Two porta-potties are on the farm and private porta-potties are available for rent. Groups of eight or more are required to rent a porta potty should you not bring your own toilet system with you. We do not allow the use of our small wooded areas as toilets. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. It exceeded our expectations. The bathrooms were checked regularly and super clean. Tent itself was clean and well kept, the bed was firm and comfortable. We arrived after dark, someone met us upon arrival and escorted us to the campsite and made sure all the lights worked. Great relaxing experience, would recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay at Rhonda’s land! The spot was peaceful, surrounded by nature, and gave us a real sense of adventure. It’s a great place if you like being outdoors and don’t mind a bit of a rustic experience. Definitely recommend for campers who enjoy exploring and a touch of adventure — but if you prefer everything perfectly polished, this might not be your style.

Stayed in Cabin 2 for a night, the hike up was definitely worth it! I would definitely recommend packing light and bringing a sleeping bag and good headlight/flashlight. Doug, the caretaker was soo welcoming and accommodating. For anyone following the coordinates that are sent to you with the directions I would just follow the Google directions under the name of the cabins. The coordinates took me to a private driveway in Google maps. Definitely recommend this place for a nice unplugged time.

This was an absolutely adorable place to stay! Everyone was very friendly and it was great that there were shared spaces, but I still felt like I could have privacy at my site. The whole campground was well maintained, and perfectly located between hiking at DuPont State Forest and the night life of Asheville!

3 nights at Mountain Creek Rest

I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this spot is. The stream, the trees, the quiet. I have camped in almost every state, and this is easily one of my favorite sites. The road in a bit bumpy, but doable. I easily made the trek in a civic. The road is also great for taking a scenic walk. The covered porch was perfect for a rainy afternoon, and the heater was a welcome addition on cool autumn evenings. Close to the stunning Joyce Kilmer Wilderness & Nantahala National Forest. I hope to come back again!

Our location is phenomenal we are an hour from Knoxville and Asheville and just about 1/4 mile off I-40. Right at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and 35 minutes from Gatlinburg about 40 minutes to Pigeon Forge (Dollywood), also about 45 minutes to Sevierville and one of my favorite Tanger Outlets!! The beautiful Smoky Mountains the National Park is filled with hiking trails and horse stables and trails. Some of the best white water rafting is less then 5 miles up the road along with zip lining and a lil taste of moonshine here and there. This property is primitive with no electric and has a camping style bathhouse. IT’s recommended for outdoor lovers and people that are not too needy. Hurricane Helene brought unforecasted changes in the land but the tranquility of the River remains. We have worked to restore as much as we could. As for us it’s still our happy place in the Smoky Mountains!
