So this is a great place to escape the hot humid Virginia summers!  We experience four true seasons, and the colors in the fall season are some of prettiest on the East Coast and perfect for leaf peeping!  We have deer, wild turkey, bear, chipmunks, raccoons, wild rabbits, Whip-poor-wills, and opossums on the property. Plus, the fireflies at night can be beautiful!  Plus, we've yet to see a mosquito!  You will be the only camper on the property, my RV is on site and is used as  guest quarters when I have company, but this is rare. There is no cell phone coverage and limited strength wifi, so unplug and relax!  The Camping Site is part of our mountainside property located in Long Hollow and sits on the edge of 7 acres of pasture, which leads to 7 acres of White Pine Forest you are welcome to use for walking, wildlife viewing, dog walking, etc.. It is conveniently located less than 2/10s a mile from Rt. 16, and 5 miles from I-81. Our neighbors are quiet but you may hear their donkey braying or chickens clucking. We ask that you do not disturb the neighbors or interact in any way with their animals. There is a Firepit and Picnic Table for your use. I try to keep a supply of firewood on hand which you are welcome to use, but if I run out you may have to get some wood elsewhere. You can scavenge fallen wood to burn.....

We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. While there is no electricity (or hookups for RVs), there are very few street lights in the area which makes for amazing stargazing. The only source of water is from a temperate stream that runs along the back side of the property for those campers who are comfortable boiling or treating their water. The property is 5.3 acres total, part of it is open former pasture land and over 1/2 of the property is forest. There is a wooden hill top area that is great for tent campers. The back side of the property is steep in some places, but it can be fun for those who want to hike and explore the mountainside.

The Shooting Star Tent Site A 20x30' deck for tent camping, with outhouse, wash sink, giant slide, fire pit and hammock. Can accomodate up to a 15ft tent, or two smaller tents. We have a seasonal outdoor shower available. The farm below the campground has animals, a duck pond, and seasonal pick your own produce! Note: we do have a second site available only on Airbnb and Vrbo. It is called the North Star Dome. Please check it out if you are looking for a two-person glamping experience at the very top of the hill!

New driveway exit makes it very easy to simply pull in to the spot and drive straight out back onto the road!

We really enjoyed our stay at Blue Bear. Mike was incredibly helpful in planning our arrival and when we checked in at camp. He is so knowledgeable about the local area and great to chat with. The campsite was just right for our Jeep/Teardrop. It was nice to have a nice open spot for long range views and stargazing at night. Bathrooms clean, showers hot, water fresh, power working, laundry on site - in other words, everything here is exactly what we needed. I would absolutely come back again and will recommend to others!

One of my absolute favorite camping spots! The views are gorgeous, the sites are all excellent, and the serenity is real. Jim is an outstanding owner and i really like his style! This last trip makes about 20 nights I've had the pleasure of staying at Jim's place and I plan on many more in the near future. So glad he shares the ridge with us visitors!

Quiet peaceful mountaintop retreat. The road is a little bumpy and steep but well worth it. The showers and bathrooms were clean and my dog and I definitely enjoyed the on property trails.

This has been our 7th time to visit. The road and campsite gravel has vastly improved and a lot of previous brush blocking the views of the river below have been cut back so now you can see it all. Sunsets continue to be spectacular and the hasn't been a better spot to relax throughout the day and take it all in.

Jim's land has such a cool vibe and an amazing view! We loved looking down on the river and the beautiful land down below. It also has a great view of the beautiful sunsets too! What a site!! The view is breathtaking. We were at site three and we couldn’t really see the water well from our site I think site one and two had better views idk about 4,5,6. There was a deck down below our site with a picnic table no railing that had the most amazing view of like the whole river. Site are big and private Hookup was great. Follow the yellow posters on the side of the road to get to the site. One of our favorite places we stayed so far.

This place was very quiet and peaceful. It was very early in the year and we had no neighbors while we were there with the exception of one camper coming in late one evening and leaving the next day. The hookups were great and the views stunning!
