2 nights at Private Forest Campsite

My first Hipcamp experience, and it didn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for something truly remote, plenty of space and things to do in and around the property, then this is the place. Beth met us on arrival, and was a wonderful host - very helpful getting all of our gear to and from the site. Can’t wait to get back out here, probably in the fall. Definitely recommend.

Weekend Trip to Private Forest Campsite

It was just what we needed for a little local getaway. The site itself is private and quiet—except for the coyotes and whippoorwills, much to our delight. And a sunset float in the farm pond watching sheep graze? Splendid way to spend an evening. Beth was an excellent host and had our “extras” ready to go. When the weather is fair, we camp. When it’s Southern Ohio humid/hot/rainy tricky, we glamp! We brought a heavy 10x10 market canopy for shelter and she was kind enough to tow it and our gear to and from the site. We already promised the kids we’d bring them next time just to escape. (You don’t have to unplug, though. You may still get decent cell service if that’s important to know when picking your HipCamp!) This was our first HipCamp experience and we were quite pleased.

I grabbed the tent site down the dirt road instead of the manicured one closer to the street. Ed was very responsive and welcoming. I had a tasty dinner at the Company Store nearby and went into Athens for breakfast.

2 nights at Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch Creekside Retreat

We had an amazing time here! The bison tipi was perfect for us and our dogs. The bison tipi had the perfect set up for hammocks to sit back and relax. I would highly recommend this location. It also allows for a good amount of privacy from the other campers. Thank you for the stay!

1 night at Appalachian Retreat

A clean, safe, accessible campsite perfect for those with a pop up tent on a suv. (Bronco sport). Or regular tent. Very quiet and peaceful, great spot as a midway point or for exploring nearby Marietta OH. Couldn’t be more pleased. Having a SUV I think is preferable for navigating the roads. The only down side is no internet or cell service so make sure to make arrangements and get everything done before hand. Literally a 7 min drive to a Walmart if you desperately need internet. I actually enjoyed knowing that I can’t be bothered. Overall 10/10 experience.

Weekend Trip to Birdhouse Farm Camp And Cabin

I highly recommend staying with Jennifer !! The Pond Side Cabin was absolutely beautiful and lovely. The hosts were very courteous and hospitable. The campsite itself was very private, and the versatility of being able to open/close the side of the cabin allowed for very fun and immersive nights. The food Jennifer cooked for us was professional grade and knocked out any expectations I could have had out of the park. Overall I highly recommend this campsite and I will be returning!

Caleb’s land was everything we needed! We pulled in late and set up in the dark and woke up to find out we had found the best spot in the field! The stream and woods were great and we would stay here again!

Pretty tough to beat camping out in the woods with countless paths to explore, as well as a pond to swim and fish in!

The tipi and the land around it was amazing. We had everything we needed. Carie’s husband was very helpful when we arrived; I’m also so glad Carie was thoughtful enough to have us change tipi’s d/t the rain on our first night. Despite a little dampness, we stayed nice and warm.

Very nice farm with livestock, peaceful, reasonably close to Circleville and Lancaster with lots to see and do. Very nice folks managing it makes for a sweet time. Would definitely stay there again.

Dogwood Cabin

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions. Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek. Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit. There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc. No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire. Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy. Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less. An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin. No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles. Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire. 8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave. We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks. 24 hours before your arrival, you should receive a message with the code to get in at the digital entry door, plus a bit more information that you may enjoy.

This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Backwoods Camping

Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.
