that I was a land steward and that this land would never be developed. I would be putting it in a land trust where no developers could put up condos. The owner happened to be a environmentally focused human and he ended up selling to me. Come to find out when I had first saw the property sold a year and a half before, that transaction had fallen through. The owner had just taken it off the market for the winter. There was originally a camper parked here with a roof over it while the main house was built back in th 1970s. When the home was finished the camper was moved out and it was turned into the cabin. It originally had a wood stove but it was always to hot so we replaced it with an electric heater and at the same time remodeled the interior. It is very comfortable for two to three people as it only has the bunk beds, microwave, small closet and dining table with 4 chairs including a rocker and a cabinet with pots, pans and silverware for your convenience. Learn more about this land: Country cabin is on the treeline at the base of O'tool mt. across the street from Lk. Roosevelt. Includes bunk beds, frig, microwave, hot plate, coffee pot, toaster, dining table, small closet, firepit with firewood and horseshoe pits with shoes. One mile to boat launch. Ten miles to nearest loaf of bread. Close to logging roads. You will have aprox. one acre to yourself. Quiet and secluded. We are close by if ever there is anything you need. Recently we were very close to the Crown Creek fire and a hotshot crew came and "prept" our property and cut down a lot of the underbrush therefore changing the landscape around the cabin so the main picture has changed to the current one.

Since this hut is built with partially screened walls and partial solid walls, you should consider the season when requesting a booking. I will accept bookings starting but even in May the night time temps can be cold. Checking the local Northport, WA weather forecast can give you an idea of what weather we will be expecting. Please consider this luxurious tent camping as there is no heat source in the hut, no electricity or running water. Please bring lanterns, flashlights, headlamps etc. The futon is a queen size and I can provide sheets and bedding but prefer you bring your own if possible ***There is a very limited supply of potable water on the property so you are required to pack in your drinking and cooking water. Washing and shower water is provided.*** In the early spring and late fall we cover the screened walls of the hut with clear window plastic so that the nights are not very cold inside the screen house. We provide a propane buddy heater that is safe for indoor use to help keep the space warm for you!! A hot water shower with equally impressive views is close to the straw house but still as private as you need it to be. Once owned by the Lael family (whom the road is named after), this land supported lots of horses in it's past. The Lael family homsteaded this area, raising horses on their acerage and the original Lael house is still standing on the lower section of the property. Old and beautiful apple, plum, cherry and pear trees still thrive in the orchard they planted along with massive willow trees. I'm honored to continue the Lael's love for the equine with my own herd of horses. Horseback riding is available upon request and for an additional fee of $75 per person for a ride.

Trumpkinland Farm is part of what used to be an old dairy owned by one of the original settlers in this area. It is set in a rolling valley, surrounded by hills, mountains, and heavy forest. It is once again a dairy, with a name hearkening to Narnia, the books by C. S. Lewis. It is also, however, now a smallish family sized farm with many other species added to the mix. I raise a rare breed of dairy cow and several breeds of fiber sheep along with heritage pigs. Geese wander freely, along with a few turkeys. If you enjoy animals, there are many kinds of them here and most are friendly! Learn more about this land: First, about my farm name:  My daughter had been reading The Chronicles of Narnia when we befriended and helped an orphaned little fawn, and she immediately named it Trumpkin, after one of the characters in Narnia. This is where her Trumpkin lived and grew up, and so this became Trumpkin's land AKA Trumpkinland Farm.  Over the years a number of deer have come to trust us enough to get relatively close and eat with our animals. Come camp with your tent or self contained RV in our private woods or meadows and enjoy our wild and domestic friends, too, in the beautiful, magical inland northwest!  You can have total privacy, and yet be a short walk from the main farm and a short drive to local natural attractions. There are trails to explore in almost all directions. Some camping sites can be driven to, primarily in the upper meadow, depending on your vehicle. If choosing to be deeper in the woods,  tent camping will work best in most spots, with a carry it in and park either in the meadow or down by the farm proper. If you are tent camping, don't forget a good pad under your sleeping bag! The ground is hard, uneven, and in some places rocky! As this property is also a farm, if you run short of food supplies, or want to buy some of what is produced right here on the farm, there are many options for that! From the gardens to wild fruit foraging, farms are all about food. Farms, camping, and the woods are also about relaxing. We really loved our stay at Matt's cabin, which was so homey and comfortable. The solar cabin was easy to use, and we had plenty of energy for all of our needs. The cabin sits on a very quiet 100 acres, and we had a blast playing around in the lake and running around the property with our dog, who got to be off leash the entire time. A few things to note: The cabin is pretty remote, and the road is slow, so definitely stock up on groceries ahead of time! (The kitchen is well equipped, so cooking is easy there.) The road up to the cabin is narrow but in very good shape right now--our AWD Volkswagen ID.4 handled it just fine in mid-September. Also, while at the cabin, we did run into one neighbor passing by in his pickup truck (he was very friendly) and one propane delivery truck, so keep that in mind if you have a dog (like ours) who is a car chaser. (Luckily we could hear the trucks long before we saw the trucks!) Also, we could get intermittent cell service, especially on the hillier parts of the property, if you need to use your phone or check e-mails occasionally while there. But Matt's cabin is a wonderful place for completely ignoring your phone if you can! Finally, Matt is a lovely person, and he's very easy to communicate with. We're very much looking forward to visiting again.

3 nights at Lakeside Getaway At Spectacle Lake

My family, and I throughly enjoyed camping on their peaceful land. My biggest regret was not staying here for our whole trip. Peace, and quiet, and the ability for our kids to run and get energy out when needed. The photos don’t do the area justice. The amenities were well taken care of, and exactly as described. I have already recommended the location to our neighbors looking for a similar experience of a place to swim, peace and quiet.

We truly loved our 3 days/nights at this location! The house is extremely comfortable with plenty of amenities. Exploring the lake by SUP & floating tubes was a favorite daily activity, along with simply waking up there, gazing out the windows, reading, playing games, and enjoying the quite & non-digital life for a bit.

Our stay at the winery was amazing! Staff was very welcoming and the owners take great pride in their land, I was in absolute awe of their garden and beautiful sunflowers! The wine tasting was phenomenal and we truly enjoyed the homemade dip the owners make. Definitely plan on coming back.

When I was searching for rural/off the grid, this is exactly what I was talking about! When we pulled up to the house, the first thing we saw were 5-6 deer gathered in the yard chomping on grass. I was particularly excited about this trip because I got to bring my extremely anxious dog with us. From the minute we got there to the second we left, I have never seen my boy so relaxed and in his element. He was allowed to be off leash, and explore. It was so amazing and refreshing to watch him be so carefree! We sat around staring/listening to the deer, birds, ducks, turtles. We took our paddle boards around the lake and it was so unbelievably quiet and peaceful! If you want to get away from the noise and the people, this is your place!

My wife and I had one of the most relaxing stays on vacation that I believe we have ever had! Upon arrival, you feel as if you are in the most remote peaceful place that you only imagine about. The first thing we saw across the lake was a spiraling water spout due to one rogue gust of wind that whipped directly toward us across the lake and swept right over us and immediately after that an eagle swooped down upon the lake.(Sounds scary, but it wasnt lol. It's a mountainous region and its to be expected). Didnt think much of it at the time but kind of had a profound meaning after it happened. After that, it was as peaceful as could be. We watched deer wander through the surrounding area with little to care of our existence every day that we were there. We both spent hours just relaxing with a book, sitting in the sun on the deck or out on the dock. Do you enjoy just seeing nature? You will enjoy the vast amount of it! Chipmunks, turtles, birds of all kinds and many a dragonfly! The cabin is cozy as can be and was quite comfortable even in the 90° weather that we experienced while we were there as long as you use the covers in the daytime. You feel as if you are the only people on the planet and every moment is yours. Matt is also very great at communicating what is needed and he is a very gracious host and seams like just a wonderful human being. We definitely hope to make it back someday!

This place and his wonderful host is so wonderful that it’s absolutely worth making not only a detour but also add it as a target. The mountains and its views are very special and you have an amazing view. We would love to come back – but next time for a longer stay. It’s the perfect spot. The day we showed up to camp was the same day there were level 3 fire evacuations. The site was magical until then. Fearful we left at night and slept in our car the next town over. During the day when winds were down we enjoyed the spot thoroughly.

Weekend Trip to The Sleepy Sasquatch

We thoroughly enjoyed our glamping experience! We are very grateful for the opportunity to stay at such a beautiful property. While the lack of phone signal was noticeable, it allowed us to disconnect from social media and fully appreciate the serenity and peacefulness of the location. The stunning view was certainly an added bonus. The hosts were incredibly helpful and ensured we had everything we needed. The off-roading journey to the site was quite exciting, and a 4x4 vehicle would be beneficial. Our Subaru and Jeep Gladiator handled the terrain well. Bringing your own ATV could make this place an ideal location for exploration, but it would be wise to inquire with the hosts beforehand. We found flying kites to be a delightful activity, especially with the morning winds. We would also recommend bringing a tarp for shade, as the sun can be quite strong during the midday hours. The site is perfect for stargazing, and we highly recommend setting up a movie projector at night.

We brought our trailer and enjoy the peace and quiet of the setting. We did some wine tasting and enjoyed Bart and Victory’s hospitality. Beautiful area. Would recommend it.

The big meadow at the back has many possibilities for tucking a camp into the trees or bigger groups out in the open, as a base area for further exploring. Pictures were taken at the end of summer, so it is dry, fall colors. Every season has it's colors!

It was so peaceful. You really have to slow down when you get there. Nothing is rushed, even conversation. Such a peaceful beautiful place, took me back growing up with the hippies in the 70's. Cannot say enough about this place. The wines, the foods, the hosts, so wonderful.
