Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs. When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting. Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river. Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer. Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish. This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond. Come, enjoy and make some memories! Children 10 and under are free On the other side of the river you might hear a train passing by at different times, both, day and night. Safety Notice: Not accessible by boat, canoe, or kayak when the James River level is 6 feet or higher at Scottsville. At 7.5 - 8 feet, there is not much beach to play on and the river is too dangerous to navigate. If you enjoy a rustic, primitive tent camping experience and are looking to spend a little more than average so that you are able to camp in a place where there will be no other campers or campsites being utilized during your stay, our campsite may be a good fit for you! For now, it is the only campsite we are offering on our property. We provide the campsite with a table and chairs and a firepit, but outside of that you will need to bring your own amenities, such as water, lights and camping toilet. You may collect wood surrounding campsite to make a fire or purchase a chopped firewood bundle(s) from us. We do have a trashcan at entrance into woods you can put your trash into. We are in Fluvanna County, roughly 5 miles from the historic town of Scottsville. Your campsite will be down a wooded dirt road (4WD required) into our 20-acre wooded parcel which adjoins our 10-acre parcel and farmhouse, that is nearby further down main driveway. While we wish to respect your privacy as much as possible, do keep in mind that you may hear or see things associated with our living on the property and we do have children and animals. Our dogs Brewster and Ruby are friendly and may try to stop by to check things out at some point during your stay, but if that is an issue for you I can make every effort to keep them with us/in the house during your stay. We are roughly 30 minutes from Charlottesville, 20 minutes from Palmyra and 10 minutes from the historic town of Scottsville on the James River where you can float and/or fish, kayak, canoe, tube (outfitters right in Scottsville) rent a kayak, canoe, paddle board or tube from us (must sign liability waiver) or walk around the town of Scottsville & see the historic architecture and visit the novelty shops, restaurants, a bakery, coffee/book shop, thrift/antique mall, art gallery, a mercantile with locally sourced natural and raw foods and beverages. The Rivanna River is also not far. There are several wineries such as Cunningham Creek, Mount Ida and Hardware Hills and a brewery in Scottsville called James River Brewery nearby. Visit some nearby parks, Pleasant Grove or Scheier Nature Area in Fluvanna County and Dorrier Park or Van Clief Nature Area in Scottsville, Walnut Creek Park in Albemarle.

Here, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas, watch the spectacular sunsets, chase fireflies, make a campfire, search for the Milky Way, and then sleep easy in your own queen-sized bed on this historic property. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville are within 30 minutes. At days end you can go to concerts or “clubbing” in town or return to Billyville and enjoy the quiet, peaceful ambiance of a campfire under a starlit sky. Check-Ins and Arrival Instructions: Check-ins on weekdays are dependent on my work schedule. If this is your first time at Billyville, I need to be on property to guide you into your site. Please reach out before your stay so we can coordinate. If I am off on that day, check-in is after 1pm. If I am working, it will be after 5pm and occasionally after 7. I am currently testing out some procedures to allow self check-in. We'll see how that pans out. Anyway, to get to Billyville: Turn onto Bells Lane. (Dirt Road). You'll see a white fence on your left down the lane about .2 miles. Just after the fence, you'll see a red sign at the beginning of a rope fence. Turn off Bells Lane just after the sign and follow the fence, keeping it on you left. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. There is something for everyone from children to seniors, from outdoor adventurers, to history buffs, arts and entertainment seekers, bargain shoppers and local gourmet food and drink lovers. At days end you can go to concerts or “clubbing” in town or return to Billyville and enjoy the quiet, peaceful ambiance of a campfire under a starlit sky. Check-Ins and Arrival Instructions: Check-ins on weekdays are dependent on my work schedule. If this is your first time at Billyville, I need to be on property to guide you into your site. Please reach out before your stay so we can coordinate. If I am off on that day, check-in is after 1pm. If I am working, it will be after 5pm and occasionally after 7. I am currently testing out some procedures to allow self check-in. We'll see how that pans out. Anyway, to get to Billyville: Turn onto Bells Lane. (Dirt Road). You'll see a white fence on your left down the lane about .2 miles. Just after the fence, you'll see a red sign at the beginning of a rope fence. Turn off Bells Lane just after the sign and follow the fence, keeping it on you left. Enjoy an overnight or a couple of days. The 2 acre campsites are on an elevated sand and gravel bar on the north and south shores of Big Island. There's ample room for multiple tents and boats. Pools and slow moving water to cool off after your float down, and a great place for catfishing and watching satellite fly-bys at night. Plenty of Bald Eagles, Ospreys, and just about all of Virginia's animals inhabit this section of the James.  Enjoy the scenery!  KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK and GO  1. Check out river levels, forecasts and warnings. There can be class 1 and 2 rapids (and more) depending on river height. Very experienced paddlers only once the river gets above approximately 5.0 feet or so at Scottsville. The host will gladly rebook your stay should the river height not be safe for your group. Check James River height at Scottsville or other reputable data source.  2. You must take the south channel (some call it "River Right") as you approach the Seven Islands chain to access  Campsite 1. My partner took me camping for my birthday and he chose the site. The view was spectacular and the hosts were very friendly! There is a really cool train that passes on the other side of the water, and it is so cool to watch. We got a bundle of wood, and it lasted us all weekend. I was on site 2, and the only suggestion I might make is to perhaps make stairs going down to the water level area. I'll be back for sure!

Robert's site was as advertised. Super privacy, full hookups. Robert was there to meet us, blowing leaves and putting things in tip-top shape for our stay. We enjoyed the firepit (bought some wood from him) and spent the day exploring Mineral (a couple of consignment shops, 53rd Winery--awesome--and Tim's Restaurant on the lake). This place is just under an hour from our home and great for quick getaways. It's on our list to do again!

What a charming and peaceful property! They have the sweetest animals and a beautiful garden. It was nice to have a restroom and shower nearby. Great spacious camp site. We really appreciated the canopy that was set up for us because the sun was hot during the day, and there was plenty of firewood available to keep us warm at night. Karen made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we needed, including jumper cables when one of our cars wouldn’t start. AMAZING spot for stargazing!

when it comes to camping with kids i try to find places that can entertain them the whole time and this site met the expectations! the farm was so cute and lovely, the kids loved being able to play on the playground and were obsessed with all the animals which were all super friendly (especially the cats). the site feels far away from everything, but a grocery store is less than 10 min away. the hosts and her children were all very friendly and helpful. Apryl was attentive to any of our needs we really enjoyed our stay. i definitely recommend this site for children/ families!

The campground itself is situated right on the river with a very thoughtful set of steps leading down to a beachy area. Plenty of space to set up tents and have designated areas for games, cooking, etc. The host was super welcoming and brought a load of firewood out to us to make sure we had a comfortable stay. We will absolutely be coming back.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay on the farm. We were trying to book a last minute camping trip. There were no tent sites available but Apryl accommodated our family in another spot on the property, which we felt was actually really awesome ! We loved the farm and camping amongst the animals. It was like nothing we have ever done before. All of the animals are friendly and accustomed to people. The farm cats were the absolute cutest and often followed us around looking to be held and played with. My daughter was able to milk a cow for the first time, and she thought it was so cool. We even got to try the milk right from the cow, such a cool experience ! All of the kids on the farm were very kind and generous. We liked interacting with them and learning their roles on the farm and each of their stories with the farm animals. We learned a lot from the kids. My daughter did not want to leave this place. Hopefully we will get to visit again soon !

Beautiful campsite right on the water!! We stayed at Site 3 for 2 nights. There was a lot of privacy between the other site, pretty secluded.. Nice open field, everything was maintained very well, marked clearly. Mixed of wooden surroundings with a small path down to the river. Had a chance to met the host, very welcoming. Would definitely return with no concerns.
