2 nights at Streeter Mountain Farm

Josh was spot on…easy to communicate with & available. He was able to accommodate my request to change from outside glamping to an indoor room, due to the weather without missing a beat. The accommodations were excellent, clean, practical & just as depicted. Rained while I was there & it was pretty cool, but the grounds were accessible with flowers blooming & the garden coming along beautifully! I would definitely return if in the area. Thanks Josh!

Weekend Trip to Greenbush Farm

We loved Peter's hipcamp. It was so serene and beautiful. Would love to go again. Sadly, we werent able to get a fire or enjoy much of the river going due to the rainy weather and we also saw a black bear not too far from the campsites so highly recommend bringing bear spray for safety.

I am a traveling healthcare professional who stayed in my camper in Lucinda's property for a week to test it out. It was easy access to the interstate and CVMC. My favorite part was watching all the animals. I parked by a tree FULL of nesting birds and used my binoculars for hours watching them. There were also baby goslings who wiggled past my spot each day! I had a view of the river out each window in my camper- spectacular!! I'm a solo woman and felt very safe here. There is a second campsite but both are very private, and I didn't even hear my neighbors. Portapottie and delish potable water, and I had 3 bars of Verizon cell reception. 10/10, Ill be back again!

Absolutely loved the site. The views were lovely. Peter was super responsive and helpful. One thing to note, the water wasn’t visible from the site and required walking down a short overgrown path to get to. Other than that it was perfect and I would definitely stay again.

Weekend Trip to The TrailHouse

We loved this sweet little cabin on Caitrin and Hardy’s gorgeous property. The bed was comfy and having mini fridge, power outlets and a hot water kettle made are our “camping” weekend feel luxurious. We loved the big windows and waking up to beautiful nature right outside the door as well as the direct access to the Slate Valley mountain biking trails. Can’t wait for our next stay here!

We loved the beautiful private space that was Coy mountain! The attention to details, from wood to the shower and especially the out house were awesome. It did rain almost our entire trip so we didn’t get to explore the trails/woods very much and we also didn’t catch a sunset, which I imagine would be so beautiful. So we will just have to come back. 😊

We always have such a great time camping here, forest edge is a beautiful site! Had the most peaceful sleeps while listening to light rain. Waking up to clouds over the town was also so beautiful. Misha was super nice and so accommodating! Always on our list of sites to go to every year!

Great location-- SVT trail access a few pedals away! Great site and amenities-- hot showers and spacious bathrooms in particular were appreciated post ride. Great people-- inspiring and friendly hosts, along with fun and welcoming local riders. Great town-- great food options (Poultney Pub, Toad's Burger Bar, and Perry's all great) along with Porcupine Bikes for bike needs. Can't recommend enough, and will be spreading the word to others (mtbers or not). Will be coming back ASAP!

It's a very flat site with easy road access and has 30 AMP electric service and we can provide potable water to fill up your tank. Primitive Clothing Optional Camping

A private, remote, off grid, primitive campground and resort in the pine forest for voluntaryist, ethical anarchists, and body freedom naturists (nudists). We are a working homestead and welcome visitors who have a strong work ethic to stay for longer periods. May Fest 2025 "Cooperation" was chilly so we burned a big pile of pine wood to keep our weiners warmed up. Our next adults only event is August 8-11, 2025 and it could get pretty wild so no minors allowed for that! Our Cold Water Hose is turned on for season! Camping, hiking, and living off grid is available here. We host full moon gatherings monthly to build the society we all opt-in to. We are usually adults only, but if you are 100% responsible parents we're welcoming to families as scheduling allows. Our main focus is to get Shit Done, improving the resort, building out hiking trails, etc. This is currently a "minimalist" camping experience, if you pack it in, please pack it out. There is a solar powered extension cord outlet to charge or power small devices when the sun allows. We have a composting pit toilet with small changing tent over it for privacy. Sprinkle ash from bucket on your poop and cover with dirt. BYO-TP Plenty of pine firewood to burn has fallen in the woods. Only if wind is low or nonexistent. Dispersed camping available in the pine forest anywhere around the parking areas and further into the woods, and along the creek you crossed near the CAT Excavator. The creek is available to dip into at specific times of the year, usually only a foot or so deep unless there was a torrential rain, where it can get 3-4 ft deep at places. There's plenty of forest and streams to explore and camp out further if you want to hike farther from the parking areas into the woods to camp. Please don't get lost! We can show you a few spots to choose from when you arrive based on your wants. We can accommodate large parties of campers. Nudity is allowed anywhere on the property but not directly on the shared driveway and next to neighbors property. Our neighbors are further down the road with an animal sanctuary so you may hear roosters, horses, etc. when they're hungry. Clay Hill Corners Blueberry Farm

We have a 3 mile round trip hike to Harlow Brook with a map. We are on the edge of a wildlife corridor and often see deer, coyotes, fox, waterfowl, songbirds and the occasional bear. (Keep food in your car at night so that the bear does not eat it!) We are above the Ottauquechee River at North Hartland Lake. We have rentable canoes and a kayak. We can transport you to and pick you up for a canoe trip on the Connecticut River or to North Hartland Lake.. We are located two miles from Quechee, 7 miles from historic Woodstock to the west, and 7 miles to hip White River Junction to the east and 8 1/2 miles to Dartmouth College and the Appalachian Trail. There are fun casual restaurants with some sit down and take-out nearby and our local Jakes Market can provide you with a nice selection of groceries. Hot Air Balloon pilots often take off and land in our fields and it is always a magical site. We can connect you with local pilots if you wish to purchase a Balloon Adventure.

Sweet Song Acres

Sweet Song Acres is 100+ acres of secluded forest nestled along the Little Sugar River, at the base of Perry Mountain. Located in rural Unity, NH and Charlestown, NH, just across the Vermont state line. Southernmost point, located in Charlestown is one of two campsites. The other is Shady Grove, located in Unity. The two sites, located in bordering towns share the same entrance and are connected by a 1/4 mile trail. Both are very large sites. Campers would drive to both sites down a trail so we highly recommend a vehicle with decent clearance and 4WD or AWD. Southernmost Point is a fully drive-in site. Shady Grove campers park above the site and the campsite is down a short path, just a few hundred feet or so. The property consists of varied terrain of rock ledges, lush moss, streams, and panoramic views at the summit. There are many options of local outdoor activities in the area or if you prefer, just sit and "listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock your soul".

Overview

Rochester is a small town in central Vermont situated at the base of the Green Mountains. The White River flows right through town, as it makes its way to the Connecticut River as its longest undammed tributary. Despite its small population, Rochester has a thriving arts and culture scene with several galleries, frequent festivals and concerts, and a theatre company. Rochester’s proximity to camping, hiking, and biking trails in the Green Mountain National Forest and several ski areas makes it a great basecamp for outdoor adventures.

Moosalamoo National Recreation Area

Nestled into the western slope of the Green Mountains just twenty minutes from Rochester, the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area offers hiking and mountain biking trails, several camping areas, and plenty of scenic views. The area’s highlight is the Robert Frost Trail, an interpretive trail that commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry and introduces hikers to the area's landscape.

Chittenden Reservoir

The Chittenden Reservoir is tucked into the Green Mountain National Forest about 45 minutes from Rochester. This pristine lake is a popular spot for motor boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There’s also several miles of trails around the lake for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing adventures.

Branbury State Park

Located at the base of Mt. Moosalamoo, on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore about 30 minutes west of Rochester, Branbury State Park is a great spot for boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The park offers 36 campsites suitable for tents and trailers as well as seven lean-to sites for tent campers.

When to go

The Green Mountain National Forest surrounding Rochester, Vermont is open year-round. Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, and water sports as long as you come prepared for mosquitoes and other biting bugs. The Green Mountain National Forest is also one of the best places to see fall foliage in Vermont. The Lake Dunmore area is particularly pretty in fall and colors are best between late September and middle of October.

Rochester has a small grocery store, a few restaurants, and a bike shop.
Many national forest and state park campgrounds near Rochester offer advanced reservations online. Parks typically have a handful of sites on a first-come, first-served basis too.
Bears are common in the Green Mountains, so secure food in bear-proof containers.
