You take Waterville Road Exit 451 and go underneath the interstate and up the gravel road (going around the road closed signs) to our hostel which is the first building on said road. We hope that I40 will open back up here soon with two lanes going in either direction, but as of now we do not know when that will be (though we hope soon!). We will post updates on our webpage and Facebook as we learn more and look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces during the 2025 hiking season! We are first-come, first-served in Northbound thru hiking season (March 15 through May 15), however, reservations are available at all other times of the year by contacting us via phone 4234870014 (Call) or 4236080149 (Call or Text). Campsite also boasts energizing, private hike up to Heaton Ridge. Want to spend the day kayaking or canoeing? Head to Wilbur Lake, about a 30 minute drive away from our campsite. Exploring Laura Falls is only a 20 minute drive away. Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, and Grandfather Mountain in N.C. are about 30-45 minutes away. The Smokey Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood are about a 2 hour drive through amazing mountain views. The annual Rhododendron Festival takes place minutes away. Supplies can be found at the state park camp store or in town at Redi-Mart or Dollar General. Water and showers are down by barn. A Gator is available for the duration of your stay. Please arrive before sundown so we can meet you the first time you stay to show you the way and make sure you are comfortable driving Gator. We will have you follow us up to the campsite and from there you can come and go and just leave the Gator by your car near the barn when you are out and about and when checking out. A small Bluetti power charging station will be available in the tent (for light charging of cell phones, other) which can be recharged by the barn if used heavily. A Coleman stove with a small propane tank, pots, a frying pan and utensils is also included in the site. Another small propane tank is provided for the radiator in the tent.

We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. In addition to camping, the Big Cove Santuary comprises the Big Cove Resiliency Laboratory, and the Big Cove Rewilding Institute. Numerous nature trails. There are wildlife observation opportunities, including abundant bird life. A small waterfall and a spring feed bathing pond is on the property. WiFi is available near basecamp. There are two outdoor toilets:, a Porta John (that drops into a septic tank), and a composting toilet (that smells better). There is an outdoor sink for guests. One site provides for RVs and parking on site (and has a 120 V electrical outlet). Tent sites require carrying gear a short (or moderate) distance. There are several sites with fire rings. Nearly every day there is a small challenge, nothing comes easy, but all the coziness and comfort is there. The water is supplied by a spring above the mill. Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom.We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

Hot Springs, NC is located on the Appalachian Trail. We are located 1 hr from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Knoxville, and Asheville! Long Creek Haven is located 2 hrs from Cade's Cove. There are many UTV trails all around us, so bring your UTV's! We are pet-friendly, however, pets must be well-behaved on a leash at all times. We have 3 small dogs, 4 cats, and 1 chicken on the property. We have a circular gravel drive with easy access off of Hwy 340, so we can accommodate big rigs as well as vans and buses! We welcome all types of rv's, skoolies, vans, converted rigs, etc.! Guests are welcome to stay up to 2 weeks. If you need or want to stay longer, just ask! Boondocking is $35 per night. Electric, sewage, and water are available if needed. Electric is 15, 30, or 50 amp. Full hookup sites are available for an additional $20 fee per night, therefore $55 per night. Discounts are given for a weekly rate. All full hookup sites are located on the creek! We have more boondocking sites available than are listed, so, if the site you want is booked or if you need another site due to traveling with friends or family, please call us and ask!
