Crow Peak’s Last Best Place

We were looking for a nice isolated, dark sky location to ourselves and got just what we wanted. We would definitely stay here again!

Oh my goodness we loved our time sept 11-14. The sky cloud views were unbelievable!! Many turkeys passing thru the evergreen each am also many dear in the meadow! Quiet and places to walk.

Beautiful location at the end of a very nice gravel road. Quiet, great sunrise and sunset settings at the base of Crow Peak. Laure was very prompt in replying when I had questions. Full hook ups are a total plus.

Great location! It’s quiet. It’s close to town. Base of the mountain with trees. It’s perfect. The gravel road is well maintained and easy spots to get into.

Perfect hipcamp experience!

We had a marvelous, peaceful stay at Laure's hipcamp, surrounded by beautiful trees and hills. We've stayed on this property before and loved it so much that we returned. In addition, Laure is a great communicator. We highly recommend this hipcamp!

Safe and private location

First, Laura is an excellent host. Great communication throughout. Her husband even sent a site location map before my arrival. This was extremely helpful finding where i was supposed to be. It also helped understand where to enter the property as the site seems to have a geocode versus physical address. All in all, I was able to get settled in about 10 minutes which is a personal best 🤣 The location is situated in a beautiful area, off the beaten path - literally. It's excellently maintained with water and electricity easily available. Unlike every site I've been to, the hosts actually provided an adaptor for those not prepared (I was but there was a time...) The only minor things I'd do differently or change are: 1.) I'd is choose one of the other 2 sites (which were available). Both are more open than the one I had which is near a building (albeit a very slick black garage). 2.) I had to be careful walking my dogs, even though on leashes, due to the electric fencing (which I understand the need for).. in a perfect world, there'd be a place to walk them less stressfully...minor. Overall this is great place and clear why its so highly rated.

This Hipcamp does it right. I just wrapped up a 8,000 cross country trip and this spot is the standard other should be judged by. Easy access, full, well maintained hook-ups and great views.

My wife and I loved staying at Laure’s place and will definitely stay there again if we make it back to the Spearfish area. If you are looking for an extremely quiet spot with a great Black Hill views, this is the spot!!

The site was amazing! We ended up booking both 1 and 3, per a recommendation from another review. We sat and watched the sunset in the Black Hills every night. You are within an hour of the main attractions of the area and Spearfish Canyon was beautiful.

This spot was amazing. We ended up booking both site 1 & 3 to be completely alone and it was perfect. You can watch the sunset on the Black Hills every night or take a walk on the public land right next to it every morning with your dogs. You are within an hour of major Black Hill attractions but Spearfish Canyon is right down the road and worth the visit as well. Laure was very easy to communicate and get a hold of if we needed anything. We will be back!

Starry, Starry Night

Laure has a very beautiful property. We stayed at Site 3. This is a shared physical location with Site 1. Site 3 views of the sunset and later the stars were amazing. The gravel pad was very level for our campervan. I didn't have to make any adjustments. There are electrical and water hookups available if you want them. A very nice location for us to sleep. Close to our drive of Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway the next morning.

Beautiful and relaxing place!

We stayed in site 3. If someone was in site 1, the campers would be close, but not any worse than a rv park. 3 opens up to the front of the property and a nice yard. Our dogs loved running around and it was incredibly peaceful. Everything worked great. We would absolutely stay here again.

Superb Hipcamp Experience!

What a fabulous Hipcamp experience! Nestled on the north end of the Black Hills, this property offered a peaceful campsite and beautiful surroundings. The cost was a bit less than some nearby campgrounds, but most importantly, we had the serenity of no other campers nearby. The host was responsive and kind. This is what Hipcamp should be!

Great Stay in Spearfish Area

Laure's site and property were fanastic. We stayed at site 1 which shares the same area as site 3. If both are occupied, you will be close but in our stay we had the site to ourselves. The hookups are well organized, nest, and tidy. Water pressure was about 50psi at the spigot when I tested it so you have good water pressure and 50amp service. Dump access easy to get to and clean. Location has beautiful sunrise and sunsets and a fantastic wide open view of the area. Very quiet, not a peep all trip. Point of note, there is a public lands access on the other side of the gate and while there were a few trucks were in and out during the day, we didn't have any issues with noise, people, or vehicles while we were there. You will need to drive a gravel road to get to the location but the road is smooth and there were no issues at all pulling my 5er to the site. South Dakota spends some serious resources making good gravel roads that are flat and have no potholes, at least the ones I drove this trip were! Laure was extremely quick to reply to questions and although we didn't meet, I was extremely satisfied with her communication and the description of the location was fantastic. If you are in Spearfish I recommend this site without hesitation. We took day trips to the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, and Devils Tower and all were manageable. Spearfish has a few good breweries and pizza!
