Metta Earth Institute (MEI) is a non-profit educational retreat center in Lincoln, Vermont. With 158 beautiful acres, we are nestled in a bowl of mountains with stunning mountain views in all directions. Meadows, pastureland, and horticultural fields are interspersed with hardwood and evergreen forest, old orchards, stonewalls, seasonal streams, and an enormous variety of wildlife habitat. Walking and hiking places abound, and a magnificent, pure river with clear pools and waterfalls is just a few minutes’ walk down the road. MEI is based on a small-scale diversified, organic, and biodynamically oriented farm with an acre-sized retreat garden and other herb and flower gardens, and 2 food producing greenhouses. We practice regenerative agriculture, carbon farming, and many other environmentally sustainable practices. Main House Front Porch The front porch of the main house has continued to be a wonderful gathering place with outstanding sunset views and surrounding terraced gardens with blossoms and berries that attract hummingbirds and bees. We serve meals from the adjoining big kitchen, and these can be enjoyed on the porch or taken on trays to the nearby Plum Grove, other outdoor settings. The porch is a great place to meet with others or enjoy a place to sit and read. There is also a good internet connection on the porch and a place to charge devices. You are welcome to walk anywhere on Metta Earth land. Or you may want to walk on the surrounding dirt roads, all with very minimal cars and great mountain views or along the river. We can give further directions and information about the region when you are here. Our stays range from basic tent sites to Yurts and Canvas Tents. We have something for everyone. We have four yurts nestled on a knoll among maples, beeches, balsam, and other trees. They each are positioned for a sense of privacy from the others and have little paths connecting them. They all are well loved and humble, beautiful, light filled circular spaces with a round dome skylight, lattice siding, windows with screens for summer use and in winter extra insulation provided by window quilts. Each yurt has a wood stove for colder weather. The yurts are furnished simply with various configurations of single and double beds, tables, chairs, shelving, and sheepskins or other floor rugs. At night a few of the paths are lit with solar lamps, so it is wise to bring a flashlight/headlamp as well. Beeswax candles provide inside night lighting. Some of the yurts have string, solar lights around the inside of the yurt walls. We have 5 bell tents that are lovely, roundish shaped tents with a peak. Four of them are smaller, one-person tents, and one is larger for a couple or 2 people. We provide amattress and pillow with organic bedding and a sheepskin rug, and a simple storage crate/table. It’s a good idea to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially in the potentially colder shoulder seasons in May and in September. If you have a tent, insulated ground mat, and sleeping gear, we have many inspiring sites in the surrounding forest glades, meadows, and fields. Those who choose to camp have access to outdoor composting toilets, a hot water outside faucet for bucket bathing, and outdoor shower available in the warmer seasons. Camping requires a certain hardiness and adequate gear. Weather during the growing season (May – October) in the mountains of Vermont is unpredictable. Temperatures range from freezing temperatures at night in the spring and fall to gloriously warm days and even hot days.

The site is located on a lovely mountain brook in Huntington. The small 8' x 8' cabin includes a queen bed with a mattress protector (you provide your own linens, blankets, and pillows), a small wood stove, and a bedside table. It’s within a short drive or bike ride to some of the best mountain biking and hiking (Camel’s Hump, Mount Abe) and cross-country skiing (Sleepy Hollow, Camel’s Hump Nordic, Catamount Trail) in Vermont. This property is part of an original hundred acre woods in the Adirondack Park overlooking Lincoln Pond. My grandfather moved an old ice house under the property in 1943 and built the existing camp in 1949. Her family lives in Florida and has continued to maintain and improve the old camp for the last 40 years. After having done selective logging two years ago we discovered a spot in the back of the property overlooking the pond and with the removal of a couple of trees have a beautiful view of Lincoln Pond. The deck with the Yurt is the beginning of an eventual cabin. I live in the main house from late May until late October and decided to share it with like minded nature loving folks. It’s a 1/2 mile hike from the parking lot with total privacy.Learn more about this land:Located on top of a hill on a 100 acre wildlife sanctuary overlooking Lincoln Pond and the Adirondack High Peaks. Private Yurt on wooden deck with solar shower and water pumped up from nearby creek. Access from parking area over old logging road by SUV or ATV or a 12 minute hike from the parking area. 15 minute drive to numerous Adirondack hiking trails. Enjoy starry nights with a Biolite Bonfire. Two twin air beds and one king air bed. Bring your sleeping bags. Glamping at its best!

Full of scenic waterfalls along a Vermont mountain brook, our daughter named the land after dynamite was found during renovations of the former one-room schoolhouse on the property 5 years ago. Naturalists will love the brookside trails, many dipping pools, a zip line, hammocks, and a privy with a woodland view. There are several scenic campsites on the 150 acres, but only one will be rented each night to ensure a special experience. Wifi and power available across the brook outside the farmhouse as needed. No cell service. Spend lazy days exploring the woods, reading a book in a hammock, or sunning yourself on a rock in the river. A newer, larger tent has been set up for 2025 . Roxbury is the geographic center of Vermont - which makes it a great basecamp for adventures. Warren / Sugarbush is 20-25 minutes to the west. Montpelier is 20 minutes to the north. Randolph is 20 minutes to the south. Two brewpubs are within 15 minutes.

This is one of the most beautiful places to live or visit in Vermont. My home for the past 40 years is right next to a stunning waterfall and brook. I love sharing this space with others. I have 3 separate campsites, each with their own pathways and privacy from each other. Your visit here will allow you many choices of ways to relax. My land abuts the 700 acres of school property behind me and I have trail and path access right from my yard to many miles of an old road bed for walking, biking, hiking, or exploring the length of the brook. There is a waterfall across the street. At least 5 different swimming holes and the water is cold and refreshing! I am 20 minutes from the state capital, Montpelier, Vt. You have access to my delicious pure clean spring water from the hose. There is a pizza/restaurant/bar in my town just 6 minutes away. Please, no fireworks, you'll get me banned by the town officials! If you camp here you will feel like you are in a forest, but will be able to drive anywhere with ease.
