Only 15 minutes from the Swift Run Gap Entrance to the Shenandoah National Park our farm has a mountain feel.
Our 17 acre slice of heaven is tucked back off the county road and up against the little chapman mountain. Large white oaks and Tulip Poplar trees are the main attraction along with the Mayapples in spring and the fall colors are terrific.
The campsites are in the woods and around the field a good distance away from the house. There are walking trails and a pond and a hammock for relaxing, close to great hiking, summits and waterfalls, 50 minutes to Old Rag. Many local wineries to discover and many historical sites including Montpelier and Monticello and Charlottesville and UVA.
Come on the 3rd Saturday to see Tom perform on his banjo at the local Farmers Market.

My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors
We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases.
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Currently 2WD is okay and some clearance preferred like Outback sized vehicles over all. A van can fit in site #3 (The Vanner) but will take a multi point turns to come and go. Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm!
Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.
The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries.

About 2/3rds of the property is developed with barns and fenced pastures and the other third is largely undeveloped areas with a loop driveway where most of the camp sites are located. We stayed here during the first week of May and had a wonderful experience. The family who owns the farm was incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our stay. They made us feel very comfortable and were happy to let us wander the farm and interact with the animals, which was a huge highlight for our two young kids. We camped with another family who also had young children, and everyone had a great time.
The campsite itself was very enjoyable, and having a composting toilet nearby was definitely a nice convenience.
A couple practical things future campers may want to know:
The campsite is about a one-minute walk from the parking area, including a small hill, so just be prepared if you plan to store food or gear in your vehicle during your stay.
Since you’re camping next to a working farm, expect animal noises during the day and occasionally at night as well.
There is also a road somewhere in the distance (maybe about a quarter mile away), and at night when everything else is quiet, you can sometimes hear light traffic noise.
Overall, we had a really fun and memorable stay and would absolutely recommend it to other families looking for a unique farm camping experience.

The campground was well kept and had a lot of free firewood for us to use, Taz also took care of a wasp nest for us once we mentioned it to them. Will highly recommend this place. Also sidenote bring earplugs or headphones if you're going to sleep, the roads nearby are a sometimes busy at night.

Had a great time! Was originally booked for site 3, but after looking at reviews and wanting easier water access and seeing site 2 was open, the host was very kind and switched our sites a few days prior. Site 2 was flat, spacious, and private. Getting down to the water was a little tricky especially if you are carrying belongings, but after a time or two you get the hang of it. There is a rope attached to a tree that you hold onto as you go down the side of the hill. We caught 11 fish during our two day trip, great fishing spot! Highly recommend!

A beautiful mountain escape backing right up to Shenandoah National Park. The setting alone makes this place feel special, and the cabin absolutely lives up to it.
The drive in is about 15 minutes along a dirt road with a steeper final stretch, but it’s very manageable and worth it for the privacy. You’re also only about 25 minutes from the Swift Run Gap entrance, making park access easy.
The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The mountain themed decor made it feel warm and inviting, the cots were surprisingly comfortable, and having dog beds already there was a huge bonus. Our dogs loved it.
If the upper tent campsite isn’t booked, which you can reserve as well, you might have the opportunity to hike the half mile trail up to it and take in a gorgeous overlook. It’s about a 30 minute uphill hike with roughly 500 feet of elevation gain and well worth it. We stayed during some on and off rain and still had a great trip. Even without a view at the top, it was still a really enjoyable hike.
The nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away in Stanardsville at the Greene Great Valu, which was convenient for anything we needed.
Make sure to check out South River Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Shenandoah National Park.
Overall, a peaceful and scenic stay. We would definitely come back!

Camping on Jennifer’s land was amazing. We stayed at the Butterfly camp and it was so peaceful and relaxing. We have a mini van and camped in the back of it. The driveway is steep but our van navigated it just fine. Jennifer is very nice and helpful. We even got a visit from one of her farm dogs at our site.

An unbelievable spot.
The road that leads to the property is rocky but doable in any car if you take a slow. The driveway up is a different story but Dave planned for this and the alternative only added a bit more steps to the journey. The hike up the mountain is steep with about 500 elevation gain in a little over half a mile. The yellow arrows he added really helped. And the view is unbeatable!

Awesome camp site, you definitely need 4wd, the dirt road to get there is 2 miles long and pretty rocky. The site was amazing though and super quiet and peaceful
