Less than one mile from Virginia Creek Trail and Appalachian trail Wooded tent camping sites with long range views Flat Gravel site for RV's, Vans, and car camping Located on a scenic ridge in the peaceful family friendly community of Taylors Valley, VA. You are also located 11 minutes from the heart of Damascus, VA (trail city USA). Area Attractions: -Campsite is less than one mile away from the Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Creeper Trail which the area is known for. -Rent bikes in Damascus and take a shuttle to the top of the Virginia Creeper trail and enjoy the 13 mile gradual descent down a converted railroad line through some of the most beautiful scenery Southwest VA has to offer. -40 minutes from Grayson Highland State park (hike among wild ponies) -40 minute drive to the summit of Whitetop Mountain (2nd highest peak in VA) Amazing Views! About the sites: There is a large parking area right off main road for easy access. Those with vans and RVs can set up right on the gravel parking area (also an option to tent camp right beside the parking area and enjoy the open sky and long range views. Campers who are willing to walk up a somewhat steep him can tent camp in the beautiful hilltop tent camping site which is located in a grove of pine trees. This is a new Hip Camp listing and sites are privative for now. Enjoy unplugging as you camp because there is No Cell Phone reception here. There is WIFI at the neighborhood restaurant, Hellbender's Café just 4 minutes away (typically open from 11-5pm) during the warmer months. While there is no electricity (or hookups for RVs), there are very few street lights in the area which makes for amazing stargazing. The only source of water is from a temperate stream that runs along the back side of the property for those campers who are comfortable boiling or treating their water. The property is 5.3 acres total, part of it is open former pasture land and over 1/2 of the property is forest. There is a wooden hill top area that is great for tent campers. The back side of the property is steep in some places, but it can be fun for those who want to hike and explore the mountainside.Site 1 (Meadows car camping) has amazing long-range views and is located very close to the level parking area. Great access to your vehicle, the picnic table, and campfire ring. If you want to venture 200 ft uphill away from your car, picnic table and fire ring, you can access the hilltop top area. Some people like to hammock camp up there. You could also have a picnic or enjoy the shade and views on warm summer days on the shady wooded hilltop.

A lovely, open location—and yet oddly private in most ways. Great fire pit, nice picnic table, and Adirondack chairs. A tiny bit of road noise during the day, but gloriously quiet at night. Close to Damascus. DO pay attention to Jeff's instructions and photos of the driveway he will send. They were so helpful. Do note that, as he says in the ad, there is no wifi, no water, no privy, no trash receptacle—no nothin' except lots of great dead wood for a fire. We expected all that and were fine with it. A lovely experience. We would return.

I did hammock camping with all friend and it was a blast. The trees were about 50ft away from the campfire but it wasn’t too terrible. The campsite was easy to find and it was nice the picnic tables and chairs were provided. Would love to come back again and explore more of the trials and region. Thanks for some good peaceful nights.

Really great site that is private enough but has everything you need, we really appreciated the campfire cooking grate! The tent site is directly next to the campfire but if you want to hammock camp. Your only really place to set up is that the hilltop, it's a very nice view but is a couple hundred feet from the picnic table/campfire location There are off leash locks dogs in the area so make sure your garbage bag isn't ground level, we learned the hard way!

Jeff sent super great directions and I got there easily despite having no service! The photos were super helpful. The view was great! Super nice place to car camp. I enjoyed my stay. You can see the neighbors property and I'm not stating that as a negative, but just in case you wanted something more isolated it is, but you can see their property. I also liked the distance from town. The Damascus brewery was awesome and there was a diner nearby that I didn't try, but had good reviews

Not a bad review - I don’t know what option I selected and it won’t let me go back. I booked the trip but was unable to make it up the driveway due to it being on a hill and covered in snow. I contacted Jeff, told him the situation, and refunded me for the stay. He was super nice and helpful. I just wish the driveway was shoveled or the listing was updated with the condition of driveway. The listing said it was 2WD accessible, but with the snow and steepness of driveway it was not. BUT, again host was super easy to contact, very helpful and understanding and I did recieve an almost 100% refund.

This is a great spot if you are in the area for the Creeper Trail or outdoor activities. Easy to get to, host instructions are very clear, and relatively flat. The parking and camping area is on a small ridge above a home below with no direct line of sight. The fire pit, chairs, and picnic table are a real plus. The main road is visible but very few cars and generally it is quiet with lots of open sky views. Feels remote and private, but not far from town.

What a great spot to Hipcamp! Easy to find, beautiful views, and very quiet; with the exception of the whipper-will I would have shot if I had a shotgun 🤨. I enjoyed waking up to her singing the first morning I was there but I could have done without her late night concert! In all seriousness this was a really nice spot. I had a male turkey fly down to check me out and heard him and his sweetheart talking away just prior to seeing him. There’s a nice little eatery that also has ice cream just down the street and on the VA Creeper Trail. I would highly recommend a stay here and plan on coming back myself. Thanks Jeff!

Had a good stay at Jeff’s place. Having a google pin for the address was helpful. Cool views from the fire pit. And not much traffic came by. It was a nice quiet area. And only a 10 minute drive to Trail Days.
