Looking for a personal retreat or get away ? Escape to our beautiful, RUSTIC 32 acre wild homestead / farm. A lovely balance between wild and tame.
We are 10 minutes from the Potomac River, 10 minutes from Opequon Creek, 20 from Antietam Creek and 30 minutes from the Shenandoah River. Harper's Ferry is 30 minutes way and downtown Historic Shepherdstown is just down the road.
We are also close to several state parks.
- What do we mean by "RUSTIC" ?
The camping experience we offer is about unplugging from the modern world , getting back to basics, slowing down and re-connecting with the land. Simply put, this is CAMPING .... not glamping. (Our Cosmic Cottage is also rustic, despite the amenities that come with it).
- CAMPSITES and TREEHOUSE - No electricity or wifi on the land. Campsites and TREEHOUSE are nestled in the woods. So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site and get any closer because of the trees.
- SHOWER and PORTA POTTY - roughly a 5 minute or less walk from sites to shower and / or porta potty. Shower hours are 8 am- to 8 pm. The shower has hot and cold running water . You can drive to the shower if you need to.
- RESPONSE TIME - This is a working herb farm/ sanctuary and we so do not always have our phones on us. We will make every effort to respond to you within a few hours. Please be patient and you will receive a response.

- Feel free to wander through the herb gardens, eat your meals in the garden pavilion (we have picnic tables there and hammocks), get your Zen on in the meditation hut , and stroll through the woodland medicine path where we grow endangered and at at risk plant plants. (heads up.. the woodland medicine path goes to seed by the Fall and is usually munched down by the deer by then, but is still a nice short stroll in the woods).

This riverfront, fully equipped, beautifully crafted treehouse is not your average child's treehouse, but kids are certainly welcome. Walk up the easy 14 steps into this A Frame tiny house and you'll be surprised at the roominess. Inside you'll discover a full kitchen, full bathroom with shower, living area with sofa bed sectional, dining area, and loft with a queen bed. Step out on the deck, just a stone's throw from the river and listen to the sounds below of the gurgling moving water over the rocks. Move down below the treehouse to find another huge deck with a hot tub, relaxing seating, and a table for dining outside. Great treehouse! Make sure you hold onto the handrails when going up. Those steps can be slippery! Inside is very cozy. Make sure you’re comfortable sleeping with your companion that you come with! Very quiet and secluded.

Weekend Trip to Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary
We had a lovely two night stay in the treehouse at Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary. The experience was better than the pictures suggested! There is a short walk to carry your things from the car to the campsite. It is important to be mindful and take care when climbing the steep steps to the treehouse itself. (If you have any mobility or health concerns this may not be an ideal campsite for you.) The air mattress was comfortable. The fire pit, picnic table, and washing station were nicely arranged. It's only a short walk to the portapotty and a bit further to the wonderful shower (seemed luxurious to me, lol!) We enjoyed walking through the grounds, through the little orchard, medicinal garden trail, and pausing for a bit at the meditation hut. I would definitely recommend this spot. Loved it.

Amazing little place in the trees and by the river. My partner and I had an amazing time lounging on the dock and want to come back to fully enjoy the river when it's hotter next year! The fully equipped kitchen and that powerful little stove made us some great meals that felt perfect for the end of summer. Can't wait to return!

The treehouse was very stable and clean. Hosts were nice and easy to communicate with. The grounds and gardens are beautiful! Very close to down and Harper’s Ferry NHP.
Only slight issue was both barking dogs from a neighboring property and very loud trains sounding their horns all through the night/early morning. Other Hipcamp sites on the other end of the property may not hear as much.

Lovely place, fresh air, tree house is small but well suited, definitely coming back, love that is close to the river, had so much fun in it we fished with my daughter. She learned there how to ride a kayak for the first time. Over all little tree house is a must on a bucket list. As for the host very attentive, respectful. He has the place neat and well mantain. We love it. Thanks Mr. Bruce 🙏

I absolutely loved this site! The pictures of the tree house and everything on the property were beautiful, but it was so much nicer in person. You have a lot of privacy here as the other camps are down the road, but it didn't feel like a long walk to the bathroom or shower. The site was very quiet at night, and it was extremely relaxing. I would highly recommend staying here. The towns around were beautiful and had a lot to do, or you can really enjoy nature just by staying on site. Everyone was so nice and everything was extremely well taken care of!

Weekend Trip to Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary
This is my 2nd time HipCamping at Sacred Roots - first time in the wonderful and badass treehouse. The platform - outside of the 2-sided screened-in futon/sleeping room - has 2 chairs and enlought space for a few people to hang out. Ground level has a fire pit, counter and picnic table/benches. it is absolutely gorgoues and it's just really really awesome to sleep up in the trees. It's an easy hang - parking lot and a pull up to un/load gear is close to the TH. Also - it's well built and sturdy and i felt completely at ease.
i love Sacred Roots in general. it's beautiful and it's name is accurate!

I really enjoyed the treehouse.
The land that is was on I can sense the positive and holistic energy. Chakra energy spotted along walks. I love what I saw being build. I can tell this property is going to be one of the best healing camp spots. It’s already so great and I love the vision that I see already there and being added. Can’t wait to go back

Hillary is a great host, and everyone that lives on the grounds are good people. It’s such a caring environment and intentionally curated space. And when it dropped to 34 degrees, Hillary was more than accommodating to me and my son to move us to another site! Looking forward to staying in the tree house in the Summer time and reupping on my elixirs and tinctures 🙌🏽
