The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. They kept me updated on weather conditions during my long drive, which I really appreciated. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly and given options for parking my setup. Before I even settled in, the host invited me in for a hot cup of tea and genuine conversation - such a thoughtful touch after hours on the road. We loved camping at Hilltop over Halloween weekend. We went hiking in Hocking Hills on Saturday and had trick or treaters and decorated and won the best decorated contest! Karen was very thoughtful and had breakfast on Saturday morning. The only thing that I would change is the site itself. Some weren’t level but we adjusted our camper to be level. Bath house was great and clean with showers. We loved the dog park all fenced in at the top.

Great place. Christy is so nice and the grounds are lovely. We wished we had more time to explore. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

My stay at Rolling Hills Farm And Stables was absolutely wonderful and exactly what I expected. The site was easy to get to and level. Electricity and water were right at the site. The setting was beautiful. Johnna and her family were delightful. They met me at the gate and took me right to the site. Johnna's cookies were delicious and her son's glee at telling me his Mom made them even better. Thank you! I will happily stay here again if I am in the area.

I used the RV boondocking site for a night and it was perfect for my needs. Very nice and generous host, and the portajon (in summer) was all I needed. The other sites looked lovely and definitely had a little nicer setting among the gardens. Would definitely stay here again.

This campground never failed me. Every season offers different experience, and this time around is no difference. The host is very accommodating, I even had a cup of morning coffee on her porch. Wonderful wonderful host!

Weekend Trip to Grins & Pickin's CampFarm

This is a very quiet and peaceful property off the beaten path but not too far off. Many sites that can be next to each other and others having more privacy. Sites in the wide open or inside a cove of trees. Nice walking trails through the high wild grasses with lots of pollinators flitting about. Primitive camping so mostly tents, but also smaller travel trailers or motorhomes can fit right in. We spent the Labor Day weekend here and it was awesome. Fires in the evening and star gazing in the clear night sky. Sitting in the morning sun after breakfast in the light breeze. So peaceful. Christy met us as we arrived and she walked us about the property leaving it to us on what site we wanted. I really liked that the sites directly behind the barn were separated by a line of wild grasses. Nothing to stop one from walking through the grasses to the next site, but a very creative touch.

Christy has made her land very pretty with lots of flowers and plantings. Even lilies in the pond. She was warm and welcoming and offered help if I needed it. I would stay there again. sites are flat and grassy. It was totally quiet! Great nights sleep, I was also the only one there.
