Cowee Valley is a gorgeous scenic valley with farmland and winding roads and mountains on all sides. Idyllic drive in with plenty of cows grazing, deer and wild turkey running around and amazing sunsets. Cowee Campground has newly been made into a campground, previously undeveloped. We have left most of it undisturbed to maintain the natural and peaceful nature vibes. This land is a short distance off the main roads and small/private. All tent sites are in the shaded forest and RV hookups are just a few steps away with hardwoods filling out and providing partial shade. It's a quiet area with the sounds of nature and leaves rustling. We hope you'll appreciate and enjoy the beauty and tranquility as much as we do. If you want to car/truck camp without hookups we have space for that too. Just let us know. We have a beautiful 4 bathroom bathhouse, with ADA shower and another bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower and private back deck. 2 large firepits with Andirondack chairs and a separate picnic table and grill area. There is a large communal Yoga/Event deck and covered Bar/Hangout area beneath - hammock, bar top, darts and it's own firepit as well. Plus Corn hole and Horseshoe pits for your enjoyment. Indigo Eagle Sanctuary is an incredible place to experience the abundance of nature in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our Sanctuary features two main areas: Mountain Tops, or Creekside sites. Immerse yourself in beauty and adventure, with waterfalls, a rushing creek, fishing, and camping. Our creek properties include the Creekside Cabin, and Waterfall Haven (multiple camping site options, with their own areas by the creek). Guests have room to explore the mossy wonderland along Hornbuckle Creek, take a dip in a swimming hole, take an adventure and follow a rough trail (at your own risk) to another waterfall, accessed across the creek, or just kick back and relax. (Note to guests: Trail has not been maintained since last year. Go at your own risk.) Our mountaintop options include Eagle’s Nest and Songbird Campsites. 1 night at The Meadows at Poplar Creek

We spent a few nights at the campsite while we explored the OHV trails and downhill mountain bike course at Windrock. The thought of tent camping in one of the huge gravel parking lots surrounded by throngs of people and the rattle of RV generators at one of the large campgrounds in the area held no appeal. This spot was peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for. Extra bonus points for the burbling creek, the amazing assortment of birds that flew around us in the mornings, and quick and easy access to the trails. No conveniences at the site but $3.00 will buy you a shower at the Windrock Campground, and possibly other campgrounds around.

Cowee is the best campground we’ve ever been to - and we’ve been to a lot all up and down the east coast. Tanya has clearly designed this campground to every last detail with an aesthetic hand. From the campsites themselves and their views, to the public spaces, conveniences of a laundry room to bathrooms which look like bathrooms out of a camp beautiful magazine. And Tanya is absolutely fabulous - responsive and very caring. We are definitely coming back!

We had an enjoyable time at the campground. I have a van camper class B and site 6 is plenty large enough. The restrooms and showers are very nice and clean. The deck and area under are very nice place to relax and party or just enjoy the outdoors.

Weekend Trip to Indigo Eagle Sanctuary

We had no issues booking this campsite last minute, and while there was no communication from the owner during our stay, everything went smoothly and we had an amazing weekend. The location can be a bit tricky to find, so be sure to follow the directions provided in your booking. The site itself is large, private, and offers a breathtaking view of the smoky mountains. Since it faces west, the sunsets are absolutely phenomenal! The campsite includes a fire pit, a wooden swing, a large teepee structure, and a small toilet shed — all decently maintained. We didn’t see any bears during our stay, but we did hang our food in a nearby tree just to be safe. Overall, it was a peaceful and scenic getaway — we’d definitely stay here again and have already been recommending it to friends!

What a beautiful location for a getaway! Tanya was a perfect host and answered all our questions and was very friendly and accommodating! The site was clean and there's a nice area for communal bonfires. I highly recommend this campground if you want quiet and it's walking distance from the Sheffield mine!

RV Site 6 is our smallest site and is designed to accommodate vans or small tow behind trailers. This is a back in site and has a clear view of the rest of the campgrounds. Downhill are the firepits, picnic tables and deck, plus road to the bathhouse. Tent sites are to the right (not shown here) and in the forested area behind RV sites 1,3,5.

1 night at Cowee (Kawiyi Deer Clan) Campground

This campground has all the bases covered. There was a lot of charming cow mooing from a farm down the hill. I was shocked by the bathrooms. They are almost like little cabins. Made of salvaged materials with beautiful porcelain sinks and even one with a claw foot tub that looks out on a balcony with a view of rolling hills, wild flowers and pure natural beauty. There are so many thoughtful details that create a hospitable atmosphere. The tent sites are perfectly flat in little hollowed out half circles surround by ferns and beautiful trees. The RV sites have individual water pumps and electricity! There’s a picnic area with a set of big picnic tables and grills adjacent to a set of fire pits with Adirondack chairs. There is yet another communal space that is covered by a giant deck perfect for a yoga retreat. This is the perfect spot to host a large group or bring a crew of kids. Above the camp, they run the cutest gem mine I’ve ever seen. It has a lily pad pond that you can look out into while panning for gems. Tanya is the most gracious host. She was so welcoming and attentive. Thank you Tanya!

Weekend Trip to Cowee (Kawiyi Deer Clan) Campground

This is new campground and a work in progress so it may see a bit random at first, but it is a pretty cool space, in a great location, with great people! Located on the back side of a hill that blocks road-noises, access is a short gravel road off good paved roads only a few miles off route 28, halfway between Franklin and Bryson City. This is a very quiet area with great sounds of nature and a dark, star-filled sky. RV sites have modern frost-proof water, sewer, and 20/30/50 amp electric located mid-site. RV sites are back-in, but can also be used front-in by motorhomes due to mid-site fixtures. Tent and RV sites have good wi-fi and cell service in this mountainous area that is lacking in both. Hammock-friendly, two-person tent sites are nestled among the trees, on a slight hill, yet convenient to parking and bath-house. Heated bath-house is a very unique, clean, artistic mix of modern and antique materials and fixtures. There are centrally-located fire pits, horse-shoe and corn-hole courts, picnics tables, and a beautiful large Deck with a common area underneath for in-climate weather. There is a equally cool, artistically appointed cabin up a short walk from RV/tent area with fire-pit, deck nestled in the woods. There is a short walk to a productive, historic gem mine on the other side of the hill from the campground. This is unique clean, friendly, cool place typical of Hipcamp.

Lovely spot, and as advertised. Tricky to find, as the street numbering seems 'wrong' and when I went there was no sign. Helpful and friendly neighbor pointed me the right way. A 4WD vehicle is likely necessary to get there, especially if it's been raining.

The site lived up to the hype. We stayed at Eagles Nest #2 and it is a very well kept camp site. The nearby waterfall isn’t a long trail, but it is a fun and moderately challenging trail. If you have small kids or just can’t make the climb then there is an easy overlook to get to. We would absolutely go back to this spot.
