Mane Gait is conveniently located right off route 81 and can accommodate large rigs. You won't find better views of the blue ridge mountains on this gorgeous working horse farm. We have hiking trails through beautiful private scenery for beginners to advanced hikers. Pets are welcome if leashed! Picnic area on site as well as laundry machine. We are 10 minutes from downtown historic Lexington Virginia that provides great restaurants and lots of history in the charming town of Lexington. Site 2 should be booked for smaller campers around 25 feet. Site 1 is better for larger campers. Bathroom is located through the barn just past the white gazebo, first door on the right.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Located on a 7 acre homestead near the Blueridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and Lynchburg, VA.
The cabin is located on an old apple orchard and budding homestead. It is off-grid and powered by solar. It is a short walk from the parking area (75 steps uphill). The cabin is one room with a kitchenette, hot outdoor shower, and outdoor compost toilet. The cabin can sleep up to three people with a queen bed, futon, and pullout couch. The kitchen includes a gas range, mini fridge, a sink with running water, and basic kitchen cook wear. A propane heater is available for extra warmth on a chilly night. A shelf equipped with books and board games. A propane grill sits on the front porch, and a fire pit out front. The hot outdoor shower and compost toilet are 25 steps from the front door tucked into the tree line. The pond sits in front of the cabin, a picnic table sets by the edge.
We love living simply, and immersed in nature, and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. Maybe you will too! You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frog chorus, and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks.
Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping.
We are a growing homestead. We are planting fruits trees, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, raising ducks and tending gardens here and have farm fresh products that are seasonally available to guests just ask!

Located 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian trail is a small camping area with a bathhouse that includes a toilet and hot shower. A mountain stream rushes through the campground providing a peaceful and tranquil stay. During the months of November through May I can stock the stream with rainbow trout during your stay. Book a stocking through the hipcamp app experiences for for $55 a day 6 fish limit. Outside enjoy a shady relaxing nap next to the stream. Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.
Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent.
Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids.
Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them.

We are an officially permitted and licensed, by the State of Virginia, campground.

We have a Charcoal Grill (includes spatula, tongs and turning fork) available to rent for $10 (fee is for entire length of stay).
Come camp on the peaceful banks of the Cowpasture river. This is a great place to come to get away from the noise and just relax. The river depth along the property ranges from a few inches to 6ft. Most sites offer partial shade. Open field area for playing games. Large communal fire pit beside the river. We also have a communal Shelter that has two booth style tables under it.
Nearby places of interest including Falling Springs waterfall, Humpback Bridge, Lake Moomaw, Douthat State Park...all within less than an hours drive.
Only a few minutes from the closest town, incase you need food, supplies, fuel, etc.

Come camp at the top of the mountain on our private, undeveloped land. You’ll have access to miles of trails through wildflower meadows, old-growth forest, and ridgeline views. The site is peaceful, remote, and surrounded by native plants and wildlife.
This is a primitive campsite — there’s no running water, buildings, or electricity. It’s best suited for campers comfortable with a backcountry setup who want quiet, privacy, and natural beauty.
4WD Access Required:
The campsite is located at the top of a mountain. You’ll need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to access it. Though we are happy to arrange a shuttle for your gear with advance notice.
Water:
There is a year-round creek nearby with non-potable water. Perfect for rinsing off or washing dishes. Bring your own drinking water or a filter. 6 gallons of water will be left at the campsite to put out the fire or wash your hands.
Firewood Provided:
We supply firewood for each stay. Bring your own firestarter or lighter.
⚠️Please don't bring in firewood, it can introduce pest and pathogens harmful to the forest.
Trash Drop-Off:
Please pack out your trash. A drop-off point is available at the base of the mountain near the exit.
Cell Service:
Cell signal is strong at the campsite but I encourage you to unplug and take in the surroundings (P.S. The pictures don't do the land justice!)
Wildlife:
This is a natural, wooded area. Expect to see birds, deer, and maybe raccoons. Bears are uncommon but possible — store food securely and follow Leave No Trace practices.
No Bathroom On-Site:
You’ll need to bring a portable toilet, dig a cat hole, or use a wag bag system. Please be respectful of the land and other future guests.
Seclusion & Stargazing:
You’ll have plenty of space and privacy. On clear nights, the sky opens up, making it perfect for stargazing. There’s very little light pollution here and from late summer through early fall, the Milky Way is visible overhead.
You’ll see different native plants and wild edibles depending on the time of the year.

Thank you for a great week at Swedish Lilac Campground! Site 15 was great! We were led to our site and Fritz made sure we were happy with our set up. We were able to pull our camper in front of the creek (instead of backing in to the space) that runs there and listen to the water while we burned a fire and ate dinner, Just beautiful! The bathrooms are spotless and the campgrounds are very clean, he left us firewood and was very friendly! They collect your trash and offer more wood. They have a dump station too.

The lower pond camp site is so peaceful. You’re set up so that you are nestled by a babbling brook/creek on one side and a pond on the other!
We were lucky to have the campsite next to us empty, so it was very private. However, even if there were campers, there is plenty of space for each site and lots of trees for privacy.
Buddy the dog was a *huge* highlight-so polite and gentle. My little Shih Tzu is a bit grumpy, and Buddy would always look to me, like, can I come visit and would always give our girl space. One night it was time to go to bed and I just told him, “go on home” a couple of times and he listened!
The stream was so crisp and there is a rope swing to try to get to the other side! Bathrooms were a huge bonus and the showers looked nice/we didn’t actually use.
Lots of sweet cats roaming, chicken, ducks, and turkeys. Lots of bullfrogs talking in the pond-didn’t bother us, but they do not stop throughout the night. Star gazing at the amphitheater was magical.
This stay at Arcadia was *exactly* what we wanted and can be just what you want as well-primitive or a little more “glam” if you try out the yurt. We would absolutely love to stay here again! Poppi at check-in was quite helpful and the whole stay was perfect!

This is truthfully one of my favorite campsites ever. It’s a beautiful spot. The sites are well maintained, communication was great, and I had no trouble finding the spot. Falling sleep to the sounds of the rapids after sitting in the wide open field star gazing. Incredible!
Only word of warning for anyone that’s not camped along a river in the mountains, there are train tracks & you will hear the trains. Luckily there seems to be no public crossings nearby so I never heard the train whistle!

Sarah's Hip Camp is in a most beautiful area of Virginia I had not yet traveled. Their property is just as beautiful and the tent site has a jaw dropping view of the distant mountains. They have carefully crafted numerous trails to hike and explore, all in complete visual privacy for your enjoyment. Sarah had the trails mowed, with firewood and a jug of water brought to the site prior to my arrival. My small front wheel drive Toyota had no trouble navigating the route to the mountain top tent site. There were three chairs, a table, small hammock, and excellent small ingenious home made fire pit at the site. Just realize this is woodsy Virginia and come prepared for insects. Find your best home made or store bought tick repellent. I used a mix of vinegar and neems oil in a spray bottle that seemed to minimize their attachment. Sarah was so gracious as to bring me a lint remover roller that seemed to quickly catch the smaller ticks. Not wearing clothes certainly helps you to perceive their movement across the hairs of your skin, unencumbered by fabric. I have found Thermacell to work great at excluding flying insects within a 30' diameter. Book your reservation and enjoy the quiet solitude of Sarah's piece of paradise.

We booked this very last minute and were so pleased! The sites are first come and each their own private bubble on the water; it’s such a clever and convenient setup. Grounds were clean. We were able to utilize the firewood available on site.
Since we did get there late in the evening, I was worried we’d creep up on other campers sites since we didn’t know which was taken, but my partner got out of the car and checked, so we didn’t disturb anyone.
Just a heads up, if you do set up in the evening (especially during warmer months), there are many, MANY bugs with it being by the river. I’d get a fire going before using any kind of light, because they will swarm.
Very lucky to have found this spot and will definitely stop by again if we’re ever in the vicinity.

Weekend Trip to Camping at Lazy River Farm
The Gypsy Rose and the land she sits on exceeded all expectations! A truly magical place and the love that Caroline and her family put into the Rose, the animals, and the land is very apparent.
Whether sitting outside admiring the views (the fireflies at night were amazing), napping in the Gypsy Rose, or swimming/floating/fishing in the river, everything we did was relaxing and beautiful.
Caroline and her family were beyond friendly and seemed happy to share their little corner of paradise with us. Absolutely recommend this spot!

Really enjoyed this camp site! It was awesome having a river access right from the site and had a great kayak float to the Glasgow boat ramp. Wendy was super helpful! The actual camp site was great, spacious and had privacy between camp sites! Would definitely recommend!

The views are absolutely worth it sun rise or sunset. Our host's were incredibly kind and genuine. Perfect if your looking for a night under the stars.

Adam communicated well before my stay. He met me at the front parking lot and took me to the site. Wonderful campsite The bath house was clean and hot water showers! Very peaceful and everyone adhered to the 10 p.m. quiet time rule. I will definitely be back

Beautiful site with a lovely host. If you're lucky you'll be joined by the friendly dogs and chickens roaming the site!
