Cloverdale is an old, old lady. 170 years to be exact. She’s worn many masks over the years. As of 2022, she’s received another much needed facelift. Guests will now be able to use their own new private bathroom with a shower accessed thru the basement door in the back of the house. Learn more about this land: We’ve got a little 20 acre farm. This historic property has gently rolling hills and plenty of wildlife. Fields in the back lend a great view for star gazing and looking up at the Milky Way. If the peace and quiet isn’t enough for you, there’s two pet goats that love to play. Guests are more than welcome to help in the garden, pick flowers, and enjoy fresh produce and eggs while they’re here. Located 5 minutes from the James River, guests can hop over to the boat landing for fishing, swimming and boating or check out Blanton and Pleasants, a community staple. If you’re a hiker, there’s a state forest and state park just a short 15 minute drive west.

We are just over an hour north of Durham, NC, two hours southwest of Richmond, VA, and 30 minutes east of Danville, VA. Our property is 204 acres of beautiful wilderness, in an international Dark Sky zone (you can see the milky way on a clear night), where you can usually hear nothing other than the calls of the animals. The property is accessed via a half mile dirt and grass road that drops you off at the main camping area at the Old Tobacco Barn. From there you have access to a composting toilet and fire circle. Roughly half the property was cleared and is open and overgrown with brush. The other half of the property is various types and stages of forest, from young to old. We have 5 waterways that I have counted so far (it's a lot of land!), including 1.5 miles of Sandy Creek, which is more of a small river than a creek, beautiful swimmable natural springs, and a half acre pond (with beavers!). We have two kayaks that you can use on the pond, and you can bring tubes or kayaks and paddle down Sandy Creek all the way to Banister River a few miles downstream. Camping is available throughout the property, although you will see several marked and prepped sites along the road or in the woods. This is rustic camping, meaning that you can drive up to some camping sites, but others are off the road and require a bit of trekking through brush, trails, or woods. This area of the state is an international dark sky zone, and the views at night are glorious - the milky way is clearly visible, you can generally catch shooting stars with regularity on any clear night, and if you bring binoculars or a telescope, you have a clear view of most of the sky. If you enjoy wild plants, foraging, bird watching, tracking, or generally getting out into a natural space, then you will enjoy the diversity of the wildlife and plant life on the property. Animals that we have verified on the land include Deer (lots!), Racoons, Cayote, Turkey, Black Bear, Fox, and a large variety of birds and other critters that we haven't identified. We have house sized boulders along Sandy Creek that you can climb on, and the creek itself is clean and swimmable. There is lots to explore throughout the property and, most of all, it's a wonderful place to rest and relax out in nature. A few things to keep in mind: * The road is a dirt road, meaning that it turns muddy after it rains. Please be mindful of this and park at the front and walk in if it is raining or has rained the day before you arrive. Also, if it looks like it will rain while you are on site, you may want to move your vehicle to the front of the property to make it easier to get out when you leave. Having said that, the road is good and any car can drive it without issue when it is dry. * Smaller campers and trailers are welcome on the property as well, although we do not have a place to dump/empty your septic, so please take waste off site. * We do not have showers or potable water on site, so you will need to pack water in with you. This is rustic camping. * We do have a composting toilet - please drop a handful of wood shavings into the bucket when you are done. For folks who are comfortable doing so, please consider urinating outside rather than in the composting toilet. ;)

There is a cleared walkable path down to the lower end of our farm where you’ll find creeks that run through the property. With nearly 60 acres of private forest, you can hike and explore, or spend time on one of the grassy knolls we have cleared. You can enjoy swimming or even just a quick dip in the creeks on our property and hiking just 600 feet from campsites. If you're looking for a nearby adventure, Holliday Lake State Park, Bear Creek State Park and the James River are all close by and are great spots to go rafting or tubing! Historic Scottsville is just up the road where you can find restaurants, breweries, grocery stores if you need and more. Being in the Piedmont region, we also have quick access to multiple vineyards that make for a great day trip. There are opportunities to go swimming, hiking, kayaking, rafting, and visit wineries all within 20-60 miles of our property. There is really something for everyone to do!We're surrounded by working farms on all sides so, thankfully, the only noise is from a heard of sheep across the way, or some deer in the forest. It’s a truly peaceful outdoor getaway. As hosts, we typically greet our visitors at some point during their stay, though we are very happy to respect total privacy. We hope you enjoy the wonderful sunsets, creek access, and stars above as much as we do!About the Listing:Come pitch your tent or park your RV on our property and set up camp at the edge of our farm! We have a few other campsites, well-spaced apart, so you can expect to see other campers periodically throughout your stay in passing or in common areas such as the toilet. You will be able to enjoy privacy and all the serenity that the outdoors has to offer! There is cooking grate on the fire pit so you can cook up some delicious meals. We’d suggest bringing some camping chairs if you’re tent camping to enjoy your meals or your morning coffee, as we do not have a picnic table on site. You can also enjoy cozying up by the private campfire and toasting some marshmallows at sunset. We have potable well water for our campers as well as a shared double stall composting toilet for your comfort. The toilets are set up near the campsites for added convenience. Additional Details to Note:- Check-in is after 1pm and check-out is before 12pm- Things to bring: Everything you need to camp comfortably! Think: Swimsuit, bedding, towels, water vessel to get water from well, cooking supplies, etc. - We do not have wifi available on site and cell reception is spotty, especially for certain carriers. Thank you!** Our Historic expansive 30+ acre property offers pastoral views and sounds of farm life with two accommodations (check out our bungalow). The cottage has one bedroom with a queen sized bed and freshly clean sheets, full bathroom, tiled walk-in shower, kitchen with refrigerator, stove top oven, microwave, coffee maker, hot water kettle, blender, toaster, and four complete setting of plates glasses, cups and silver flatware, and all cooking utensils and pots and pans. Dish soap is provided. Nicely furnished with queen size pull-out sofa, four seat cafe-style dining table. Ceiling fans in every room. Great natural lighting in every room as well as french doors throughout. The expansive front porch has two ceiling fans and wicker furniture for sitting. The Property: Miles of walking trails in the back with creeks that run adjacent to our mineral springs throughout our property. Say hello to our animals-We are home to many exotic chickens, ducks, Pygmy goats, dairy goats, mini pigs, horses and many Great Pyrenees. Guest access: Free parking right beside the unit. If you need boat, RV or Trailer parking there is space for that as well. Please note: check in time is 3pm, check out time is 10am. We do not offer early check in or late check out. We have Starlink WIFI. If you require consistent internet access -please be aware-our internet can be spotty/dependent upon weather conditions that are outside of our control-we are in a rural area and we love it! However, it may not be for everyone. If you require constant connection to the internet our place is not for you. There is a plaque on the bedside table where the server name and password are written. The thermostat is located behind the bedroom door. It’s a normal, modern Carrier HVAC unit installed Oct. 2022; it’s easy to adjust temperature up or down using the two arrow buttons. If you have any trouble finding it or operating it please contact us! We will leave the place unlocked with the lights on. Please enjoy your stay!

Impressive luxury feel! Comfortable bedding, beautiful design, full house bathroom (separated by locked door from rest of home), and bus bathroom for #1. Electricity and running water in the bus, and a flipbook with the origin story of the bus, and restaurant recs including Hidden Wit Brewery where we enjoyed music bingo while the kids ran around a play yard with new friends. A peaceful trail on the property. Recommend!

Elena was very hospitable. She has a great place, welcomed me into her house for the bathroom. She even offered to share some of a meal with me that was prepared, which I did not expect, and I was grateful for it. The greenhouse is nice. She has different things to use if you need them, like tarps, and other things. And there was indeed a good view of the stars out here. I couldn't ask for a better or kinder host. Will be coming again.

My girlfriend and I came for the weekend with our dog, and I would 100% recommend. The decor on the inside of the bus was beautiful. All the necessities (dishes, towels, etc.) were provided. We used the pass for Pocahontas park, the closest parking was 5 minutes away and had some really nice trails. Claire even met us when we arrived and gave us some fresh eggs!

Our skoolie is the perfect basecamp for outdoor adventures-30 minutes to Richmond and 5 minutes from the nearest trailhead at Pocahontas State Park with pass included. Our skoolie comes equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, but please read the full description to make sure this is the right experience for you! Please note the interior height is only 6 feet. *We are located in the woods with ticks, bugs, and other wildlife. We have provided bug spray and highly recommend you treat your dogs for ticks before arriving. *Beds Queen-sized bed in the back and the couch bed folds to a size slightly smaller than a full mattress, with bedding included. The bus will sleep 3 comfortably, 4 if you really like each other! *Full Kitchen Gas stove top. All kitchen utensils included. Kitchen sink with hot water and a 7 gallon jug underneath the sink that you will need to empty if full. *Bus Bathroom Composting toilet- for urinating only. *Main House Full Bathroom Full bathroom, shower, and laundry. If you are not comfortable with a 150ft walk to use the bathroom facilities, this may not be the ideal booking for you. *Electricity Has 2 USB outlets and a standard wall outlet. Try to charge your electronics during the day due to the solar panels, and do not use the wall outlet at night. Wifi is available. *Heating/Cooling A/C unit for summer.
