The place is beautiful and Dot is a great host. We were camping during a 3 days long rainstorm. When our car got stuck on the way out, Dot kindly offered us to stay in the dome until the storm was over and the tow truck could help us. We'll come ba k again, hopefully to a drier experience.

1 night at Camp Compadre

This was a really chill spot. The open meadow is beautiful with plenty of healthy green grass for you to set up a nice comfortable camp in June. I also liked how there’s a pool available to cool off which i thought was a nice bonus especially if you bring a date! Brian was super cool and took the time to show me around which was really nice. I got lucky and had the entire place to myself during my camp and that was a nice bonus too. The meadow campground is pretty much wide open so you’ll see other campers in view if they are camping in the same area as you just fyi. The creek is nice but there is no water flow so i would reserve your swimming for the pool only. From what I understand the meadow campground is also available for music festivals and events alike. I had a very chill relaxing camp with no highway noise and sometimes that’s what camp is all about. Simply just being outside and relaxing listening to the birds sing. Thanks Brian for hosting

Weekend Trip to The Charmadillo: Glamping Resort

Tent camping was amazing here! The views and weather were so beautiful. Our favorites were the sauna and cowboy pool! We were also taken away by the kitchen, there is literally more than what you’d need for a camping trip and the showers were so clean & spacious! I loved the touch of eucalyptus. Now I’m trying to plan to stay in a cabin.

I loved camping out on Fritz’s land! The landscape is so beautiful and it was so peaceful out there. So many different species of birds to hear and see. The water is crystal clear and refreshing to take a dip in! Definitely planning on going back out there in the future!

What an incredible find! During the hot Texas summer, having a place to swim while camping is a must—and this spot delivered in every way. We’re always on the lookout for peaceful, private getaways that aren’t overcrowded, and this place checked all the boxes. Getting to our RV spot was no issue, and the hookups made everything super convenient. Our 21-foot trailer fit perfectly and was easy to maneuver. Despite there being others on the property, the layout ensured plenty of privacy and a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The real highlight? The swimming hole—it was absolutely perfect! Even our pup, who uses a wheelchair, had a blast swimming and cooling off. It was heartwarming to see him enjoy it so much. One of my favorite parts was watching the baby cows roam and play. I even got the chance to feed them treats—such a special experience! We loved every minute and can’t wait to come back!

No issues with hookups. Beautiful views of the hill country. Perfect place for newbie RVers to stretch their wings! We plan to return in the future. Thank you for an amazing experience.

This was our second camping trip on site 3 and we had so much fun! Great place to pitch a tent and cook smores over the fire pit! Thanks for having such great property to camp in the city, we love it.

2 nights at Laf ranch

Heaven on earth! Everything was so wonderful about my stay. Driving in, was an amazing adventure to start the trip. I had no issues with my 2wd coupe and there are a few times you cross over a bit of water. Fritz was an amazing host! I added burgers on to my trip so I didn't have to cook at night and he went above and beyond to make sure my stay was pleasant and comfortable. Thank you so much Fritz. Staying at the big pond site was unreal! Just me and my dog there and as a single female I would like to note, we felt so safe out there. We hiked around the huge property during the day and saw some of the other camp spots that are amazing too (I'm quite partial to big pond though) great hiking, and relaxing. It rained both nights which cooled the nights off. There was no flooding issues and we stayed dry in our tent (but make sure to have a rain fly or tarps just in case!) I cannot wait to visit again. It was truly a slice of heaven for me and my pup.

The cabins were super awesome! Very clean and well stocked. The roads leading up to some higher cabins were pretty steep and rocky so be weary of driving your car up there if you plan to move your stuff directly to the cabin. Other than that it is very nice and well put together, I highly recommend to anyone wanting to do outdoorsy things in the area!

We loved Boulderdash so much! It’s so quiet and peaceful. The water was perfect for the kids. The bathrooms were beautiful and clean. There was shade in all of the spots. We loved it so much we booked our next trip back while we were still there!

Boulderdash is a fantastic getaway. The hosts are just wonderful and so helpful. They have a little store where they stock ice and other stuff for sale. Words cannot express how incredible this place is. Shaded campsite with large coverage, places to sit, shade, furnished grills, great fire pits for both hanging and cooking, hammocks, swings, swim pool for the kids with a rock slide, this place is amazing! Oh and did I forget to mention zebras & oryx!?! It can’t get better than this beautiful place. Definitely pay for all of the extras like Wilson’s tour & don’t miss the sunset on 2 bar hill. Enjoy it!! Our whole family did! See you every year for more memories!!

Carol-Anne and Lyn were incredible host and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. The campground was a really sweet layout with great views, close to the water and awesome amenities. Would be an especially great spot for a big group camp

It's super primitive but if you drive 4x4 and are willing to take risks you could drive down, park on the edge, and have the best view out there. The hike down the hill is pretty steep but if your a hiker it's a breeze. Sooooooo much eye candy with the creek down below and the cliffs. Not a lot of water this time around. Clouds did move in but you can tell the stars would be epic from this location. Really hoping if Claire is cool enough she would let me know when its got enough water for recreation. 🙏🥹😉

We do ask that you keep your pets off of the couch and the bed and clean up any “restroom breaks” outside. About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. NO FISHING As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. The Ranch is our place we like to go when we need to get away. It's raw and it's nice land to camp, explore and enjoy wildlife. We have a Wildlife Exemption on the property and enjoy managing native song birds. We keep a constant flow of bird seed located in feeders around the ranch, and we have seen all kinds of birds making this a great place for birders. The ranch has nice elevation changes with a wet weather creek that traverses the property. There are some trails to hike or mountain bike. The cabin is rustic without plumbing or electricity, but we enjoy it and it's fun to think it's everything we would need. This is off-grid living all the way, and we are constantly learning new and better ways to do things. The cabin is located on the very first spot we pitched a tent after purchasing the land, and we continue to make improvements as we go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

French Connection Wines is right next door and the renowned William Chris Vineyards is just 1 mile away. Our property features a shared, covered outdoor patio with a games court for corn hole, checkers, and bocce (checkers, boards and balls provided), gas fire pit, and a gas grill for those cooler nights. The patio is lighted with cafe lights. One of the RV slips is covered, while the other is nestled under a charming burr oak tree. On-site, we also offer a rental cabin. The covered RV slip is equipped with 30 and 50 amps, the other hookup is 50 amp, both have their own water and clean out connections. Both RV slips are on grass/dirt, and the entrance/exit is grass and dirt. Our property uses rain water recapture. Please conserve water when you can when cooking, washing up and cleaning. No washing of cars or RVs is allowed. Please note that there might be other guests staying on the property during your visit. Kindly be considerate of noise levels and how it may impact the experience of fellow guests. You may also be sharing amenities such as the grill, deck, outdoor kitchen, and games court. We welcome dogs, but it is your responsibility to manage their interactions with other guests' pets. Due to potential gaps or larger openings in the fencing, we recommend keeping your dog on a leash. The owners live on the far side of the property. The rest of the property is left natural for wildlife, so expect uneven terrain, tall grasses, and yes sometimes scorpions, spiders and snakes along with deer, armadillo, wild turkeys, and lots of songbirds.

Guests share a pasture with livestock and wildlife. Weather in all its variations is part of camping. If you are not prepared to deal with whatever the weather may be, you should consider another option. We encourage guests to research this destination before booking, carefully review our cancellation policy, and consider buying travel insurance to protect against unexpected travel disruptions. Weather conditions are not an acceptable reason for a refund or change of reservation for this campsite. Cellular service is limited here. AT&T provides a good signal in this area. HOWEVER **** SPRINT, VERIZON and T-MOBILE may have “VERY POOR” or “NONEXISTENT” cellular signals at this site. We have neighbors, and although the place is relatively large, and we don't anticipate a problem, there is no guarantee that you will not be bothered by some kind of noise. Likewise, we don’t want our neighbors bothered by any noise coming from you. People live out in the country to enjoy separation of space. Please be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Observe quiet time after 9 pm and before 8 am. The country roads in this area are paved and they are excellent for walking, bicycling and driving. There are “cattle guards” in the roadways. Cattle guards are steel pipe obstacles along a road intended to prevent livestock, such as sheep and cattle from passing out of a fenced area. If you book this property you will be able to check yourself in at the property. The specific location and other check in details will be provided to you on the day of your scheduled arrival, and after housekeeping and campsite make-ready is complete. Most any car should be just fine for accessing the campsite, except in the case of very wet weather. Guests are not allowed to use firearms or fireworks on this property.
