Hiking opportunities abound as Luray is the closest town to the Thornton Gap entrance of Shenandoah National Park, and is to the Skyline Drive, taking drivers along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains! The Luray Caverns, a national historic site, with it’s famous Great Stalacpipe Organ, are just a few minutes away, and tubing, canoeing, and white-water rafting adventure can be found at the nearby Shenandoah River. Museums and Civil War sites will feed your history-loving soul! Onsite we have a brand-new camp store! We also have a large pool and small pool, a gathering yurt for groups and an event pavilion, a playground, and a jumping pillow is in the works! Welcome to this historic place! We are glad you chose to stay on our property. Take a walk back in time down the path and see the old corn crib and hog pen where hogs once fed our family and may others. Just past that on the right is the foundation of the old cabin that once was home to the farm workers who tended to this land. Just past that you will find a more modern block barn that was used to store tobacco as it began its journey to the market. A little further down stands an old tobacco barn where the fresh picked green tobacco was hung high by our great grandfather and his 4 kids, while a small fire burned below to cure the tobacco. Continue down the main path until you come to a fork, turn right and head down to the low grounds where you will find a cool water rock bottom creek to wet your feet and cool off.... If you travel up or down the creek you might just find a nice deep swimming hole to take a dip in! Follow the path up the hill and into the tall stand of hardwood trees and pines where if you look closely you might see some rock formations of years gone by! Across the road from the front gate and house you can walk down the path that winds around the plantation pines until it opens to an old farm field that in days gone by were planted with lush tall green stalks of tobacco, corn, beans, and hay for cattle. Walk through the field and into the woods. Keep a sharp eye out for Indian artifacts as this was their home once too along the river which you will find if you walk through the hardwood trees just past the field. Ahh the Hyco River, This is our property boundary but you can follow the river all the way to the bridge, or fish and swim anywhere you can find a safe place to do so at your own risk. You may here coyotes in the distance at night, or early in the morning you may be awaken by turkeys calling out from their roost! Please be respectful of others that may be in the property when you are, it's 400 acres so pleanty of room to spread out and make memories! Please have camp fires contained in a fire pit and extinguished completely with water before leaving. That means no smoke or steam and you can touch the coals and not get burned! We ask that you enjoy our property as we do but keep it clean and remove all trash when you leave.

At my farm I have 5 sites for tent/camping so it’s spaced appropriately apart I have 2 Rv sites totally away for their privacy and a new mini house also properly spaced away. All have a clean picnic table and a fire pit. 100 feet away you’ll find that clean bathroom, shower and a wash station for hygiene. You’ll see the love I put into this and because I love it and my prior guests love it, which means it may be right for you also. In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. Amenities include toilet access, a shower, trash disposal, picnic tables, and potable water. Pets are allowed, as are campfires.

Starting with the host (Valerie and Fritz) tremendous people, very welcoming…Family oriented environment, an abundance of natural sounds (some of the best sleep I’ve ever had)…I thought the train running near by was neat to see…Bathrooms were very clean…site (#1) was very spacious…

Road (highly recommend an all wheel drive car. Even my GMC had some trouble

Beautiful campground. The parallel spots were a little odd but fine. Unfortunately it rained most of our time there so we weren’t able to enjoy the grounds. Loved the apple orchard. Owner was very helpful.

Weekend Trip to Swedish Lilac Campground & Events

Swedish Lilac is not a posh campground resort. But it is a quaint, peaceful, woodsy retreat along the South River which is more like a creek at this location. If you are an outdoorsy lover of nature, then you will love this campground. Nothing fancy but they do have water/electric hook-up, a dump station, and a very nice bathhouse. The hosts, Valerie and Fritz are super welcoming and enjoy visiting with their guest. They also offered free firewood but don’t mind if you bring your own. This was the perfect weekend retreat we needed and we’ll be back!

Fritz and Valerie were excellent host and the site was beautiful! Loved falling asleep/waking up the sound of the south river. Space was nice and the amenities were well taken care of. Close proximity to Lexington, fun spot to hangout. They also provided plenty of wood for our stay for a very small cost. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to 'Possum Creek Ranch

My friends and I loved staying at Possum Creek Ranch! Jeanie was super accommodating and brought out a canopy cover and string lights for us, which was a huge bonus in the heat and late at night as we hung around the picnic table. The land is very spacious and has some really cute areas to explore, too. We will absolutely be staying here again!

We had a wonderful time on Charles's property. He was an excellent host and it was such a pleasure to chat with him. The views were amazing so we spent most of our time staring out at the water. Such a relaxing weekend. We would love to come back some day.

The mountain views and sunset from the site were beautiful! Directions from the host were clear and the pasture area was level and well kept. Vickie and her husband were friendly and made sure we were all settled in. The location was convenient for visiting Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. We definitely would stay there again.

I loved staying here! It’s a beautiful location right on the South River with a ton of bird life. Fritz and Valerie were incredibly kind and went above and beyond to make sure I had a good stay. I was at tent site 7 and enjoyed the fresh water spout, electric, access to the clean bathhouse, and free firewood dropped off at my site! I loved the sounds of the river and the occasional train chugging by. I worked remotely from their wifi for two days of my stay and was able to take video calls with no problem. I also felt extremely safe here as camping on my own as a woman. The campground is 20 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway and 20 minutes from Lexington. Doesn’t get better! Check out St. Mary’s Falls for some swimming when you come!
