This is such an awesome camp ground! Definitely one of my favorites and will be back again. It feels like a magical forest at night!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

I have booked Hipcamps that cost twice as much and not half as nice. We absolutely loved our stay at the Island Site. Brian has put so much time and love into these camp sites. We will definitely be back. When we camped in early May, no issues with mosquitos, but bring some repellant as it gets warmer would be safe. Bring some dry kindling for your fire. This is a very tropical area, so everything on the ground is always a bit moist. If your tent requires stakes, bring some line so you can stake off of the level platform.

Weekend Trip to Babbling Brook Campground

We had a great weekend staying at the newly-constructed Birds' Nest Tent and Hammock site! It was well-equipped and just what we wanted for a weekend getaway, and Elizabeth and Mark were extremely helpful & hospitable. It was a nice bonus to go see their farm & animals at a time that was convenient for them also - it is their home, so we wanted to be respectful of their privacy and time. Pack light - it's a bit of a walk downhill to the site, and she has a lot of things you may need down there already! Water shoes for playing in the creek were well worth bringing along with a bundle of dry, larger firewood. It's a great site, would recommend.

Weekend Trip to Winding Stair Campground

The campground is gorgeous! Our site (the glass house site) was close to the bath house which made it very convenient. The bath house is immaculately clean and well stocked with essentials for guests to use. We took advantage of the little store to pick up firewood, ice, and a couple of refreshments. They also have complimentary coffee and tea at the store. They really thought of everything. The pavilion is beautiful and my little one had a great time playing by the creek. We also loved the free ranging guineas roaming the property. We had a wonderful time and would love to come back!

2 nights at Mountain Creek Rest

Brian has created a beautiful oasis in the middle of the wild NC mountains! The Islandsite is surrounded by rushing mountain streams on either side. It hit the sweet spot of feeling both safe and private. And Brian hit the perfect balance of being welcoming and informative while also giving you space and privacy. My dog LOVED being able to wander the island off-leash and I loved hearing the roar of the water instead of the roar of engines chasing the Dragon nearby. The hiking was gorgeous, the bathroom clever and clean, and there are sweet little treasures (both man and nature made) to be found on the island. DO put Cedar Cove Church in your GPS and follow Brian's excellent directions from there, otherwise you will end up on Dirk (?) something road which is VERY sketching but doable. Smokey and I both thank you Brian for a wonderful time!

Weekend Trip to Hidden Acres Mountain Camping

It was my first time camping ever. And It was an AMAZING TIME!! ⛺️ My boyfriend and I stayed at Woods & Water. Very peaceful, birds chirping, chickens clucking, surrounded by tall trees. It’s a great location because there is paradise falls, looking glass and other falls/hikes super driving distance. The creek was peaceful. Also very clean brand new bathrooms, heater and warm water shower right on site! It was a perfect private spot great for couples. The host was very kind, checked in on us and made sure we were good. My advice is to bring a lot of firewood and keep it safe 🪵 because it rained once and made every wet. The string lights were super cute and not too bright. Also the drive there is beautiful. There’s a small marketplace/gas station super close by down the road too. Thank you so much Georgianna!

This is our 2nd visit to Winding Stair. We enjoyed the Group Site, Pavilion and Bathhouse so much, we brought some new friends! Great location close to hiking trails and Franklin. Also visited Winding Stair’s Nursery in Franklin. One of the best, if not the best, campground we have visited.

I almost want to be selfish and keep my positive thoughts to myself so Jennifer always has space for me, but alas that would be rude. I immediately had a positive vibe the minute I drove in. This place is so chill and Jennifer, along with her family, make you feel at home. Despite it being a working farm, the place is clean, the cabins are perfectly appointed. The sites are spread out enough, you can either interact with fellow campers, or stay to yourself. Whatever your vibe, your need, you can make your experience unique. There are tons of local things to do, including, but not limited to the beach. Jennifer has maps of local attractions, shops, restaurants, etc and she is well versed if you need suggestions. I highly recommend and I hope whoever winds up here finds the same level of relaxation and joy I found!

A clean, private fun play area for you and your pets. Myself and two dogs had a great time. Nice trail to the creek. A lot of deer around and the best thing very quite with poor cell service. No distractions from the sounds of nature. Tim

Check the local Restaurants and the local shops as well. Throughout the year we are surrounded by many different festivals as well. You can listen to the crickets and the birds chirping, and watch the squirrel as they jump and run from tree to tree.we are close to the beaches and are in close proximity of the national Forrest as well. And there are quite a few golf courses near to us as well. We are a work in progress and would be considered primitive Campground. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom.We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

The views are hypnotic and look down and out over the continental divide. Good morning sun and sunsets can be seen in the same spot. Your car is parked within feet of your deck so Car Campers and experienced campers can enjoy. Designed with campers and dogs in mind. The deck is large (384 square feet) with a tin roof. Some roofs are full size, some 2/3rds and some 1/3rd, depending on what one wants for tent size or sun exposure. (See pictures of each site/deck) Each deck has sun and rain curtains for helping keep comfortable in normal weather. Dogs enjoy a two gate system so quests and dogs can be leash free and away from the road. All dog owners know to pick up after their pets. The human Private Porta John is cleaned weekly. Lights and electrical is 110V (3 prongs) for YOUR coffee pots, electric grills, mattress inflators, crockpots, electric blankets fans, etc. I do not provide any electrical appliances, other than counter area lighting and low level string lights so one can see the night sky. Many of my campers will "Pay it Forward" and leave coffee pots, hot plates, fans and such, so count yourself lucky to find a deck with them. I provide chairs, 5 gallons of fresh water in containers, fickle solar shower and pop up changing room along with an assortment of camping supplies from dog bowls to antimicrobial wipes. I provide various size garbage bags to manage your garbage. Your parking area is next to the deck. Black Mountain’s tasty restaurants are 4 miles away and All Trails is a great app for finding trails suited for your interest. Be respectful to the place and please be friendly to the people you meet. Learn more about this land: Private Glamping Decks with a view that pictures do not do justice. Private decks on a dead-end gravel road mean hopefully the sounds will only be of nature. The conveniences of electricity, porta john, water, chairs, table, roof, cleaning supplies, rain curtains, and astounding views have my Glampers coming back often. North Carolina has several poisonous snakes and although we don't see them often, we are playing in their playground-the great outdoors. There are mosquitoes, ticks, fire ants (esp. after a good rain) and critters outdoors. Always bring bug spray even if you think you may not need it! To avoid unwanted interaction, keep tents/screens on cabins zipped or closed when not in use. Make sure food is "buttoned up" for the night and be aware of any crumbs or scraps dropped on the ground or in cabins. This will invite unwanted guests of all types. Be aware and observant where you walk and use a flashlight or headlamp at night. We will not be responsible for injury, bites, stings, etc... Be smart and camp safe! There are MANY things to do in our area that are low cost to free, which is an added plus for any families coming to visit! Just ask me and I'll give you suggestions depending on your budget. Plenty of stuff for grown-ups too! Walmart Express is less than three miles away and Walmart Supercenter is less than five miles away. Smithfields BBQ, Chinese and Bojangles are close by. There are two wonderful restaurants nearby El Mexicano and Riverside a Pizza/subs place that will deliver camp side too! Be sure to mention what site number you are camped! If you love the ocean, the beach is just a short distance away. Emerald Isle is ten miles away, Ft. Macon is twelve miles away. These both have public beaches and Ft. Macon offers hot showers if you don't opt for our cold one! Hikers will love the nearby trails and abundant hiking options from poccosin (bogs) swamps to the Mountain to Sea Trail. Our property is perfect for outdoor adventure and exploration. If you prefer a more relaxing stay, you can stay on our property and enjoy a refreshing swim in our pond or cozy up by a campfire. Bring your s'mores gear to belly up to a picnic table. Birdwatching is a popular activity here as we are a family-run bird farm with a variety of feathered friends including ducks, chickens, guineas, geese, turkey and even an emu or two! We have recently added (this Spring 2024) baby goats and also have cows. Napoleon and Rosie are Dwarf pygmies and Brielle is a New Zealand Kiko. There are buckets available to bring water to your site. Any vehicle over 6' will have to enter/exit on West (left) side of the pond due to low clearance. Cold water shower available. (Let me define...high tech redneck style; a hose with multi option spigot.) Our property is also conveniently located near the historic towns of Beaufort and New Bern, perfect for a day trip. There are nearby stores and farmers markets where you can get fresh veggies, and we are always willing to suggest places to go. You can also visit Fort Macon, Hammocks Beach, Carteret County Speedway, the NC Aquarium, local farms, live music at The Gardens and more. Go see a local mud bog on Saturday nights or check out the local Bogue Sound distillery and fabulous seafood restaurants, which is just a short drive away. Bring your boat because we have plenty of space to park and can direct you to whichever type of waterway you want to be on. Take a Hike on a Wild side! Camping

This property is 180 acres of woods and mountains with streams and ponds. Beautiful settings. If you like hiking in the mountains this will definitely hit the spot. YO can fish in the ponds it has blue gills and catfish. I also added grass carp there as part of weed management. This used to be an abandoned farm which I want to bring back to life. The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents and 4 Pioneer wagons. All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you). Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cook and serene. Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest. Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties. We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Nice swimming beach access on Lake Hickory 13 miles ( 20 Minutes) from here: Lake Hickory Wittenburg access area (Wittenburg Access Area, 175 Wildlife Access Rd, Hickory, NC 28601) Asheville is 1:25 hrs to the West, Charlotte is 1:25 hr to the East. There are couple of Ski resorts 45 minutes to an hr away.

Tent sites are also spaced apart with your privacy in mind. Ashe County is offers something for everyone. Beautiful hiking trails are as close or as far as you want to drive to get there. Downtown offers an experience in walking back in time with a small town feel that is unmatched. Delicious eating experiences are available from country cooking to fine dining. Camp Karuga is also perfectly situated for traveling to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk without the exhaustion of a long drive. There is so many wonderful experiences around Camp Karuga that it will be hard to choose from. At Camp Karuga, you can be as active as you want, or just kick back and enjoy the view while your ears relax to the sound of our beautiful creek.
