A serene, hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The bathroom and shower were a refreshing oasis amidst a sea of campgrounds.

2 nights at Horse Creek Resort

We really enjoyed our experience at Horse Creek. We used a tent site for our dry teardrop trailer on the opposite side of the creek. The adventure began as we drove through the creek to get to the other side. It made my Jeep feel like, well, a Jeep. But I won't tell it that we could have gone through with any car, SUV, or truck. The creek is pretty slow and shallow, so it doesn't require a four wheel drive vehicle. Then, we got to pick our site from a dozen or so, most right along the creek side. And get this: there were NO MOSQUITOES, or any other bugs for that matter (at least in mid to late June). The grass was nicely cut and the toilets and showers were clean and pretty nice for a camp bathhouse. The location was also a big plus as we were close to Hill City and the Mickelson Bike Trail, which was why we were there. Oh, you will also find the setting of it all to be gorgeous! We got some rain while there, but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for this campground. While others were charging over $80 a night, we spent two nights at Horse Creek for less than half of that.

This campground was very hospitable for our group. Jennifer assisted us with having the perfect site for our party of 4 rooftop tent campers. We were escorted to our site among the pines and along the national forest boundary.

Each site is lovely, looking out onto the natural land beyond with tons of pine trees above. Having hot showers and charging stations available was so convenient for me being on the road. And the owners are super kind and friendly!

This was a great tent spot. I usually would steer clear of places with so many RV spots. However this place was great, under lots of pines, friendly staff, and tent sites were tucked back from the RVs. Would stay again.

We loved camping here. We had a beautiful sight that was right up on the black hills forest. Very clean and tidy campground. They even have a dish washing area by the bathrooms which was great to wash my baby’s bottles. Jennifer was so nice and more than accommodating. Would absolutely come back here again!

Weekend Trip to Bear Den Cabins & Camp

I loved Tammy’s hospitality. Bathrooms/showers were BEAUTIFUL, as well as the convenience of free laundry. Our site was great, plenty of privacy and a great location overall. All of the other campers were great and super friendly as well. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something more comfortable when on the road.

We had a great experience with the perfect spot that backed up to the meadow with a beautiful sunset! All staff was very kind and they delivered ice and fire wood right to our campsite. Campsites each offered enough space from neighbors and the bathrooms were clean with hot showers. It was the perfect campsite for us!

We enjoyed our overnight camping here. The showers and toilets are clean and convenient. The site are large. We were on the edge of the field with a direct view of the forest, which was really nice!

This was a great place to stop for the night in my tent on my road trip to the Oregon Coast. Bathroom, shower, firewood, and friendly people there to help if you need it. Plus my neighbors, the cattle!

5 nights at Stagecoach Stays

This is a truly magnificent place. Immaculately clean, updated, extremely comfortable, and safe. These are just a few words that describe Stagecoach Stays. Clark and Shelley are two of the kindest people you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. Upon our arrival, they greeted us with hospitality and generosity. They introduced us to our horse neighbors, Crow, Apollo, and Rio, and allowed us to explore their expansive property. They’re very well-informed on the area, local eateries (309 General🤘) and places to hike and discover along the way. Don’t forget to check out the stars at night and sunrises on the back porch. Upon being there only a day, we knew this was a place we’d continue to visit for the rest of our lives. 10 mins from downtown Hot Springs, 30 mins from Custer, and an hour from Keystone, this gem of a place will leave you breathless and never wanting to leave. It is a remarkable find, easily one of the finest on Hipcamp. Should you ever find yourself in South Dakota, we highly recommend Stagecoach Stays, assuming you want some of the most memorable days of your life 🙂
