Creekside Cool Bus

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Chesterfield, VA
Experience the ultimate glamping adventure in our converted school bus! Nestled on 5 acres of land, the campsite features lush woods and a creek. Enjoy the peace and quiet of nature with the comfort of a home away from home. Whether you are looking to relax and unwind or seeking an outdoor getaway, you’re sure to find it here! Our skoolie is the perfect basecamp for outdoor adventures-30 minutes to Richmond and 5 minutes from the nearest trailhead at Pocahontas State Park with pass included. ——— The space Our fully functional skoolie comes equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, but please read the full description of this space and property to make sure this is the right experience for you! We would like everyone to be aware that it does get chilly inside the bus depending on the weather. While the bus is insulated, we do lose a lot of heat through the windows and floor. *Beds* Comfortable queen-sized bed in the back. The couch folds down into a bed slightly smaller than a full size mattress. We have bedding included for both beds. The bus will sleep 3 comfortably, 4 if you really like each other! *Full Kitchen* Gas stove top inside the bus (back burner knob removed for fire safety). Pots, pans, plates, bowls, utensils, storage containers, and coffee maker/french press are all included. Pantry space to store your food. RV fridge and freezer. Small kitchen sink with hot water and a 7 gallon water tank underneath the sink that you will need to empty if full. *Bathroom* Features a skylight window. While it is a fully functional bathroom, we prefer you to use the main house bathroom for all your needs. There is a Nature’s Head composting toilet, with instructions included. We ask you to use the bus bathroom for urinating only. *Main House Full Bathroom* You have access to a full bathroom, shower, and laundry in a side door of the main house. We encourage you to utilize this space. The owners of the house also use this space for laundry, but it is closed off from the rest of the house to ensure privacy. *Heating/Cooling* Portable A/C and heating unit on bus (currently being sent in for repair). A small space heater has been provided in the meantime that works well to keep the bus warm in winter. Also has a wood burning stove, with firestarters and wood for the stove included. In the winter, it could still be a bit cold on the bus so we encourage you to bring extra blankets and clothing depending on the weather. Maxxair Fan and personal fans for your use are provided. *Outdoors* Includes a deck with a small seating area, picnic table to enjoy your meals, and a portable propane grill for your use. Enjoy a campfire in the private fire ring. There is plenty of firewood to collect in the woods. Look for the gnome and follow the walking trail from the campsite to explore the creek and more of the backyard. *Electricity* While the bus has solar panels and a battery bank to be completely off-grid, it is hooked up to shore power for your convenience. Has 2 USB outlets and a standard wall outlet. Wifi is available with high downloading speeds. *Pets* All pets are welcome! Please keep in mind that there are two dogs on the property contained to the yard by an electric invisible fence. The dogs are not able to access the campsite. We ask that you keep your pup on a leash unless it is well trained and can stay in the campsite area and away from our pets. *Extra Guests* We allow a maximum of 4 guests to stay inside the bus. For a fee, you can have extra guests stay with you in a tent outside. Please let us know before booking if you will be bringing extra guests. ——— Guest access You will need to drive on grass and through the backyard to access the school bus. There is parking right next to the campsite. We will be respectful of your space and privacy, but with that being said we like to grill out and hang out on the back deck pretty often so feel free to come over and chat. ——— Other things to note The interior height of the bus is only 6 feet so please note that it could be a bit cramped for taller individuals. We will be on the property in case you have questions.

Collective Spaces

5 sites · Tents204 acres · Nathalie, VA
We are just over an hour north of Durham, NC, two hours southwest of Richmond, VA, and 30 minutes east of Danville, VA. Our property is 204 acres of beautiful wilderness, in an international Dark Sky zone (you can see the milky way on an average night), where you can usually hear nothing other than the calls of the animals. The property is accessed via a half mile dirt and grass road that drops you off at the main camping area at the Old Tobacco Barn. From there you have access to a composting toilet and fire circle. The previous owners clear cut half the property and we are currently working on cleaning and restoring the land that they damaged. The other half of the property is various types and stages of forest, from young to old. We have 5 waterways that I have counted so far (it's a lot of land!), including 1.5 miles of Sandy Creek, which is more of a small river than a creek, beautiful swimmable natural springs, and a half acre pond (with beavers!). We have two kayaks that you can use on the pond, and you can bring tubes or kayaks and paddle down Sandy Creek all the way to Banister River a few miles downstream. Camping is available throughout the property, although you will see several marked and prepped sites along the road or in the woods. This is rustic camping, meaning that you can drive up to some camping sites, but others are off the road and require a bit of trekking through brush, trails, or woods. This area of the state is an international dark sky zone, and the views at night are glorious - the milky way is clearly visible, you can generally catch shooting stars with regularity on any clear night, and if you bring binoculars or a telescope, you have a clear view of most of the sky. If you enjoy wild plants, foraging, bird watching, tracking, or generally getting out into a natural space, then you will enjoy the diversity of the wildlife and plant life on the property. We have house sized boulders along Sandy Creek that you can climb on, and the creek itself is clean and swimmable. There is lots to explore throughout the property and, most of all, it's a wonderful place to rest and relax out in nature. A few things to keep in mind: The road is a dirt road, meaning that it turns muddy after it rains. Please be mindful of this and park at the front and walk in if it is raining or has rained the day before you arrive. Also, if it looks like it will rain while you are on site, you may want to move your vehicle to the front of the property to make it easier to get out when you leave. Having said that, the road is good and any car can drive it without issue when it is dry. Campers and trailers are welcome on the property as well, although we do not have a place to dump/empty your septic, so please take waste off site. We do not have showers or potable water on site, so you will need to pack water in with you. This is rustic camping. We do have a composting toilet - please drop a handful of wood shavings into the bucket when you are done. For folks who are comfortable doing so, please consider urinating outside rather than in the composting toilet. ;)
