Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The Rockfish River dam and quarry gardens are really cool too!

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping! This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping! This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations. Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse. River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.

Great camping spot at Site 1, it over looks the valley behind the property is gorgeous to wake up to. As the description says, you definitely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get up the hill. It takes someone spotting, but you can navigate through the trees to get your vehicle directly at the site. We arrived in the evening and in the dark it was a challenge. There is a portapotty/outhouse as far as amenities, but no running water at the site. Bring water with you to avoid a long walk. I would absolutely come back and stay again!

We had a wonderful experience! Fran was lovely when we checked in and out! Buddy and Ally (the dogs) kept us company throughout the night and made us feel secure! Mr. Duck and the various cats were also lovely to meet! We were the only campers that night, so it felt very private. Just a heads up that most campsites are directly next to another campsite! I would definitely come back with a larger group and reserve two adjacent campgrounds!

Peace like a river, love like a mountain Wintergreen Resort we’re not, but if you’re looking for a cozy (800-900 sq. ft.) mountain cabin with most of the comforts of home, Rocky Run Landing might be the place for you. Our motto is “You’re a long way away from it all before you ever get here.” Rocky Run Landing sits back in a loblolly pine grove just under the crest of Hawk Ridge in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin is two miles up the Tye River from the village of Norwood and the James River in southern Nelson County, Virginia. The address is 3124 Cedar Creek Road, Arrington, VA 22922. The cabin has a telephone, but no long distance service. Your calling card will work with this phone. You’ll have to find just the right spot to use your cell phone. Wireless internet is available via satellite. Rocky Run Landing consists of a small first-floor bedroom, a small loft bedroom, a bath and a half, kitchen/dining area, and a great room. The great room has two sleep futons, chairs, and a small TV/DVR with cable. A wood stove is also in the great room. The small kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, deep sink, gas range, coffeemaker, and microwave oven. A dining table and four chairs are provided, along with basic pots, pans, and tableware. Rocky Run Landing has central HVAC, but often all you need are the ceiling and pedestal fans. The best experience is al fresco! The small first floor bedroom features a queen bed, nightstand and lamp, and a chest of drawers. Bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are also provided. The half-bath is off this bedroom and adjoins the full bath. Electric wall heaters provide auxiliary heat in the bedroom and bathrooms. The bedroom also has a couple of very small closets, which are the only clothes closets in the cabin. The staircase to the small loft is very steep and is not recommended for older guests or the very young. The loft is furnished with a double bed. A hiking trail and a gravel road will take you the 1/3-mile to the Tye River, but be warned — both are steep. You’ll need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to drive to the river. You’ll need good legs to walk back to the cabin. By the riverside you'll find a well-groomed recreation area with picnic tables shaded by a canopy of white ash and river birch, a fire ring, and, in the summer, even a porta-potty. A 'beach' is cleared to the river. At normal water levels, this spot on the Tye is appropriate for supervised child's play and for adult water recreation. Fishing is also fine! History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). The screened porch offers a serene view of Buffalo Ridge to the south across the river (if the leaves aren't too thick). Turn on the porch ceiling fans, relax in the porch swing, and whistle back to the whippoorwills. As the evening gets quiet, let the roar of the Tye River rapids lull you to sleep. If you decide you’d like to forgo seclusion and venture into the outside world during your stay, many places of interest are within a day trip of Rocky Run Landing. Jeffersonian and other historic properties abound, Civil War sites are easily accessible, Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of activities, and kid-friendly excursions are within kid-tolerance driving distance. Your hosts will be happy to recommend itineraries based on your interests and will check with Wintergreen to ensure any desired activity is available. Many wineries, breweries, and cideries are also in the area, along with local artisan shops. If camping with an RV/camper, please note we offer 30 and 50 amp power at each site. Finally, please note that we are a campground under new ownership and we will be making improvements as we go (tree trimming, seeding, plumbing, etc.)! Please excuse any noise or mess. We will do our best to schedule our maintenance away from your campsite, but it may be in the vicinity.  OUR LOCATION: Goshen's location is extremely convenient, with the cities of Lexington and Staunton just a short drive away. Day trips to Lynchburg and Roanoke are also easily done from Goshen. Douthat State Park and the Goshen Pass are nearby as well. We recommend the Goshen Pass as the best swimming hole around! OUR HISTORY: In addition to being a beautiful and serene place to be, Cold Sulphur Springs has a wonderful history that can be re-imagined just by stepping on site. The Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground dates back to at least the mid-late 1800s, when it was a large, flourishing resort frequented by travelers from near and far. In its heyday, the resort bustled with more than 250 guests who often spent entire summers there playing croquet and enjoying orchestra concerts at the hotel dance hall. They would arrive at the Goshen train station and be brought to the resort by horse and buggy, greeted with ice cold lemonade. Those who visited Cold Sulphur Springs, doctors especially, attributed miraculous medicinal benefits to the water, recommending it as a cure for a variety of ailments and encouraging patients to visit.  However, the 1900s brought the onset of World War I and the advent of the automobile, allowing Americans to travel freely to a variety of locations without the need to summer for months at one resort. These factors caused the hotel at Cold Sulphur Springs to lose patrons and eventually meet its demise through fire and other means of destruction. Today, the grounds provide a simpler kind of hospitality. Cold Sulphur Springs is a place for travelers from all walks of life to camp, fish, swim, boat, hike, and more. While little remains of the old hotel, the historic Spring House is still in tact at the campground, as are some remnants of original building foundations. Please note the springs are not accessible for guest use. We invite you to explore the wonder that is the Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground and see the beauty that lies within.
