Weekend Trip to Squared Roots Farm Yurt

such a sweet and beautiful little space! dana and jeremy were very friendly; provided lots of information pre-check-in and made things as smooth as possible. the baby goats are a super adorable plus! so nice relaxing by the fire as the sun sets, listening to the trickle of the creek as you fall asleep. stars are UNREAL, made the little jaunt to the outhouse oooooh sooooo worth it! the bed is also SO comfortable (disclaimer: had been sleeping on a sleeping pad in a sleeping bag for a 1.5 weeks, but was STOKED that their bed was the first one i slept in again). and i learned a lot about garlic! got some inspiration for future garlic farming adventures...?!?!? we will definitely be coming back! thank you so much for hosting us :)

Weekend Trip to Crown Point Hipcamp

The site was really nice. There was some road noise, but it didn’t bother me at all. The outdoor shower was a nice treat and the site was well maintained. I would stay here again for sure. It would be fun to reserve both sites to share with friends.

This is a beautiful oasis in a gorgeous part of the Umpqua Forest! It is clean, cute and very well appointed. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. The sites are private-ish and well laid out. I have already planned my next trip!

Weekend Trip to Umpqua's Last Resort

Everything about Umpqua National Forest and Umpqua's Last Resort was awesome. My glamping spot had everything I needed and more. The people here are awesome, knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. Thank you Stephan and Seth for making me feel welcome. I took a waterfall tour with Seth which was the highlight of my stay. The waterfalls were roaring. Took a couple trips to the Umpqua Hot Springs, also awesome. The gas station/convenience store/market next door has all the essentials. I'll be back!

Weekend Trip to Squared Roots Farm Yurt

The yurt was exactly what we were looking for. Jeremy and Dana were helpful and extremely gracious hosts. We loved the privacy and proximity to the soothing sounds of the creek during the evening. We also stayed warm and cozy and enjoyed meeting all the animals. They even notified us when the goats had babies so my daughter could see them before we left. Also, the composting toilet was easy to use and clean, even for a 5 yr old… Thank you, we truly appreciated the hospitality - we’ll be back!

Weekend Trip to Umpqua's Last Resort

Very nice people working funny and kind made us feel at home really really helpful. The camper was very Very clean and comfortable.

2 nights at The Falls at Elk Prairie

This camp site is beautiful! We went camping in the early spring and would love to come back in the summer to swim. Be aware that the walk to the campsite is a bit of a way and mostly downhill. You may want to pack light. We brought a wagon that helped a lot with the load. Since we went during a storm, we were the only campers there. Privacy between the camp sites are just a few ferns, however the sites are a good size and the waterfall is loud enough that you probably won't hear your neighbors. All in all we had a great time and would love to come back.

Weekend Trip to Suncatcher homestead

We had a great time here! Andrew explained everything beforehand and the yurt was soooo cozy. amazing views and a great ambiance. would recommend!

1 night at Suncatcher homestead

Andrew is super friendly and accommodating. Has a nice spot under a tree set up with log benches and a fire pit ready to use. We were greeted by his adorable toddler son while we set up camp. The grass was pretty long all over the property- just hasn’t yet had its first spring mowing. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to have cleared pathways to the shower and toilet. But we had a relaxing evening at the site, and wandered over to watch the goats for a bit. Andrew and his wife have a great little farm with a big vision. The entrance gate is easy to miss, so follow his arrival instructions.

2 nights at McKenzie River Forest Retreat

Angela's camp is great! We loved the ameneties like the firepit and the handmade benches. Our six person tent fit easily into the space at the "Big Leaf Maple"site we occupied. The camp would be a great place for small groups on vacation or on raftin trips too.

Weekend Trip to Camp Colton

From first contact to last, Allison, Neal, Lawrence, and the whole Camp Colton team made us feel welcomed and cared for. It's a beautiful campus with excellent facilities. Perfect way to keep dry in the wet Oregon spring when tent camping just ain't the vibe.

The pictures didn't do this place justice! We had an incredible weekend staying in the lodge. It was so well-insulated that the small heater did its job well. I love that all the campsites had a firepit, table, and were near water. You can hear the creek flowing from the whole property. Tyler was a great communicater, too. Plan to be back!

Weekend Trip to Suncatcher homestead

We had an incredible time staying at the yurt! Andrew was very friendly when he greeted us at the gate and showed us around. We enjoyed exploring the reservoir and river area and spending time in the cozy, but spacious yurt. The bed was very comfortable, the lights were gorgeous and we loved the fire stove. We were nice and warm in the yurt listening to the rain and frogs.

We are a 501c3 non-profit, an education and event center and intentional community educating adults and youth in the practical application of sustainable living skills. We've occupied this land since 1988, but the buildings were constructed in the 70's by the previous organization called Shiloh Youth Revival Center. The land was once inhabited by the Kalapuya Indians as an oak Savanna - the meadow area was a sacred space for them, and we continue to honor that by not building or putting designated camping spots there. The lost valley area was named for a group of settlers that were almost "lost" on their journey here. People have described us a "destination all it's own" and come to learn and take their lessons to all areas of the Earth.

Then after some geographical changes to the family, they came back up the river starting in the mid-’90s, and this was a great family vacation destination. Zigzag Mountain Farm

Located on Mount Hood about an hour from Portland, Zigzag Mountain Farm is home to an organic garden, old homestead, house, yurts, and barn. 50 acres of open meadows and forest, bordering thousands of acres of national forest. The cabin on the property was built by the original homesteaders. Britta and Jim purchased the property in 2009. It had been vacant for a number of years. Giant slash piles scattered the land from previous logging. The house and cabin were not livable and needed major renovations. In 2019 we purchased and brought in a city bus and converted it to a campers kitchen. A year-round creek flows through the property and 3 major rivers are nearby. The Zigzag Mountain Lookout Trail leaves from the property. The property was homesteaded in the late 1800's. E. Mountain Drive was the wagon train trail into Portland, known as the Barlow Trail. Zigzag Mountain farm offers the perfect escape from the city.

The Ranch has 1/2 mile of Nestucca River frontage where you can swim or fish, whichever floats your boat. Niagara Creek/Pheasant Creek falls is a nearby hiking trail and there are roads as well as deer and elk trails to explore all over the ranch. If you feel like venturing further, the beach is 23 miles away in Pacific City. Tillamook is 25 miles. We also offer pasture raised pork for sale. We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close. Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. No road noise at all, we are out here and the only thing you will hear at night is bugs and frogs. Maybe a moo or two occasionally during grazing season. We named all our sites after past and present pets that we hold very dear to our hearts. It was that or some kind of hairy fairy names that you hear everywhere else like serenity or solitude.....blechh... We have a stream that flows year round, a 10-12' sheet waterfall with a swimming hole and a glorious 100' waterfall to hike to, stand under or just sit and enjoy. We have a pond that we are currently developing as a contributing recreational space. We are adding value at a very rapid pace and will be adding to the description as we do. If you book a month out don't be surprised if we have added an outdoor kitchen. Our real toilet outhouses have been added to 3 of our sites. So much cool stuff to do on a really magical property. We want to share so come enjoy. Not one of our campsites are in view or proximity to the others. Very private and lots of solitude. We (as hosts) can be as present or invisible as you like. Access to miles of trails and roads on BLM/Forest Service land for hiking, ATV's, motorcycles and off-roading. Please know to explore responsibly and at your own risk to preserve the land and keep yourself safe. You are also welcome to explore the property with the exception of one space on the upper portion where the owners reside. This area will be clearly marked. Views are beyond and nothing man made that is not on the property is visible from the property with the exception of one little red light on a US Cellular tower across the valley. We currently do not provide electricity at the sites but it is in the works. We have both available a short walk from the camp site in a common area. The power is limited to charging tech, some laptop time and the like, It wont run a hairdryer, etc. The WiFi is common use and has the ability to download and make WiFi calls. No guarantee of its suitability for any particular purpose, it will depend on usage in the moment. There is little to no reception up here so please plan ahead. US cellular has property and valley wide reception but that is the only one. Verizon can send texts and messages but is painfully slow or non-existent on internet. Also has voice calls occasionally but don't count on it. All the other cell services we do not know about. If you would like to spend a week or more here and would like a better power/internet solution then let us know. We can set it up for specific needs. Good if you wish to be in an amazing space to work remote or write. We are adding decks for lounging and views, a solar and wood heated community Jacuzzi for our guests and an outdoor shower tub as we speak and will add pictures as the projects are completed. We welcome ATV's, side by sides, 4x4's, snowmobiles and other such fun rec stuff but will require you to ride/drive on the bazillion acres of BLM land. It is on two sides of the property and a short distance. Riding on and off the property is limited to 10 mph to limit dust and noise and safety for everyone on the property. Please let us know if you plan on bringing any toys so we can notify the others on the property and send additional info, rules and such. There are several wineries on the road between us and Ashland. If you get drunk please arrange a ride or contact us for help. We support not driving while under the influence and will support you. we also have several responsible persons that live on the property and can be hired to drive/guide you on tours. We are in the process of creating wine tours of the valley which will include a driver. We have several lakes within 10-30 minutes for boating, and other water sports. Rock climbing is also available with the local sport crag within 25 minutes, castle crags is about 2 hrs away and several other small crags and bouldering around the valley 30 min.-1.5 hrs. Instruction and guiding are available if you or your group would like to learn. Equipment provided. Inquire. We can provide certain camping amenities if you need them. We would love to make arraignments for kids groups, camps, music festivals and workshops. Please be aware that there is little to no cell service up here if you get lost you will have to back track, find service and contact us and we can help you find us. If you'd like, tell us when you are turning onto Dead Indian Memorial Rd so we can expect you in 30 minutes, if you don't arrive we can go looking for you. Please just let us know and we can send directions. Google maps will take you right to the property, we've found that other navigation apps will take you the wrong way. Dead Indian Memorial Rd. Is a very good two lane rd. Some steep grades but qaulity pavement. Internet available for all sites at a centralish location. There are some small trout in the stream but only throwback size so far. Grow fishy’s grow!!
