Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a magical place to reconnect with nature but still sleep in a bed. The creekside cabin was very clean and cozy! David and Ivea were incredibly kind and accommodating. The place is clean, artistically beautiful, and honestly just felt magical.

Lisa was great! Very kind, great communication, just all-around lovely person! Her place was sweet and welcoming - out in the country and away from the noise of the city, yet just a short drive to town, restaurants, stores, etc. She made wonderful breakfasts for us, as well as a special dessert for our anniversary - shaped in a heart! We definitely will be back and highly recommend her place!

Fantastic asthetics. Beautifully done and maintained. Hosts were very hospitable and knowledgable of the area. The yurt was very comfy and inviting. First time in a yurt and it was a blast. Hosts went above and beyond by providing a battery unit for my CPAP machine.

Second stay and would still 100% recommend David’s place! So grateful for the nature, birds, stars, love, fun and beauty! There’s nothing better than hearing a babbling brook, bird songs and a crackling fire all at once :) perfect hosts all around!

1 night at Artemis Gardens BnB

Fabulous space, reminds me of the home of a good friend. Lisa was a wonderful host, gorgeous property inside and out, and she made a wonderful breakfast as well. We are in the middle of a three day drive to our new home and this was a safe and comfortable place to rest for a night, late check in was no problem either.

Lisa has created a wonderful, relaxed bed and breakfast experience. The little log cabin is picturesque with gorgeous big windows looking out onto the property. The bedroom was cozy, charming and clean. We had a lovely time socializing with Lisa and the other guest staying there, both of whom were dog lovers- fantastic for us, since our little dog was with us. Lisa also sells her handmade soaps (we bought five or six!) and beautiful artwork. Lisa was the perfect host and even made us a delicious homemade breakfast at 6:30am before we had a long drive ahead of us.

We had a fantastic time staying in the Creekside cottage. Falling asleep to the sound of the creek next to us was extremely peaceful, and the cottage was very thoughtfully decorated and equipped! There was a grill available, though we had fun cooking over the open fire. David was a friendly and attentive host, and we really enjoyed hearing about the history of the property! We can’t wait to return!

The amenities, the land, and the host are nothing short of amazing. We wanted for absolutely nothing on our stay and our children had the best time and loved David. None of us were ready to leave- but we will certainly be returning.

Another excellent stay at the longhall! There was some rain throughout the weekend, and the longhall was dry and comfortable through the rain and storms. When the rain broke and the sun came out we were able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the property. This weekend was a fun and relaxing break from everything. We are looking forward to visiting again!

This was our 2nd time staying with Lisa at her beautiful sanctuary and we have officially declared it our home away from home. She’s made breakfast for us, provided accommodations above and beyond the normal standards of hosting and aside from that, she’s an amazing person to get to know. We’ve both rented a room and also the whole cabin and had tremendous experiences both times. As we walk out of the front door, we’re already daydreaming about our next visit. The ambiance Lisa has created with her property is pure bliss and serenity. The walls, rooms, entire home is filled with beautiful art, gorgeous natural light, beautiful greenery and an overall sense of peace and tranquility. We are so grateful for Lisa and Artemis Gardens and Hipcamp is lucky to have her.

Enveloped in the heart of Tranquility Wilderness Area, our 11 acres has a mix of native pawpaw, peach, pear, and persimmon trees, deciduous forest, cedar woods, wild meadows, a small swimming pond, and a large, accessible field for ample flat for tents and room to play. Trails through the woods are being worked on, and facilities expanded as the seasons pass. Mellow nature’s soundtrack of birds, crickets, and frogs and enjoy an incredibly clear view of the night sky. Hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, hunting, swimming, and more are available at several state parks and historical sites like within 10-30 minutes of the farm. Amish country is likewise near at hand with several bakeries, markets, furniture shops, and greenhouses. Our primitive sites are spaced for privacy, with a gravel parking area near the cottage and additional field parking is available near the road on the opposite site of the main house. While most sites are walk-in only, the upper field sites may be able to be parked near and the Lower Meadow, Boneyard, and Oak Grove may be able to be driven to, as weather and site conditions permit.

Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Come out and share the land that we have loved for the last 30 years PLEASE NOTE….WE WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPLYING BEDDING OR TOWELS.

The owner Kim also lives on the property in the barn with her 2 golden doodles Scooby & Trixie. The nearest town of S. Charleston is 3 miles down the road and has a good grocery store, gas station, & dollar stores. Restaurants include Pizza/sub/salads, Chinese, Coffee shop, bakery, & Ice cream (unfortunately no delivery). Other popular destinations are... Cedarville University - 10 Minutes, Yellow Springs & Youngs Jersey Dairy - 20 Minutes. Larger cities of Springfield, Xenia, & London - 30 minutes. Dayton, Columbus, Kings Island, and The Air Force Museum - 1 hour.
