The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Located inside Wayne National Forest this property is perfect for nature lovers, a group of friends or a romantic getaway. Experience all that nature has to offer while waking up to the sound of birds chirping or soaking in the hot tub. This property provides a unique nature inspired getaway while offering all the modern conveniences. As you arrive at the yurt you will be welcomed by a calm and serene aesthetic. Our portico was constructed from 100 year old barn beams that were salvaged from West Virginia. This unique structure with 10 ft exterior walls and over 17 feet to the center dome was hand crafted by Blue Ridge Yurts in Floyd Virginia. Every space in this property has been custom built to create an unforgettable experience. This is the only 10 ft walled yurt in the region offering a spacious loft. Lay back and enjoy watching the clouds go by and seeing the rustling of the trees in the wind through our 5 foot dome. At night stare up at the stars as you fall asleep on your full sized queen beds with memory foam mattresses. The main floor offers a very spacious living area with in floor radiant heat system to keep you toasty warm in the winter. The space also includes a mini-split unit that offers additional heating as well as A/C in the summer months. A pull out couch is provided to accommodate any extra guest. The living area is open to the beautiful kitchen with custom made cabinets and rustic center island constructed out of old salvaged barn beams. The large marble island top provides ample space for food prep and dining. Our kitchen has all full sized appliances with large farm sink, full sized French door fridge and a convection oven. The kitchen is stocked with all the basics you would need to prepare simple dishes including cooking oil, spices, flour, sugar, basic cookware and baking utensils. A Keurig coffee machine and pods are provided as well as a drip machine with ground coffee. Our bathroom provides every convenience and luxury during your stay. A large 6 foot walk-in shower is spacious and inviting. Admire the custom built vanity also constructed from salvaged barn beams. A full sized washer and dryer are located in the nook of the bathroom and guests are welcome to use throughout their stay. Our main floor also includes the master bedroom complete with full sized queen bed with memory foam mattresses, Storage ottoman and TV. As you make your way out the back door you will find a little oasis awaiting. Our patio area provides privacy and the opportunity to relax in nature. Soak in the 6 person hot tub or gather around the fire pit in the evenings with friends and family. A 6 person dining set is a perfect place to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee in the morning. This property was thoughtfully created to provide a unique and special experience for each and every one of our guests no matter what the occasion. This campsite is beautifully situated on an active Amish farm in Chesterhill, Ohio. There’s a fire pit and outhouse for your use. There are no hookup’s, but you can bring your off grid camper or tents. Emanuel and Lilly operate a stunning 60+ acre farm, wood shop, gardens, and chicken coop. Both are wonderful people and always a pleasure to just sit back and have a nice leisurely chat. They belong to a traditional Amish group, so there isn't electricity on site. There are special booking guidelines because the family does not have telephone, however, someone is generally available at the farm house. Once you set up on site Emanuel will stop down to say hello and make sure your settled in just fine. My name is Chad. I am helping the family with bookings because they do not use the internet or any electronic devices. I am available by cell phone to make sure your stay is perfect.

Mostly wooded, this 7.2-acre property features rolling hills and a stream. The woods include groves and unique spaces to explore, and by 2026 the paths will be more fully formed for easier access. The hills throughout the property provide beautiful views, and the landscape is alive with ferns, moss, deer, pollinators, trees, and plants. Thanks to the excellent air and water quality, salamanders and toads also thrive here—though they may take a little searching to spot. During the day, the dappled light makes the site feel magical. The campsite includes a furnished yurt with a bed, fold-out couch, chair, table, and beverage bar for coffee, tea, and water. Propane burners and utensils are provided for cooking, along with an open-fire grill (removable from the fire pit if needed). The outhouse features a composting toilet, a wash area for hands and face, basic hygiene products, and potable water. Additional potable water is also available in the yurt. A dining table with chairs is provided, and plenty of firewood and kindling are stocked for your stay. Solar lights along the trail, on the outhouse, and on the yurt create a warm, cozy atmosphere at night. This property is conveniently located within 20 minutes of the UNESCO World Heritage Hopewell Mound sites, Legend Valley, and Buckeye Lake (30 minutes), as well as OSU Newark, Denison University, the Longaberger Basket Building, and Dawes Arboretum. Grocery stores and restaurants are nearby, with a gas station and mini market just half a mile down the road. Columbus city center is about a 45–50 minute drive. The drive here follows scenic country roads, so please be mindful of winding turns and local wildlife along the way. While visiting, you may hear or see our chickens and pups, though they stay close to the house.

We had an incredible time at the yurt! David was an amazing host: he greeted us and shared all kinds of local information and tips on hikes and activities and brought us coffee in the mornings. He has built a magical place and put so much passion, care and attention into everything there. The nature and activities on the property can fill days. We loved the yurt Viking decor, propane fire in the middle and the incredible layers of soft bedding! We will be coming back for sure.

Staying at the Butterfly yurt was the best mini vacation I’ve ever had! It had everything I wanted; beautiful scenery surrounding the yurt, a well maintained hot tub, clean and esthetic interior, comfortable beds, great natural lighting, close to Hocking Hills state park, and even had its own trails through the property. Also, it’s a yurt! Loved every minute and can’t wait to go back!

Such a great little spot. Between the creek, trails, ax throwing, archery and wild seclusion there is really something for everyone. Plenty of space for tents if glamping isn't your thing, however the yurt was perfect for our small group. The only trouble we had was with the cooking situation. The description explains any and all equipment is provided but found only plates and some utensils when we checked, these certainly came in handy but we had to improvise a little. 10/10 will book again

It's absolutely gorgeous out there - perfectly peaceful and enough to do at camp to keep busy. David was an amazing host - always had fresh coffee for us and a morning chat. Gave lots of great local suggestions! The yurt is very comfortable - it rained every single night and we stayed nice and dry. Despite the wet weather, it's been one of the best trips I've been on in quite awhile. The vibe can't be beat ♡

This was my first time staying in a Yurt and it surpassed every single one of my expectations. The effort that these hosts have put in is very evident. I was so comfortable and cozy the entire time I felt like I was right at home. Very private and tranquil. There was chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers on site, fire wood and a grill along with charcoal. I will be booking again. We initially booked for 4 days and contacted the host for a 5th day because we weren’t ready to leave yet. 10/10 recommended.

Where to go

Great Lakes Plains

Sandy beaches and island getaways dot the 312-mile shore of Lake Erie, stretching from Toledo through Cleveland to Conneaut. East Harbor State Park is a highlight of the Lake Erie Birding Trail, and birders flock to nearby Maumee Bay State Park during the spring warbler migration. The most scenic spots for summer camping are on the islands, and regular ferries set out for the Bass Islands and Kelleys Island state parks.

Till Plains

Cornfields and farmlands blanket Ohio’s central region, but there are also more than a dozen state parks within a short drive of Columbus. The limestone gorges of John Bryan State Park harbor some of the region’s best hiking trails, while to the north, the Mohican River is one of Ohio’s top spots for canoeing. For beaches, boating, and lakeside campgrounds, Indian Lake State Park and Alum Creek State Park are both popular choices.

Appalachian Plateau

East of the Till Plains, the patchwork farmlands of Amish Country lead the way to the state’s only national park, Cuyahoga Valley.
