Open for the 2025 Season Play in Hood River during the day, relax in the country at night. We're 6.5 miles up in the hills, called High Prairie, above the sleepy town Lyle. We are new stewards and first-time homeowners of this serene, 10.5 acre homestead. 'Modern' human development on this land first began in old logging days in the early 1900s and old logging access road still runs through the center of our property. When we purchased this land in 2020, we knew we were investing in a real 'fixer-upper'. Our property sustained massive damage in a 2025 wild fire, so we have a zero tolerance policy if burn ban is violated. During your visit, look for signs of fire damage around the property. Some of our previous trails and lookout zones were destroyed. But, please feel free to still wander around and be mindful of erosion, especially up the hill. What changes and regeneration can you spot?? The original Buckminster Fuller geodome home was built back in the 1970s, and the outbuildings and garden spaces were later added on as the property changed hands over the decades. By the time we landed here, however, the home was in severe state of neglect. As we continue to care for and restore this home and land, we aim to use environmentally sustainable practices to minimize our impact on the land while upcycling, recycling, and re-using anything we can in the process! Wonderful and relaxing river sounds. Wonderful bird watching. Very clean and level. Site 11 and 10 are not oriented very well. Site 10 backs up so far that the view is blocked except a bit to the left, and mostly behind and to the right with trees. Neighbor in 10 sewer is just a couple feet from picnic table although outlet is father up front. Site 10’s “business end” just too close.

Easy to find and super easy to back in! Burke and Shannon (and Lola the guard dog!) were lovely hosts, and so helpful with suggestion on the area. Incredibly peaceful and beautiful place to call home for a night or two. Couldn’t recommend more!

Excellent location to access Mt. Hood and all the surrounding fun. Simple, quite parking spot with full amenities for your rig and even an outdoor seating area. The hosts were a joy to chat with and provided me with loads of local info, they were also super helpful in fixing the wifi issue for me. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and grateful to have a great spot next time I hang around Mt. Hood. Also, you get FREE high level security from their BEAUTIFUL dog. An absolutey stunning pup, seriously. Can't beat this camp spot yall!

Burke and Shannon are fantastic and friendly hosts, who live in an absolutely stunning location. This area is amazing in its beauty and outdoor activities, and they know some good spots to check out (thanks for the Salmon River trail tip!!). The RV spot was easy to back into, spacious, and had water/power in a convenient location. I will definitely be checking in the future to see if they are available when I’m in the area twice each year!

This property is located in the middle of East Maupin, OR. Full services included hookups, wifi and showers. There are a few restaurants and lounges in the area as well. The star of the show is the Lower Deschutes River. Will be back in the future. 💯✅

2 nights at Antelope Basecamp

Our stay in Antelope was nothing short of peaceful heaven. We met Larry when we pulled in with our trailer he helped get us situated. The place is so quiet, there is a flock of wild turkeys roaming the town and we saw several deer in town on our walks. We will be back next year to see all the improvements they are making including reopening the store/ cafe. The A frame cabins are perfect for two and look quite comfortable.

1 night at Mt Hood Camp Spot

This is a great little spot to use as a home base for Mt. Hood exploration! The RV/trailer site in the side of the house was cute and clean and often visited by some very cute and friendly pups + the occasional chicken. WiFi was strong and hookups were appreciated. You can walk down the road to see Salmon River and there are quite a few little restaurants and conveniences in town nearby. We were just a quick drive from government camp and some great hiking and day camp locations. Friendly hosts - we’ll be back!

3 nights at Nadja's Hideway

Private and quiet lower camp despite the nearby road. Zero mosquitos. Nadja was a fantastic and authentic host, even gave us baked apricot strudel and extra veggies from her garden! A herd of deer and some wild turkeys came through. We would definitely stay with her again! Note: If you have a dog, keep them near your tent/camper as it is the time of year for burrs. Our dog was covered with them.

6 nights at Antelope Basecamp

We had a great stay in Antelope at Brandie and Larry’s site (August 2025). We stayed 6 nights with electrical and water at the site. They even had an extension cord and adapter from 50 to 30 amp on hand to help us out. We camped outside our trailer in tents. The property was improving throughout our stay and they’ve clearly done a lot to it already. There is a building with bathrooms and a shower that seems very new. It’s a neat park like area next to that new building. They had many motorcycles stopping in and one biker too on a long trek! There isn’t a lot to do right in Antelope if you’re needing or wanting to stay busy. Or any stores or restaurants etc. Although the merry-go-round at the local school is neat :) There is lots to do within about an hour drive- our family LOVED swimming at White River Falls State Park and digging for fossils behind the HS in Fossil. Antelope is a super quiet town. We enjoyed our camp neighbors tremendously and found it eerie when no one else was on the site but felt safe. Happy camping!

Good communication from the property owners. Flat level gravel site, easy to setup the RV. Wonderful that they had 30A elec service and potable water. Burke came out and welcomed us, and gave us a quick rundown on the site and some walking/hiking options and a heads up on their very friendly big dog. We walked that evening down to the bridge over the river - wonderful forest walk on the road, big trees, ferns, and quiet. Speaking of quiet, it was VERY quiet at night - we slept well. Would stay again on our trips back and forth from Central Oregon. Oh and if you have a travel trailer, you will have to get in the opposing lane to back in... not too difficult. And low traffic on the road so no problem. Just avoid the pile of wood chips. Again, would not hesitate to stay again in the future.
