We hosted a 7-person retreat here and it was absolutely magical. The property feels like a sanctuary—hammocks by the waterfall, butterflies everywhere, and plenty of space to do powerful, grounding work in nature. A short hike up the falls is well worth it, and you can even catch glimpses of Crabtree Falls from part of the land.
It’s also easy to slip away to quiet spots along the Tye River for peaceful reflection. The lack of cell service turned out to be a gift, allowing everyone to be fully present and unplugged.
We can’t wait to come back and see how the space continues to grow after construction—it’s already such a special place. Highly recommend for anyone seeking rest, connection, or a nature-based retreat!

One of our favorite HipCamp destinations- just finished our third stay here. Beautiful setting, nestled in the woods next to a rushing stream and a waterfall. Totally off grid - cancel all calls and turn off the phone. Bring a good book or plan to hike the abundant nearby trails, especially Crabtree Falls. The ultimate in forest bathing.
Best for self contained campers; the only amenities are a fire pit, a tent platform (sans tent) and a plank for a shelf/table.

Another perfect weekend at Meili Mtn. How can you go wrong with an idyllic natural setting, total privacy and off the grid location ? Oh yeah, it was ten degrees cooler than northern Virginia! For those addicted to connectivity you can drive 30 minutes to the brewery to get your fix.

Great location near crabtree falls and the Priest Mountain and Spy Rock area. The land is beautiful the waterfall is amazing. Hard to beat that with the benefit of privacy. The wildlife camera is to the left of the shed for finding and covering - i’m not sure if there is one by the waterfall it’s hard to find if there is. The waterfall pool is deep enough to lounge in on a hot day. One of my favorite spots I have camped.

What a great spot! Highlights include your own personal waterfall, a tent platform, plenty of firewood, and the sounds to of the nearby creek and waterfall to sing you to sleep at night. Plus it's right around the bend from the Crabtree Falls trailhead so you can easily get an early start.

Such an incredible spot! Cool to have such a unique space to yourself - my pup had a blast running up and down the mountains and playing in the water. Site was clean and private. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and not too far from some cool breweries/distilleries/restaurants. Highly recommend this spot if you don't mind not having facilities. Already thinking about going back!!

So beautiful, so private, We retreated here when the temps in DC approached 100 degrees. And weren’t disappointed. The pool below he falls is chilly but worth the walk. Recommend hanging your hammock up by the falls for the best nap you’ll ever have! We had plans to explore but couldn’t drag ourselves away from this property.

I am a repeat customer and absolutely love this little slice of heaven. Beautiful property located in close proximity to many awesome hikes and close enough to travel to local breweries and vineyards. No electricity and no cell service might be a downside for some but easy enough to prepare in advance for and gives you a great excuse to unplug and recharge. Host is always kind and responsive.

I liked that the area is private so you felt secluded. You can explore farther into the property and there’s a nice creek that runs through it with a small waterfall. The area where it is recommend you sleep is literally within throwing distance of the road, but after dark there’s only a handful of cars that drive by. I will say for $60 it seems pretty steep for what you get. Besides the wooden pallet to sleep on there’s a fire pit and that’s it. A picnic table or some chairs would be nice. The shed pictured is not for use. He does have these trail cameras around the property too, one of which is directly aimed at where you sleep. He does mention this and says you can cover them, but just seems kinda odd to need a camera aimed at where guest are going to sleep.

We loved our one-night stay here. The property is gorgeous and well maintained. We did a polar plunge in the waterfall pool in the morning as the fall foliage surrounded us. We would definitely return and recommend others to check it out!

Meili Mountain is a wonderfully situated property right next to the iconic Crabtree falls. I camped at the sight with the shed and had a great one-night stay surrounded by the changing autumn foliage. Would love to come back again.

Cool spot!! You can barely see the road from the campsite, however, there was hardly any cars/trucks going by. We decided to follow the river. Hiked/climbed up for over 2 hours! It was quite the adventure and maybe not the safest thing to do but we had a blast.
Absolutely no cell phone reception so we downloaded some scary movies to watch in the tent.
Drive to Devils backbone brewery for dinner one of the nights, the hot wings were delicious.
The flattest spot for your tent is going to be
the platform in front of the shed. Bring decent pads.

I camped here for 2 days with my dogs, they loved exploring the creek and basking on the platform deck! Just 5 min from a really nice convenient store, and 5 min the other way from Crabtree Falls trailhead. The road is visible from the shed/firepit but around the corner back by the waterfall you can’t hear anything else so it’s very peaceful. I can tell the land is still undergoing improvements and has a ton of potential! If you are able to scramble up to the top of the waterfall, there is another little pool at the top too. Theres little fish in the bottom pool and crayfish in the stream as well. All i needed was some firestarter and scavenged plenty of fallen wood from the surrounding area.

This was a great location to enjoy peace and solitude for an overnight stay. The waterfall was beautiful and we loved hiking on the mountain property even though it was a little steep. There are an abundance of places close to the area to hike and enjoy. We received a welcome email that had several great recommendations for hiking, eating and whatever else you could imagine. It was so much better than I expected and really want to come back! A pleasant surprise that I know others will enjoy. I would recommend bringing a cot or mattress pad if you camp on the platform.

This was such a wonderful, private spot. We used it as a special location for our elopement session. The waterfall is really close to the main part of the property which made it easy to get to and a great backdrop for wedding photos. We hope to come back in the near future to camp too. Jim was an absolutely fantastic host! He gave us tips and tricks. Made finding the location much easier with detailed instructions. And very responsive! We are very grateful for the hospitality.

We have camped all over the place this summer, and this was by far our favorite experience. To spend a weekend with my family in such a beautiful& peaceful place - nothing better. This is my second time staying at Meili mnt. Tye River Waterfall. I love this spot so much. It’s centrally located near spy rock and Crabtree falls and you can hop on the AT and do some very scenic hiking or just enjoy your own personal waterfall right at your campsite. The host is very responsive and helpful and I couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful off-grid weekend.

We admittedly had a little trouble finding the place (maybe a flag or some kind of marker would help). Jim was great and got us to the site. Part of the appeal of this spot: is that it’s out of the way and you’ll have it to yourselves. You’ll also be off grid as nearest cell reception is about 6 miles away. The site was stunning. Nestled by an active creek with cascading falls and dappled sunlight. A short walk away is a stunning 40 ft waterfall where you can set up your hammock for the duration, as we did. One note about the site- there are large rocks and the tent platform for staging but if you require a table you’ll need to bring one. We would most definitely camp here again.

Second time at the property and it was a wonderful time. Lovely location very close to Crabtree Falls and St. Mary wilderness but with a beautiful waterfall on the property you never have to leave.
Great communication and easy directions this spot won’t disappoint. one piece of advice if you choose to use the platform to set your tent on do bring a air mattress or cot, otherwise the ground is fine and there are good hammock spots too. Will be back.

You'll be glad you camped here. The waterfall is amazing, as are the rocks and pools you can sit in. The site itself has lots of good, accessible short hikes around it. This is a very easy spot to get settled in and enjoy - especially if you hammock camp. The host is very friendly and helpful. I look forward to visiting again and seeing additional improvements. Can not recommend it more!
