2 nights at Private Forest Campsite

My first Hipcamp experience, and it didn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for something truly remote, plenty of space and things to do in and around the property, then this is the place. Beth met us on arrival, and was a wonderful host - very helpful getting all of our gear to and from the site. Can’t wait to get back out here, probably in the fall. Definitely recommend.

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Camping at Tenderfoot was great! Owners were very kind and willing to answer questions and share their land with us. We had a great time using the pond, exploring the property and it's in a good location near Athens and Lake Hope.

Weekend Trip to Broken Oak Campsite

Fantastic place. Nice and secluded, everything you need is provided. Trails are well maintained, all provisions are stocked. This place is all we needed. I'll also say the tripod grill for the fire is super solid and one of my favorite advantages to the site. Grilled up some steaks for dinner and bacon & eggs for breakfast.

Weekend Trip to Geneva Hills

The area is nice and under the trees. It was a short walk to the bathroom and the pond. The bathrooms are clean but lots of bugs living in there. There was a truck doing work at 6:30AM so we became early morning people while staying here.

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Being fairly new to camping this was a great spot! Little over an hour away from Columbus and minutes from Athens. I’m familiar with the area due to being an OU alumni but wish I knew about this hidden gem sooner. To get to the site there is a bit of a downhill that can be tough after heavy rainfall, so be careful!! We experienced slick conditions but managed. Site was private, serene and a great getaway from the city for a bit. Our pup Indy (Indiana Jones full name lol) had a blast exploring and being a dog. Got to learn a bit of what happens at Tenderfoot Learning Labs as well and it’s awesome all the programming they have! Definitely on my return Hipcamp List! (Will have to try to other site out next).

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

We really enjoyed our stay at Tenderfoot, as soon as we hit camp everything was quiet and peaceful. One of the highlights was feeling like you’re in the woods without a long hike! The picnic table and fire pit were well constructed. We enjoyed the natural pit to a metal ring. Overall we really enjoyed this camp! Things to consider: It rained each day we were here which made it extremely difficult to carry our gear to and from the car because of the steep incline. There aren’t any steps so you really need to be careful in wet/muddy conditions. There are trails but we weren’t sure where they were so some type of marker/map would be helpful. I didn’t get service which made it challenging to message the host so I would suggest printing info before and scheduling when to drop off wood ahead of time. Also I would suggest bringing a way to keep wood dry like a leakproof tub, the tarp supplied let in a lot of moisture.

Clean restroom, very quiet with no road noise. The creek was awesome for our kiddos to play in. I would stay here again.

Beautiful, quiet country campsites. Nice walking path through the woods to a nice pond. Just what we needed for the evening. Owners were very nice and helpful. Would highly recommend to others. Plan to book again.

This is a wonderful camping experience that I would recommend to anyone. It is a farm setting, which makes things interesting and fun, particularly for kids and the campsite is very private and nestled in the woods Beth and Brian are the best hosts

Caleb’s land was everything we needed! We pulled in late and set up in the dark and woke up to find out we had found the best spot in the field! The stream and woods were great and we would stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Triple D Retreat

Franks place is a true Hocking Hills experience. It sits off a small, quiet road on top of a mountain. Very little local traffic and no tourist traffic. Nothing but the sounds of nature the whole time I was there. It has a well maintained path cut to a big lower level area about 20 feet below. Great place.

We had a great time and have both times we have visited. Michael is a great host and everything was pretty much perfect for getting away for the weekend. We'll be returning again.

Our family loved camping on Beth’s land! She was super attentive and helpful, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The kids were thrilled to interact with her dogs for a while as well. Pretty tough to beat camping out in the woods with countless paths to explore, as well as a pond to swim and fish in!

I can not put into words how much my husband and I enjoyed our trip. The location was fabulous, close to Hocking Hills and what a view from our camper. Everything we were looking for and more. Dan is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and we can't wait to go back

We have the BEST time at Dan's place. Dan Sr and Dan Jr are the nicest hosts, very responsive and hospitable. The property is the perfect getaway. There is a fishing pond and trail as well as an open yard for the kids to play. Love it here!

4 nights at WALKAbOUT Creek Campground

We had a great experience staying at Bear Cabin! We had to find something semi last minute in the area, and this was such a hidden gem! Far enough away from town to feel like you are in the middle of the woods but close enough that you don't have to drive too far for groceries. Cabin was very clean and beds were very comfortable. Area around the cabin was very spacious and we had plenty of room for the kids to run around. Walkabout also had numerous things that anyone can use, including an arcade, to keep us busy no matter the weather. The only downside was not being able to drive up to the cabin, however they did provide a wagon they we could use to take trips back and forth. Would highly recommend and would stay here again!

Caleb's land is scenic. There's plenty of room to spread out for privacy. I had a teardrop travel trailer. I only stayed one night but would return and stay longer. It's a 25-minute drive to Hocking Hills State Park.

McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns. Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep. Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

Dead wood for campfires is free to gather, or split firewood is available to purchase for $5/bundle. A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.

We purchased this 18 acre property in 2002. It is a small farm with an 1859 bank barn. We alternate raising pigs and cows for our consumption.
