It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Edge of the Ledge Camp is a 4 site primitive campground on ground is located in a mature oak hardwood forest that offers bright light under a full forest canopy. In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Consider splitting larger groups into smaller groups. *Repackage food to minimize waste. *Use a map and compass or GPS to eliminate the use of marking paint, rock cairns or flagging. (this is a challenging one for us...any suggestions?) *Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Durable surfaces include maintained trails and designated campsites, rock, gravel, sand, dry grasses or snow. *Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams. *Good campsites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary. In popular areas: *Concentrate use on existing trails and campsites. *Walk single file in the middle of the trail, even when wet or muddy. *Keep campsites small. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent. In pristine areas: Disperse use to prevent the creation of campsites and trails. Avoid places where impacts are just beginning. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises. These principles were established by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and built on work by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1980s. Weekend Trip to The Lake at the Flying J Farm

I've stayed at Flying J now 5+ times, and have stayed at sites 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The only one I wouldn't choose again is 3, as it's the site right in the open by the boat dock (as Richard clearly describes in the site profile). Site 1, 5, and 6 are all great sites in the woods. 1 and 5 have nice lake views, and 6 is up on a little bluff with farther views of the lake through the trees. Site 4 is the one you cannot drive to as it's across a small earthen dam. It's got more of an open view of the lake than sites 1, 5, and 6. Again, all the sites are great and Richard is an awesome host!

We had a quick stop over at James farm on a road trip West and it was everything we needed. He responded quickly and even got us some fire wood last minute. We didn’t get to meet as we arrived late and left early but it was a beautiful place. The bathroom in the barn a great plus!

Weekend Trip to Countryside Corner

Thanks to Michelle for making my first-time Hipcamping a breeze! She greeted me just as I pulled in and showed me to the best spot for my car camping. Appreciated the nearby private toilet and got to use the firewood and fire ring my second night. Nights were peaceful and mornings so pretty with the field of fog! Wish I had been there during the daytime to meet the goats - another time!

Weekend Trip to The Turkey Hollow Campground

Some of the reviews are overly critical of Matt's camping area. The campgrounds are easy to get to, with improved gravel roads. The road leading to his land is mostly paved, but only one way. The 4x4 camp sites are well marked. I had no issue getting my pop-up camper in and out from one of the close to the road spaces. Kermit's bottom did require 4x4 when climbing the gravel hill. He clearly states this many times in the listing. All of that being said, the campground is peaceful, serene, and very colorful during the fall. Firewood is provided for a small fee, as well as a fire ring and picnic table. Close to town as well - you can get whatever you need within 10 minutes. Currently there are outdoor showers and a porta potty. I will definitely come back, and I'm sure it will only be a better experience.

It’s an awesome little camp ground! Nice swim/fishing pond, an outlet to charge a phone, outdoor showers with a propane water heater, firewood available and a porta potty. The property was really pretty! Walked the creek bed to see some cool rock formations, bunch of wildlife and had owls hooting to wake us up both mornings. 2nd time there now, I will visit again! I walked past the cabins while I was there also, definitely want to rent one of those, they look really nice.

Beautiful little spot tucked away in the woods. Richard made his rounds and checked in on us every night. Only downside to the site was the shower situation. Wasn’t the cleanest and the hot water didn’t seem to work. But as a camp site it was the perfect place just outside of town.

1 night at The Turkey Hollow Campground

It is a beautiful and peaceful place to camp. There are a number of sites to choose from; in the woods or out in the open on grass. The only truly level place is on the grass near the road in so it is not an ideal camping spot for larger pull trailers or RVs. My camper is only 13' so it was just small enough. To my surprise there are a few power hookups and a water hydrant. Also, the owner has provided a port-a-potty and an outdoor shower with an on-demand water heater! He also provides firewood for a reasonable price. If you are a star gazer, there are clear views of the sky with no light pollution. If you like primitive camping with some amenities this is your place. I would definitely stay again.

This is my go to spot. I come to this beautiful property a couple of times a year. James and his wife are so sweet and helpful. They maintain everything really well. Beware the wood site is full of ticks! We were pulling them off of our dogs constantly. But the site is very private and a perfect getaway.
