A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use.
A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing. Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River.
Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites.
The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped.
Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions.
There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure.

Each guest will have access to private parking area and wooded walkway, dome, deck area, fire pit, barbeque grill, hammock, and 3-acre pasture with pond.
Entrance codes will be shared to guests on the day arrival.
Guests will receive entrance codes for the private parking pad, gate after walking bridge, and dome red door.

Great shaded sites by the water for kayak/fishing. Felt private, with our own fire pit, picnic table and private commode. Nikki and Mann were gracious hosts and were super friendly and welcoming. Local farm/market store was very close drive to grab water. 20L can was enough for 2 people for 2 days. Stayed 3 nights.

This site was just what I needed for the night. The setting was beautiful and easy to get to. It was so nice being sandwiched between the 2 ponds. The bugs were large and numerous enough to carry you off, but that was not unexpected based on other reviews. Overall a very nice spot and one I would use again as a stop over going from the Outer Banks.

Christopher (the host) made this very simple and frictionless. I texted him before I got there, he met me at the start of the driveway and showed me the camping spot.
It was quiet and the weather was ideal. I walked around the property and checked out the chickens.
I got coffee at Red Rabbit the next morning.

My husband and I had a great first camping experience at Tar River Life! The campgrounds were nice and clean and the area was pretty, full of trees and animal sounds. We enjoyed the sound of hooting owls at night while sitting at the fire pit and the view of the river was also relaxing. The host was nice and had wonderful communication throughout our visit. They also give 1 free bundle of fire wood for your stay and you can buy more right at the site, that was the best part for us! The site has no running water, or Wi-Fi and cell service is limited! Amenities include a picnic table, fire pit, personal porta-potty , trash bin and one bundle of wood! All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to coming back!
