We are just over an hour north of Durham, NC, two hours southwest of Richmond, VA, and 30 minutes east of Danville, VA. Our property is 204 acres of beautiful wilderness, in an international Dark Sky zone (you can see the milky way on a clear night), where you can usually hear nothing other than the calls of the animals.
The property is accessed via a half mile dirt and grass road that drops you off at the main camping area at the Old Tobacco Barn. From there you have access to a composting toilet and fire circle.
Roughly half the property was cleared and is open and overgrown with brush. The other half of the property is various types and stages of forest, from young to old.
We have 5 waterways that I have counted so far (it's a lot of land!), including 1.5 miles of Sandy Creek, which is more of a small river than a creek, beautiful swimmable natural springs, and a half acre pond (with beavers!). We have two kayaks that you can use on the pond, and you can bring tubes or kayaks and paddle down Sandy Creek all the way to Banister River a few miles downstream.
Camping is available throughout the property, although you will see several marked and prepped sites along the road or in the woods. This is rustic camping, meaning that you can drive up to some camping sites, but others are off the road and require a bit of trekking through brush, trails, or woods.
This area of the state is an international dark sky zone, and the views at night are glorious - the milky way is clearly visible, you can generally catch shooting stars with regularity on any clear night, and if you bring binoculars or a telescope, you have a clear view of most of the sky.
If you enjoy wild plants, foraging, bird watching, tracking, or generally getting out into a natural space, then you will enjoy the diversity of the wildlife and plant life on the property.
Animals that we have verified on the land include Deer (lots!), Racoons, Cayote, Turkey, Black Bear, Fox, and a large variety of birds and other critters that we haven't identified.
We have house sized boulders along Sandy Creek that you can climb on, and the creek itself is clean and swimmable. There is lots to explore throughout the property and, most of all, it's a wonderful place to rest and relax out in nature.
A few things to keep in mind:
* The road is a dirt road, meaning that it turns muddy after it rains. Please be mindful of this and park at the front and walk in if it is raining or has rained the day before you arrive. Also, if it looks like it will rain while you are on site, you may want to move your vehicle to the front of the property to make it easier to get out when you leave. Having said that, the road is good and any car can drive it without issue when it is dry.
* Smaller campers and trailers are welcome on the property as well, although we do not have a place to dump/empty your septic, so please take waste off site.
* We do not have showers or potable water on site, so you will need to pack water in with you. This is rustic camping.
* We do have a composting toilet - please drop a handful of wood shavings into the bucket when you are done. For folks who are comfortable doing so, please consider urinating outside rather than in the composting toilet. ;)

The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall!
Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants!
In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future.

Our 65 acre farm is secluded and peaceful. We have a small pond with catfish, bluegill, large mouth bass (catch and release only) and a gentle creek. We have chickens, sheep, a pig, cows and diary goats. Enjoy a walk down to the pond and take a picture by the old farm house (from the early 1800's) or explore history in the cemetery. Sheila was so friendly and very responsive when communicating. Her dogs are phenomenal, they are so sweet and great with kids. While we didn't get to tour the farm much because we were so busy with other items Shelia offered and was willing to accommodate my schedule. Peeking at the animals they were all so cute.

Gorgeous place! Very well thought out. I had a great time. Everything was clean, felt brand new, and I loved having the golf cart. They even added a little “swimming pool” - depth of water is about thigh high but it was so refreshing and my dog loved cooling down.

Amy was incredible from the small the humongous of problems, when we got there, I tried setting up my new tent which surprise was broken from the gate, (should have checked it before in hind sight) and Amy brought out options to borrow. She saved me from utter destruction! The camp ground was so amazing, the She shed is this boundless space with so much love for everyone who comes. It has charging space, refrigerator , place to hangout, cool knickknacks, and other camping supplies. There is a public pool that is open 24hrs, just personally I respect no noise after 11pm because it’s attached to Amy’s home. There was a Goat pen where you can feed and pet them! An after dark black light trail and for those dedicated to find the surprise at the end, a suspended swing over looking the creek. There was multiple retreat type spaces that are communal and from my friends who came, over and over they expressed how magical these spaces and the whole campground is. As many reviews have said, there was never a moment that could have gone wrong because Amy was always there to make it better . She is always checking in and supporting our camping adventure.
