This is a rustic little spot about 15 minutes off Rt. 460 in central VA. No amenities, so bring everything you will need, but Merritt was responsive and quite hospitable. The land is privately located among a small hardwood tree grove, but has nice pond views to one side and fields on 2 other sides. Merritt and his wife are lovely people and fascinating to talk to.

What a charming and peaceful property! They have the sweetest animals and a beautiful garden. It was nice to have a restroom and shower nearby. Great spacious camp site. We really appreciated the canopy that was set up for us because the sun was hot during the day, and there was plenty of firewood available to keep us warm at night. Karen made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we needed, including jumper cables when one of our cars wouldn’t start. AMAZING spot for stargazing!

The campsites were fantastic. Water pressure was wonderful. 30 and 50 amp hook ups beautiful bathhouse. Trails to explore for Miles. Wonderful access to a nice shallow spot on the James River. Great for swimming, putting in your kayak or tube. You will also notice the remnants of a larger infrastructure that was once a private school campus. This campground is definitely a hidden gem!
Tons of space, full hookups, trails, and a great place for family gatherings. We were at site 11 which was secluded and facing the trees. The bathhouse was adorable with plenty of space. They have a gazebo with lots of picnic tables perfect for parties. The grassy area between the campground and the gazebo is big enough for multiple games of soccer / badminton / volleyball …anything you can think of. There’s hiking, the James River and what appears to be a dog washing area. Also a community fire pit. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful and quiet. I host was quick to answer any questions we had.
Getting there: The hosts directions are very clear and get you to the site with no problems. The cinder roads in and out are well maintained If it is your first trip I do recommend going during daylight. Be on the lookout for deer they are everywhere. And there is one way in and one way out.
Campsite: Sites are all parallel pull through starting with #1 as the first site. I recommend turning left at site 1 and driving around to the back because of the angle. Each site has a fire ring and a table. Note there is no lighting. Each site has water, sewage and electricity; the power boxes have plug ins for 20, 30 & 50 amps (unless noted). There are well kept bath houses at the pavilion located about 75 yards away.
Activities: There is lots of trails for walking, hiking and bicycling. There is a lot to see including wildlife and some of the buildings from years gone by. Although you are out in the middle of nowhere, it’s a quick trip to the highway and close to local shops and stores as well as close to Midlothian and Richmond.
Overall: This was a great break from it all. I loved the quiet and I definitely look forward to returning again.

There many words that can describe this place but one that quickly comes to mind is Magical! This hidden gem in Powhatan county has so much to offer for outdoor enthusiasts and even if you’re just looking to escape the busy city life and have a more slow pace and peaceful rejuvenation this is definitely the place to be! All the RV spots are gravel but leveled , full hookups, pull-thru and have fire ring and picnic table. The added bonus is the shelter with several picnic tables, grill and bathroom with flush toilets and showers if needed! Now it is in the middle of nowhere, so I would recommend to bring all the items you’re going to need for the duration of the trip (including bug spray). Cell service wasn’t too bad, I have Verizon and was able to get minimal 3 bars consistently. Overall I enjoyed my stay and cannot wait to come back here soon!

We caught pickerel, bluegill, and crappie in his lake.

Nice quiet camp site. We happened to have the whole place to ourselves. As “dark sky” as you’ll get this close to Richmond and wide open so the view of the stars was perfect. Jessica was a responsive host and answered our questions quickly. The kids had a great time exploring the property. Good alternative to the State Parks near-by.

Elena was very hospitable. She has a great place, welcomed me into her house for the bathroom. She even offered to share some of a meal with me that was prepared, which I did not expect, and I was grateful for it.
The greenhouse is nice. She has different things to use if you need them, like tarps, and other things. And there was indeed a good view of the stars out here. I couldn't ask for a better or kinder host. Will be coming again.
