We really enjoyed Sharon’s whimsical Potting Shed with its cosy interior and all the yummy fresh berries and vegetables that the garden offers! There were so many little nooks and cranny everywhere to enjoy some romantic time. The doggos, Gala and Bodhi, were also perfect hosts, checking up on us. Can’t wait to be back in the different seasons to enjoy the garden!

This was a great place to visit! The owner Shaum is incredibly kind and welcoming. Lots of great hiking trails, and a great spot to watch the sunset!

Weekend Trip to Grace E.’s Mini Forest Cabins

The camp site was very nice and clean, the cabin was clean and comfortable and kept pretty warm at night. When it god colder the propane heater worked great. The host was very gracious, she showed us around and showed us how to use the heater. No one bothered us our whole trip and the host was available if we needed anything. We went to town on our second day and picked up things we forgot, the local IGA had everything we needed. My Subaru forester made it up the big hill just fine, just like she says don’t hesitate but 4 wheel drive helped a lot. Would definitely stay here again!

1 night at Simple Roots Ranch

A+++. Our stay at the Potting Shed was beyond delightful. The lovely room had a comfortable bed and a view of the gardens. The outdoor kitchen had everything a cook could need, and we really loved the logwood countertops,. There were even fresh berries in the refrigerator for us, plus fresh cut garden flowers, lovely soaps and tea cloths, etc. The outside shower room was equally cute with its clawfoot bath (as a shower) and fresh cut lavender and scrub salts. The couple was so kind, making us very feel welcome, even starting the campfire for us and sharing fresh greens from their extensive vegetable gardens. The property is beautiful, I only wish we’d set aside more time to explore the property. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I cannot begin to recommend this Hipcamp enough. We recently stayed in Cabin 1 and were completely satisfied with both the cabin and the surrounding property. The camp host was very helpful in showing us around, making sure questions were answered and even a last-minute adjustment. The area around the property is packed with all kinds of outdoor activities all within short driving distance. Great dog property to burn off excess energy and not have to worry about any side-eye from the neighbors. We will absolutely be returning to this site again in the future. Thank you very much Grace for welcoming us to your beautiful campsite. See you again soon.

Weekend Trip to Sunset Ridge

We had an amazing stay at Shaums' place as part of a mountain bike weekend in Bellingham! The A frame was such a fun way to upgrade our usual camping experience. It's basically like a wooden tent with a porch and hammock -- so cool! We brought an air mattress and made dinner over the campfire with things we found at the farmers market that morning. Shaums was an amazing host, communicative, incredibly hospitable, and even suggested the best sunset watching spot 🤩 would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Guemes North Homestead

We used to live off grid so it was great to take my fifteen year old son and three of his friends to this homestead so they could experience a little of the sustainable living craft. Ian was a super great communicator and very attentive and flexible to our needs.

The Simple Roots Ranch Potting Shed was very quaint and situated within a lush garden. Both Sharon and Dave were very accommodating to my kids and I during our 2 night stay. We enjoyed fresh berries from the garden, strolled through the wooded trails, and generally enjoyed the well tended grounds. A beautiful stay.

This place feels like the good vibe vortex I didn't know I needed. So thankful for the cozy spot! The little cabin is really comfy. I'm in love with the little outdoor rocket stove and totally need to get one now. Ian was so kind and thoughtful. Soaking in the sauna and swimming in the pond was such an amazing reset! The interns that I met are some of sweetest folks in the world! Such a great experience! I'll definitely be back!

Cool last minute booking. Treehouse was clean and comfortable and had electricity (didn’t expect when booking). Super cool experience. Bathroom area is also clean and easily accessible (by the parking, short walk from the treehouses). Instructions to the property and to the treehouses was easy to follow. Overall great experience. If we had more time we would have explored the property more as I have no doubt it is gorgeous!

I love the setup and how they built the dome with all the amenities. The pillows and comforters are comfy. The shower is a big plus. They have everything you need. The community is gated and safe. What a cute place! We needed off grid and we got it. One thing I recommend if you're over 30 is to bring extra padding for the bed - They are thin which does not work for my old hips LOL - otherwise the place was great and we will go back. Grounds were awesome, my pups could run around with no issues, there are trails all over, wild life, etc.

Custer is an easy 20-minute drive to Bellingham, 10-15 minutes to 2 coastal beaches (Birch Bay and Semiahmoo), and only 10 minutes to Blaine and the Canadian border. We love to host our friends and show people around our beautiful slice of the PNW🌲 We are a big family, so we designed all of our glamping sites to be kid and pet friendly and big enough to fit families of 2-6. A little luxury and ease for the grownups and a magical nature experience for the kids. Kids are allowed to "just be" here. Cellular reception isn't great but no one seems to notice. Not when they are busy building forts, roasting marshmallows and climbing up tree houses. The intention infused into all of our spaces is a Hygge* (pronounced hoo-gah) vibe. *Hygge is a calm, comfortable time with people you love. The absence of frustrations; often enjoyed with warm drinks, cozy blankets and candlelight or a fire.❤️ County Noise Statement: We love living in rural Whatcom County and we know land owners in our area love it too. In fact, their enthusiasm for the great outdoors is so high that sometimes they can generate sounds that will travel throughout the day. These are likely sounds you are not accustomed to hearing in a traditional neighborhood. Distant noises such as: -county shooting range located a few miles away -tractors -mowers & chainsaws -ATV vehicles -barking dogs -farm animals (goat, horses, crowing roosters) -wild animals (early morning bird song and owls at night) -children laughing -adult voices -train horn Evenings are generally very quiet and peaceful as night falls with the exception of holiday weekends as the enthusiasm for owning property in the country may ramp up ;) We tell you all this in order to be fully transparent about noise potential. If the potential for noise and the nearby shooting range will be a damper on your glamping experience, no worries! We totally get it! Our place is probably not the best fit. If you want to bring your kids to a place where they can build a fort, take a break from their screens and build family memories over a campfire, then you will love it here! We have Nigerian dwarf goats, apples, pears, plums, blackberries & Iris to enjoy. Wild animals abound. There are walking/biking trails right around the corner and you are 15 minutes from downtown, the ocean and enjoying sports like kayaking, swimming, whale watching, etc. Our glamping sites are completely off grid. Enjoy simplicity in comfortable luxury! We are dog friendly, and we require all guests to clean up after their dogs. There are plastic bags provided for animal waste disposal when dogs are in the backyard and on neighborhood walks. Cleaning up after pets includes excess pet hair, especially on furniture. Please use the waterproof pet blanket provided for the sofa and bed. Guests bring the animal onto the property at their own risk. The booking guest is liable for any damages that pets cause. (We will have to charge a cleaning fee if your dog leaves behind a mess or causes damage.) We find that most people are cooperative and responsible with their pets. We love traveling with our fur babies, and would like to keep allowing pets in our listings. Thank you for being understanding and working with us to keep our rental available to pets! Rules for dogs: 1. We do NOT have a fenced yard or space. If you have a dog that will wander, we require you to keep your dog on a leash or a lead. 2. We live in a country neighborhood and being good neighbors is very important to us. Excessive barking, making noise or being a nuisance to our neighbors is not allowed. 3. Pacific Rim Institute

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region. We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

The Guemes North Homestead is ten acres of gorgeous tall trees, clearings, homestead buildings, pond, trails, renewable energy gear, and more, set in the middle of the north end of Guemes Island (a 7-minute ferry from downtown Anacortes), at the end of a 1/3-mile dead-end driveway. It has nature, quiet, and privacy. It includes a 30-year-old orchard, a developed garden with fine soil, a pond with rope swing and waterslide, several solar and wind energy systems, and multiple buildings. It's about a mile in two directions from the Pacific Ocean beach, and is surrounded by wooded acreage that is criss-crossed with trails and friendly neighbors, on an island with about 700 year-round residents and an active weekend/summer population. Homestead owner Ian Woofenden is an expert in renewable energy systems. He's lived off-grid at the homestead for 40-plus years, where he raised his large family and managed several small businesses. He now consults, sells, writes, and teaches about renewable energy in the U.S. and in Central America. If your idea of a great getaway is to help out and do physical work, just ask Ian. There's always something going on at the homestead, including garden and orchard work, trail building, wood cutting, construction, sawmilling, and more. Ian built this place, and has a broad knowledge of lots of homestead and sustainability topics. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience with guest, students, and interns. You will not be renting separately from someone else. There is power for RV hook up close by. with additional room for more tents. Also, an instant hot water tank for a shower for guest to use between May 1 thru November 1 of each year.. There are two picnic table, a covered kitchen area, just bring your own water to wash dishes. There is an above ground wood fire pit. A covered gazebo over another wood pit that is shared with Bruce and Lynn during rainy times. For an additional fee, a wheel barrel full of good dry wood for $25.00 keep in mind it may be a bit wet in the 2025 year due not having enough time to thoroughly dry out. Owners live on property but you’ll have 100% privacy at river (unless you want to kick it with a couple cool cats like us). The listing is for eight people on the property but if you choose to bring additional guest, it will be five dollars per night per guest ages 5 and above. (please do not include 5 and under in your booking to ensure you are not charged. But we do ask you do list everyone 5 and above so we know who will be on property. We are a recycle family so please use our recycle bins but you must take out your own garbage when you leave. We will provide you with two large garbage bags. We ask that you remove your shoes while in yurts. Animals are welcome and they can be inside the yurts, we ask they stay off furniture/beds. Also, we provide doggie poo bags and a shovel so pick up what they leave behind them. We have a camp box that can be rented if you want to camp but do not have typical camping supplies. We are in process of collecting menus from local restaurants and can provide details for local activities. You can fish from our rivers edge but you must have a fishing license and know the fishing regulations in order to not be fined. Wifi in on property. But come relax and let the stresses of daily life until you get back home from being on this beautiful property. Fall asleep to the river flowing!

The Purple Cottage

This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & ; family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... There is a very small sleeping loft in the cottage.). There is a “en suite kitchen in the cottage that has a small fridge, microwave, and two burner stovetop cooking unit. The cottage offers privacy in a wooded garden setting. The bathhouse, with hot shower, vanity and; toilet --are all steps away (and covered) from the main cabin. The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. our vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Even with all the little enclave of buildings, The Purple Cottage retains a private feel all to itself, with reliable Wi-Fi available at the cottage. . It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. The private deck off the side of the Purple Cottage offers views of the gardens & flora, and has a little gas barbecue. There is also a delightful hot tub on the deck, which is a wonderful feature. An outdoor kitchen on the edge of the woods allows a roomier “camp cooking” experience with Colman stove & cold running water (season permitting). We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town! The Purple Cottage offers a rustic retreat in a place that feels far away, but is an hour & a half from the bustling city of Seattle!
